Midlake We Gathered In Spring

listen<---:yay:

I'm tired of being here
On this hill
No-one lives to be three hundered years
Like the way it used to be

I think they were giants
I think they were giants

On this hill, nothing grows except greed
You will stay to finish your work
As long as need be
As long as need be

On a clear day
I can see my old house
and my wife in the front yard
Talking with the friends

We gathered in spring
We gathered in spring
We gathered in spring
We gatehred in spring

I'm tired of being here
On this hill
Where I'm sure to find my last meal
No-one lives to be three hundred years

On a clear day
I can see my old house
and my wife in the front yard
Talking with the friends

We gathered in spring
We gathered in spring
We gathered in spring
We gatehred in spring

the kind of song that makes you melancholy

Goo Goo Dolls- Name

And even though the moment passed me by I still cant turn away
I saw the dreams you never thought you'd lose tossed along the way
Letters that you never meant to send lost or thrown away

And now were grown up orphans that never knew their names
Dont belong to no one thats a shame
You could hide beside me maybe for a while
And I wont tell no one your name
I wont tell em your name

Scars are souvenirs you never lose , the past is never far
Did you lose yourself somewhere out there , did you get to be a star
Dont it make you sad to know that life is more that who we are

You grew up way too fast and now theres nothing to believe
And reruns all become our history
A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio
And I wont tell no one your name
I wont tell em your name

I think about you all the time
But I dont need the same its lonely where you are come back down,
And I wont tell em your name

the part in bold struck me the first time i heard it. just a great song

N*E*R*D - Provider

Woke up I had the same clothes on I had on last night
(Damn)
I must have passed out
And cash is just like the clothes I worn yesterday
We are broke
(Damn)
I gotta get my ass out
I went to see what my friend was talking about
(Drugs)
He told me cocaine would get you clout
My momma said he's trouble and school's my route
But I went to high school and got kicked out
So I'm driving this truck down the 95
I pray to God I make it home alive
I don't get pulled over by the Man
I just want to make it home to hold your hand

Goodbye beloved one
Do you know what I am
If you don't see my face no more
I'm a provider, girl, gotta face the streets tonight

Goodbye beloved one
Do you know what I am
You don't see my face no more
I'm a rider, girl, gotta face the streets tonight

You say you don't want me to go but I have to
Please don't weep
(I love you)
I refuse to be a bum
Especially coming where I'm from
I'm a provider, girl
And I love you
So it's just like I said before
Heading down 95
Dodging Johnny Law
I don't need a ticket, though I never got one
If he pulls me over he can feel my shotgun
I think about life pull down my hat
It's just like this road I don't know where I'm at
I don't want to be another cocaine story
Will I find my sanity where I find my glory
Come on

Goodbye beloved one
Do you know what I am
If you don't see my face no more
I'm a provider, girl, gotta face the streets tonight

Goodbye beloved one
Do you know what I am
You don't see my face no more
I'm a rider, girl, gotta face the streets tonight

Someday, Someday, this will be over
We'll raise a family
I'll get a job and I'll be a voter
And if I die
It will change you
(Change you)
I watch over a family
But only as an angel

So don't tell me you don't know what you see
When you're looking at a mother****er just like me
I'm a provider girl
I said don't tell me you don't know what you see
When you're looking at a mother****er just like me
I'm a rider girl

Goodbye beloved one
Do you know what I am
If you don't see my face no more
I'm a provider, girl, gotta face the streets tonight

Goodbye beloved one
Do you know what I am
You don't see my face no more
I'm a rider, girl, gotta face the streets tonight...

Keep Your Head Up- Tupac

Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
I say the darker the flesh then the deeper the roots
I give a holler to my sisters on welfare
Tupac cares, and don't nobody else care
And uhh, I know they like to beat ya down a lot
When you come around the block brothas clown a lot
But please don't cry, dry your eyes, never let up
Forgive but don't forget, girl keep your head up
And when he tells you you ain't nuttin don't believe him
And if he can't learn to love you you should leave him
Cause sista you don't need him
And I ain't tryin to gas ya up, I just call em how I see em
You know it makes me unhappy (what's that)
When brothas make babies, and leave a young mother to be a pappy
And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it's time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don't we'll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one
So will the real men get up
I know you're fed up ladies, but keep your head up

Chorus

Keep ya head up, oooo child things are gonna get easier
ooooo child things are gonna get brighter (2x)

Aiyyo, I remember Marvin Gaye, used to sing ta me
He had me feelin like black was tha thing to be
And suddenly tha ghetto didn't seem so tough
And though we had it rough, we always had enough
I huffed and puffed about my curfew and broke the rules
Ran with the local crew, and had a smoke or two
And I realize momma really paid the price
She nearly gave her life, to raise me right
And all I had ta give her was my pipe dream
Of how I'd rock the mic, and make it to tha bright screen
I'm tryin to make a dollar out of fifteen cents
It's hard to be legit and still pay tha rent
And in the end it seems I'm headin for tha pen
I try and find my friends, but they're blowin in the wind
Last night my buddy lost his whole family
It's gonna take the man in me to conquer this insanity
It seems tha rain'll never let up
I try to keep my head up, and still keep from gettin wet up
You know it's funny when it rains it pours
They got money for wars, but can't feed the poor
Say there ain't no hope for the youth and the truth is
it ain't no hope for tha future
And then they wonder why we crazy
I blame my mother, for turning my brother into a crack baby
We ain't meant to survive, cause it's a setup
And even though you're fed up
Huh, ya got to keep your head up

Chorus

And uhh
To all the ladies havin babies on they own
I know it's kinda rough and you're feelin all alone
Daddy's long gone and he left you by ya lonesome
Thank the Lord for my kids, even if nobody else want em
Cause I think we can make it, in fact, I'm sure
And if you fall, stand tall and comeback for more
Cause ain't nuttin worse than when your son
wants to kno why his daddy don't love him no mo'
You can't complain you was dealt this
hell of a hand without a man, feelin helpless
Because there's too many things for you to deal with
Dying inside, but outside you're looking fearless
While tears, is rollin down your cheeks
Ya steady hopin things don't all down this week
Cause if it did, you couldn't take it, and don't blame me
I was given this world I didn't make it
And now my son's getten older and older and cold
From havin the world on his shoulders
While the rich kids is drivin Benz
I'm still tryin to hold on to my survivin friends
And it's crazy, it seems it'll never let up, but
please... you got to keep your head up

The Roots - Concerto of the Desperado

Chorus:

The concerto, of the desperado
R-double-O-T-S check the flow
If you know like I know then you know the motto
That's all the fraud s*** got to go/fake s*** gots to go

Verse One:

In the glow of the moon, over the melancholy metro
My poetry is set like a U.F.O.
The maestro, the lyricist concerto
My physical play the role of a vessel
The level of my lyrics law manifesto
My thoughts wrestle and attack with the killer instincts
of a gorilla stronger than Samson
Without vanilla my soliloquoy profess my ability to just
stimulate you like the best sensimilla
The halflife the Illadel-L-P-O-phila proceed
hither is my death flower blow your tower to smithe-
-reens to fiends catch another rhyme gripper
Deeper than the meditations of a hidden worshiper
Unorthodox, hip-hop, minister
Then a Serengeti cheetah my thoughts with the
you lose your balance when the sound hits ya
So check for the, fifth militia
A poet's under pressure stressing that you get the picture
Even if it means you gotta hang over the banister
I pull a microphone on any pistol brandisher
And take advantage of ya because you amateur
Styles gunning down your sound man and manager
What?? This how we do it in the year for nine-six
With this delivering attack on pointless rap s***
Breakin MC's down to fractions, tell your squadron
It's time to go to war we spar reaction

Chorus 2X

Verse Two:

The implorer, the universe explorer
Treat MC's like the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah
Leavin these n****s open like a box of Pandora
With styles that's newer than the world order
Approximately three quarters of y'all are water
I straight deport ya
Then orchestrate your torture with roots of culture
The pill brimmage to the line of scrimmage up against your image
Where life is a heist, and the strong get a percentage
It's ill as a war and within it I'm the Lieutenant
that surrounds you like a peninsula to snatch the pennant
You fold like Japan's futons and fans
While I design a plan to make a rapper step like a pedestrian
I crush a mountain into grands of sand
Your pain stains the cannon of the mic inserted into the stand
The desperado, that refuse to follow
The lip afficianado, break you up into parts like a bottle
I deep like the dark of the night
N****s is sweet and sound silly when they talk on the mic
They use the simple back and forth the same
old rhythm that's plain
I'd rather UltraMagnetize your brain
It's the hip-hop purist, that leave you lost like a tourist
inside the chorus, n****s is bringin nothin for us
As we breakin em down to fractions, tell your squadron
It's time to go to war we spar reaction

