I disagree. Bashing the old when something new comes along is kind of a standard. Especially around here.

But if there's one thing, the poorly made ASM series has definitely caused more people to praise and come to enjoy Raimi's films. Even SM3 is getting this ovation of adoration.

I wasn`t thinking specifically about Spidey movies. I`m talking about franchises that people really loved back in the day that were tackled again (usually by the same creative team) and audiences were lukewarm to it: Star Wars Original Trilogy vs The Prequels; Indy 1-3 vs Indy 4, Aliens vs Prometheus, Terminator 1 & 2 vs Terminator Salvation; and the other superhero franchises: X-Men 1 and 2 vs more recent X-Men movies, Batman 1989 vs Batman Begins, etc.

I think people grow to expect more and more out of these genres, and the standards of the past no longer hold, while the movies that came back then are still appreciated.

But I`m fine with agreeing on disagreeing.

Well, I'm glad that 'kids throwing toys at each other' in the forum garbage didn't make you decide to not join. You're a good addition to these boards.

There always seems to be this continuing trend of praise for something new whilst bashing whatever was the previous incarnation whenever a reboot is made. Or just changes in general. But this new reboot and the deal between Marvel and Sony seems to have most people on the same page--it's something most fans have been asking or hoping would happen. Whereas when the ASM reboot was announced, there was a definite split in the fan base.

I too hope we'll be satisfied with the end result. I'm sure Marvel is aware of the situation and the amount of pressure on them to deliver has to be staggering.

Thanks UWH, and I'm glad I joined :)

You're right. There generally always is favorability for a newer product, but I think the criticisms for the older product this time around are justified. I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but the anticipation for Spidey's debut in the MCU has even increased my excitement for AoU. I was looking forward to it regardless, but knowing that Spidey will enter the same world has taken my excitement to a whole new level.

Even though I'm almost positive we'll all be on the same page after Spidey's debut, I'm sure we'll still find something to bicker about :D

Fair enough :yay:

Oh you're definitely not alone and I'm betting Marvel was counting on this very notion. The boost in their ticket sales, merchandising, is gonna be huge now that Spidey is coming home. I'd be willing to bet that many of their Spidey-less productions will see an increase even without his appearances just because of his eventual inclusion.

And...you're on a board with fellow nerds. We'll always have something to nitpick over :cwink:

Amen (in my Hozier voice) to that, my friend.

Put it this way, I just bought tickets to an early viewing of AoU. It's not that early, but it's in one of those new theaters in my area with dining and what not, so I'm excited. This is the first time in my life that I've ever gotten tickets for a movie before it came out; not to mention, with more than a month remaining until its release.

I'm hoping for a miracle post credits scene that we can nitpick over :yay:

This lounge could use the extra flavor.

Hey guys, what's a good book to read? Not a novel.
If you are interested in learning HTML, I suggest reading Head's First: HTMLand XML.
It's a fun book, and does a nice job at explaining the HTML language step by step, the authors were nice enough to state in the appendix top 10 topics they did not cover.

This really depends on what you like. I have no recommendations on tech-savvy books, since I`m not into that kind of thing, but I could suggest some other non-fictional books.

Share a book about a subject you like. :)

Well, I would suggest Niall Ferguson`s Civilization, which is a good analysis of what makes one civilization prosper while others don`t. It`s a great read, as Ferguson`s prose is fast and he is deliberately sarcastic at some times.

If History is not your thing, I would suggest David Foster Wallace`s A Supposedly Fun Thing I`ll Never Do Again, which comprises six comedic essays Wallace wrote in the early nineties about random subjects. They are all very witty and humorous, and Wallace comes off as hilariously grumpy in most of them.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I read history books sometimes.

I remember those unmarried, child-less days when I could buy stuff like that in advance, lol :woot: :yay:  :csad:

I'd love a Spidey-esque post credits scene but I won't hold my breath on it.

How's everybody been lately? Haven't been hanging around the Spidey boards much recently.

Doing fine, despite almost tearing each other apart from the lack of news. What have you been up to?

We're spectacular

Don`t put "Spectacular" in italic, Chip! I immediately think of TSSM`s theme song, and it gets stuck in my head for the next week or so.

Amazing! Well, amazingly easily sidetracked. It's mostly just been an endless cycle arguing about whether or not Latino Review has any credibility and why Venom is either Sidey's worst enemy or his best.

So pretty much the same as always.:woot:
