...who would you say is Spider-Man's best ally?

In other words; not characters who got their start in a Spider-Man comic (Punisher, Black Cat, Cloak & Dagger) but characters who are independent of that, and members of the general Marvel Universe.

I think he's teamed up more with these five heroes more than any others, so therein lies my question.

What, no NFL Superpro??

I have to say DD. My intial instinct was to go with Johnny, but their relatioship is a bit up and down. They're good friends, but I don't think they are a good influence on each and other.

I really hate the way that Spidey/DD relationship has been played down over the last few years. They're a really good fit, and have had some special moments in the past.

It's cooll how they share some rogues too.

Hmmm, I would say it is between three.

Torch- because I think they are pretty close and and their combined range of very different abilities means they can effectively tackle a numerous array of adversaries.

DareDevil- because they compliment each other well,- both are highly proficient at bounding about rooftops and detective work.

Dr Strange- because he aids Spider-Man in areas that pretty much no one else could help him with including Mr Fantastic. As such, in particular times of peril Dr Strange's participation can can either make or brake it. :spidey:

Daredevil is Spider-Man's best ally IMO. Human Torch and Spidey make a good team, but the Human Torch and Spidey get in alot of arguments. Daredevil and Spidey don't get in arguments and they wor kreally well as a team. Dr. Strange does as well.

Seriously now... Daredevil. Torch was his best ally when they were both teenagers, but they've both moved past their rivalry and outside of Slott's Spidey/Torch mini, nothing much has happened between them in recent years. Their relationship hasn't evolved beyond Torch now knowing his ID. With Daredevil there's friendship, but it's mixed with uneasiness and Spidey's idea of what justice is, verses DD's commitment to the law.

On a side-note, when I was younger I always thought the coolest super-team ever would consist of Spider-Man, Scarlet Spider, Human Torch and Daredevil. :-D

The question that was posed was-

'...who would you say is Spider-Man's best ally?'

My response was not just taking into consideration personal relationships, but also crucially- the powers and abilities that each ally offers Spider-Man.

I agree. Torch is more of a "pal", but Daredevil and Spider-Man have gone through some serious emotional grinders together (Death Of Jean DeWolffe, Gang War)....Spidey was even there for DD when Karen Page was murdered and later again when DD's secret identity was exposed and Mr.Hyde attacked him...

EXACTLY. These 2 have been there for each and other, and their powers/personalities work really well together.

You know, as much as I disliked Spidey bing on the initial NA roster, if DD was on the team as Ronin, would've helped me swallow it a lot easier.

It would've made much more sense to me if they made that leap together, there could've been some really interesing conversations with their history.

At least NA post-Civil War has been rocking though

Daredevil definatley. I loved their first meeting in ASM #16, the First Carrion arc was great too, Spidey was blinded by the Masked Marauder and DD helped Spidey master his power's during that period.

Yea as others have said

Best Ally- Dardevil
Buddy- Human Torch

Yeah. remember the first arc of New Avengers when Peter and Matt were fighting side by side against all the inmates?

I was estatic when i saw that!

That was SO cool.

Man, you're making me really pine for a new DD/Spidey team up.

Bendis/Malev should've gotten Pete to make an appearance at the end of their run on DD, during the 3 issue, (!) chase scene. Pete could've been in the story quite easily, and it would've made it even more badass

I voted Daredevil. But I also really liked the relationship Peter had with Captain America.

Spidey was in ONE of the final storylines...that last big fight against the Japanese gang...Yakuza i think they're called?

DD, Spidey, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Maleev drew a big splash page with the four of them, and i nearly passed out the first time i saw it, lol. :woot:

Of the poll, I'd say easily Human Torch they have friction, but it is a playful competition. Peter and Johnny like each other. Until recently Spidey and DD butted heads too much and he has always been written as too much idol worship for Cap...and Iron Man...we all know how that one goes.

Overall, Black Cat easily, though.

I'm gonna have to go with Johnny Storm. DD is a good ally, but they have come to blows more often than Spidey and Torch have...and besides, after reading (and constantly re-reading) Spidey/ Human Torch: I'm With Stupid, I'd have to say that, on a personal level, there's alot more friendship there between Peter and Johnny than there is between Peter and Matt.

I know it said "Ally", not "friend", but a colleague is less likely to drop what he is doing to come to your aide than a friend is.

Johnny Storm without a doubt, put them together and you are guran-dam-teed comedy gold. Spider-Man and The human torch is oneof my fav series ever

The Spidey/Torch issues from the early days of Amazing are classic. I love the rivalry between the two. Just go read ASM 8.