Chorus 2X

Blues Traveler- Hook

It doesn't matter what I say
So long as I sing with inflection
That makes you feel that I'll convey
Some inner truth of vast reflection
But I've said nothing so far
And I can keep it up for as long as it takes
And it doesn't matter who you are
If I'm doing my job then it's your resolve that breaks

Because the hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely

There is something amiss
I am being insincere
In fact I don't mean any of this
Still my confession draws you near
To confuse the issue I refer
To familiar heroes from long ago
No matter how much Peter loved her
What made the Pan refuse to grow

Was that the hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely

Suck it in suck it in suck it in
If you're Rin Tin Tin or Anne Boleyn
Make a desperate move or else you'll win
And then begin
To see
What you're doing to me this MTV is not for free
It's so PC it's killing me
So desperately I sing to thee
Of love
Sure but also rage and hate and pain and fear of self
And I can't keep these feelings on the shelf
I've tried well no in fact I lied
Could be financial suicide but I've got too much pride inside
To hide or slide
I'll do as I'll decide and let it ride until I've died
And only then shall I abide this tide
Of catchy little tunes
Of hip three minute ditties
I wanna bust all your balloons
I wanna burn all of your cities
To the ground I've found
I will not mess around
Unless I play then hey
I will go on all day hear what I say
I have a prayer to pray
That's really all this was
And when I'm feeling stuck and need a buck
I don't rely on luck because....

The hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook....
On that you can rely

Jamiroquai - Corner of the Earth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IS_q_DXIhVk

Little darlin' don't you see the sun is shining
Just for you, only today
If you hurry you can get a ray on you, come with me, just to play
Like every humming bird and bumblebee
Every sunflower, cloud and every tree
I feel so much a part of this
Nature's got me high and it's beautiful
I'm with this deep eternal universe
From death until rebirth

This corner of the earth is like me in many ways
I can sit for hours here and watch the emerald feathers play
On the face of it I'm blessed
When the sunlight comes for free
I know this corner of the earth it smiles at me

So inspired that there's nothing left to do or say
Think I'll dream, 'til the stars shine
The wind it whispers and the clouds don't seem to care
And I know inside, that it's all mine
It's the chorus of the breakin' dawn
The mist that comes before the sun is born
To a hazy afternoon in May
Nature's got me high and it's so beautiful
I'm with this deep eternal universe
From death until rebirth

You know that this corner of the earth is like me in many ways
I can sit for hours here and watch the emerald feathers play
On the face of it I'm blessed
When the sunlight comes for free
I know this corner of the earth it smiles at me (x4)

This corner of the earth, is like me in many ways
I can sit for hours here and watch the emerald feathers play
On the face of it I'm blessed
When the sunlight comes for free
I know this corner of the earth it smiles at me...

Gym Class Heroes - Beautiful Day (before being emo'ed by FBR)

Yo, My morning showers like a rebirth; reflections of the womb
Crazy sentimental floatin' in lukewarm placental
Now I chop a burden on the sink trying not to think about what
Lies before me but the sun just reassured me that
Everything's gonna be alright, the last thing on my mind is tonight
Its like ascension and getting Zestfully clean not to mention
Scrub my ass and armpits for a bit and then I split over to the mirror
Wipe the dew to make my vision clearer
Then I moisturize my face with some Aloe Vera
This is that type of day cause I can feel it that
You ain't letting bad vibes invade your spirit
Anyway it's time to get the breath right
So I grab the Crest and toothbrush, circular motions to the left, right
Just enough to see the teeth sparkle a bit
I fill my grill with Listerine and then it's gargle, gargle, spit
And now that's good hygiene, you know what I mean?
And my mouth's the definition of so fresh and so clean (clean)
I feel it's only right, since my words all I got
And nobody wants to listen when your breath is hot
But that's a story in itself so I head to my bedroom
Throw on some drawers and pick out a costume
I think i'll rock these blue jeans and this tee shirt
And whats a little Polo Sport gonna hurt?
C'mon

This is that day cause I can feel it
You know the type of day you ain't lettin' bad vibes invade your spirit
As the birds chirp your favorite tune
It's like I'm right back in my momma's womb
Cause everything is so serine
And the temperature is just right
Not a worry in sight
And plus the sun is shining bright, it's a beautiful day
It's a beautiful day

Shall I continue where I left off?
I'm feelin' kinda lovely but my
Tummy is growlin' so I'm feeling kinda hungry
So I hit the kitchen and I'm wishin' there's some food in sight
What do ya know? I got that Cinnamon Life
And now I'm real happy, fill my salad bowl up with cereal
To my surprise it's Jackson Five up on the stereo
I turn it up my words can't describe my reaction to
Wakin' up and listening to prepubescent Michael Jackson
Open up the Frigidair what do we have here?
Seems like just enough milk to fill my morning craving
Peep out the window just to see if Izzy is misbehaving
He's staring at me with a grin like 'Yo, let me in man!'
So I begin to fill his dish with Kibbles N' Bits
Let him in so he can eat, and I'm eating my s***
So now we both full and well fed
Happier than that fat rat Templeton from Charlotte's Web
And now its time to get our walk on
Izzy can get his bark on
It's a beautiful day maybe we'll get our state park on
I know the lake is at its finest (you better take advantage)
I'll grab my backpack, this leash, and maybe make a sandwich
I better grab my ghetto blaster and a few tapes,
A thurmos full of water and a bag of fresh grapes
Some more tapes cause you know that music comes first
And what's a little Jackson Five gonna hurt?
C'mon

This is that day cause I can feel it
You know the type of day you ain't lettin' bad vibes invade your spirit
As the birds chirp your favorite tune
It's like I'm right back in my momma's womb
Cause everything is so serine
And the temperature is just right
Not a worry in sight
And plus the sun is shining bright, it's a beautiful day
It's a beautiful day

This is that day cause I can feel it
You know the type of day you ain't lettin' bad vibes invade your spirit
As the birds chirp your favorite tune
It's like I'm right back in my momma's womb
Cause everything is so serine
And the temperature is just right
Not a worry in sight
And plus the sun is shining bright, it's a beautiful day
It's a beautiful day

This Woman's Work

Pray to God you can cope
I stand outside
This woman's work
This woman's world
Oooh, it's hard on the man
Now his part is over
Now starts the craft of the father

I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left
I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left

I should be crying but I just can't let it show
I should be hoping but I can't stop thinking
All the things I should've said that I never said
All the things we should of done that we never did
All the things I should've given but I didn't

Oh darling make it go
Make it go away
Give me them back to me
Give that little kiss
Give me your hand

I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a little strength left
I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a little strength left

I should be crying but I just can't let it show
I should be hoping but I can't stop thinking
Of all the things we should've said that were never said
All the things we should've done that we never did
All the things that you needed from me
All the things that that you wanted from me
All the things I should of given but I didn't
Oh darling make it go away
Just make it go away now.

Ben Folds Five Underground

reminds me of a good portion of the people I knew in college
I was never cool in school
I'm sure you don't remember me
And now it's been 10 years
I'm still wondering who to be
But I'd love to mix in circles, cliques, and social coteries - that's me
Hand me my nose ring (Can we be happy?)
Show me the mosh pit (Can we be happy?)
We can be happy underground

Who's got the looks
Who's got the brains
Who's got everything
I got this pain in my heart, that's all
Hey you with the long and lonely face
There's got to be something else
Let me tell ya something else
There was a girl who passed me by
She gave a smile but I was shy
I looked down, so down
Don't look there no no, go go underground
But now there's a place to go
It's the morning now, it's the evening
It's everything
I click my heels and I'm there

Underground, underground
Everything's happy underground
(Underground) You been kicked around
(Underground) Did life bring you down here
Everything's heavy underground

We'll be decked in all black
Slamming the pit fantastic
Officer Friendly's little boy's got a mohawk
And he knows just where we're coming from
It's industrial, work it underground
Get down, get down, get down

Underground, underground
Everything's happy underground
(Underground) You been kicked around
(Underground) Did life bring you down here
Everything's heavy underground

We can be happy, we can be happy, we can be happy
Underground

We can, we can, we can be

Everything's Heavy
(Underground) You been kicked around
(Underground) Did life bring you down here
Everything's heavy underground

We can, we can, we can be
(Everything's happy underground)

I actually heard the Maxwell version before I ever heard the Kate Bush version. And after hearing the original a while back, I actually like the Maxwell version better. *shrugs*

I heard his version and I was like "WTF?"

plus the comments on the video reminded me of that kevin bacon movie where they have that song.

all the white boys in the stay-pressed slacks,
they're home for the summer from college.
stayin' out late, getting rowdy at the bar
and lookin' for trouble uptown.
they come up my block, about 5 or 6 of them.
smashing their bottles in the gutter. yelling all kinds of obscenities,

supper time in the hole.

Really, it may just be that the first time I heard Kate's original, it was attached to this really god awful gothic seahorse video I saw at a short film slam.

Mew Why Are You Looking Grave?

Why are you looking grave?
Are you thinking of something to say?
Why are you sitting there?
Are you hoping that someone will stare?

Your mouth is hiding
You've got smiling eyes

Why are you looking grave?
Are you thinking of something to say?
Be I thinking of you?

Your mouth is hiding
You've got smiling eyes
Softly dividing
What they see in your face
From what you feel like inside

Who are all those who greet me?
Does it matter if I know?

Your mouth is hiding
You've got joyless eyes
Softly contriving
All the terrible things
That shook up our hearts enough

Bonnie Raitt- I Can't Make You Love Me

Turn down the lights;
Turn down the bed.
Turn down these voices
Inside my head.

Lay down with me;
Tell me no lies.
Just hold me close;
Don't patronize.

Don't patronize me.

[Chorus:]
'Cuz I can't make you love me
If you don't.
You can't make your heart feel
Something it won't.
Here in the dark
In these final hours,
I will lay down my heart
And I'll feel the power;
But you won't.
No, you won't.
'Cuz I can't make you love me
If you don't.

I'll close my eyes,
Then I won't see
The love you don't feel
When you're holding me.

Morning will come,
And I'll do what's right;
Just give me till then
To give up this fight.

And I will give up this fight.

[Chorus]

you can't tell me this isn't a beautiful song and it's one that just about everyone's heard before.

gladys knight paying tribute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5paZe1l62ns

but the original Bonnie Raitt version is my fave of all versions
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlrXIvMmG3s

every girl needs to know this song

this one just came out on the radio, but i've loved it from the first time i heard it on the cd. i pre-ordered this cd and got it the day before my nephew died. this cd got me through some hard times, and some of the lyrics in this song really struck a chord with me.

Wasted- Carrie Underwood

Standing at the back door
She tried to make it fast
One tear hit the hard wood
It fell like broken glass
She said sometimes love slips away
And you just can't get it back
Let's face it

For one split second
She almost turned around
But that would be like pouring rain drops
Back into a cloud
So she took another step and said
I see the way out and I'm gonna' take it

I don't wanna' spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I've let all these years go by
Wasted

Another glass of whisky but it still don't kill the pain
So he stumbles to the sink and pours it down the drain
He says it's time to be a man and stop living for yesterday
Gotta face it.

Cause' I don't wanna' spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I've let all these years go by
Wasted

Oh I don't wanna' keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain't spending no more time
Wasted

She kept drivin' along
Till the moon and the sun were floating side-by-side
He looked in the mirror and his eyes were clear
For the first time in a while

Hey, yeah,
Oh, I don't wanna' spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I've let all these years go by
Wasted

Oh I don't wanna' keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain't spending no more time
Wasted

Oh, I don't wanna' spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I've let all these years go by
Wasted

Yeah, yeah
Oh I don't wanna' keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain't spending no more time
Wasted

the video just came out, and tonight was the first time i've seen it.
