Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of GR the comic, and I'm eagerly awaiting the movie as well. However, do you guys think overhyping the movie will ruin the experience?

Your thoughts appreciated.

nope....i will certainly enjoy ANY hype that this film will get...whether its bargain basement hype or the full on deluxe treatment hype.
GR has never been given any kind of major push by Marvel...the closest was in the early 90s when the book was a minor hit. they tried again w/ 2 cartoon guest appearances and a toy line...all of which were quickly forgotten.

the overhyping of the film will not ruin the film for me...if its bad its bad. no amount of overhyping can change that...however it will be at the very least fun to see the character get the same kind of hype that other famous comic book characters have enjoyed.

Let's not forget we are on Superhero'Hype'

Hype away. Ghost Rider is not the most known marvel character and I think the movie will need as much hype as possible to get the average movie goer to go and watch it. If the hype gets enough people just to buy a ticket then we are sure to get a sequel, it doesn't matter if they like it or not lol.

That's the thinkin' we need screen! I agree that we need as much talk and promotion as possible to get this movie accepted. That is, until it's actually seen. That's when I think people will be forced to accept it for the force it's going to be.

Nobody (probably) hypes this movie more than me and I really see big things happening with it.

I was just going to post the same thing lol. This movie needs the promotion and hype. GR is going to get people to buy tickets on its own. Im not a GR fan (dont hate em either) but IMO the trailer doesnt look too good. Its needs the extra push.

Hyping it for others sounds like a good idea, but for me as a fan, I think it can ruin the experience, especially if the movie doesnt meet the inflated hype.

IMHO, Im gonna try to not get lost in the hype.

don't avoid the hype, the hype is the greatest part of the film making experience for us fans as many of us have been fans for these stories/characters for years and we have a first hand knowledge of whats being made which makes it that much more special for us, this is why the boards die down after the movie is released.

EMBRACE THE HYPE, BE THE HYPE!!

I don't think overhyping GR is bad it can be actually good for the movie but we have to wait and see......what happens:ghost:

LoL. Funny.

I do agree though. We are embassadors for this film and by us fans hyping or overhyping more people will go see this flick. I know I've personally turned many of my friends onto the character... due to my endless talk of him.

Of course, they are going to punch me soon to shut me the hell up. :)

most likely. seems when people read every spoiler they can get their hands on and all that other stuff they aren't able to see the finished movie and purely enjoy it. its like not being a virgin, as apposed to seeing it all virginal. k wait that doesnt sound right

Hmmm overhyping is that me that does that? lol Yes overhyping I see is all good or you can say Overhyping = geeked to the max for this movie  :ghost:

Yeah that made sense to me. It was like X3. I wanted to be blown away (and I was) and only because I believe I didnt watch all those damn clips they had prior to the release. I mean they had pretty much every single fight in there. There was a Mystique, Wolverine, Rogue, Juggernaut, Kitty, even the one when Magneto ripped the bridge off its foundation. These scenes are best left in the theatre.

One of my friends who is crazy about Xmen, saw all those clips and when he saw the movie, he was disgusted.

I think its safe to say that if you overhype a movie for others->thats fine, but if you overhype it for yourself, you might come out extremely frustrated and/or dissapointed.

I'm not seeing how this is being overhyped at all. We've been given some decent scraps of info and some video clips, but I think that this is much less hyped than other superhero films.

What we're doing, more than anything, is speculating. We've gotten less info than, say, S-M3 and I think that our discussion is better for it. Nobody's pissed about Wes Bentley being "miscast" or Peter Fonda being "too old."

Ultimately, because this is our first run, we're happy just to see hwo it will all pan out.

I refused to watch all those clips and I was still extreamly dissapointed over that film. I think for X3, it wasn't a matter of being overhyped (which I probably was) but, a matter of it just not living up to what it was hyping. Sure, it was a good movie but, nowhere near the film I was expecting for the 3rd installment.

As for Ghost Rider, nothing is going to make me not like the movie. I've seen and heard enough already to know that it's going to be good. Good for me anyway. Everyone else, I'm not worried about.

Wow, looking back to July 2006, I should have listened to myself more clearly.

I overhyped the movie for myself and hence that would explain why Im frustrated with it today.

I don't know if this is entirely my fault though?

Sony has a history of over hyping its products. In 2004 they paid reviewers to put out good reviews for such movies like "The Animal" and "A Knights Tale." They were sued and the reviews were found to be fake, and in some cases, the reviewer wasn't even real!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4741259.stm

During the initial buzz prior to Ghost Rider's release, it was said Sony purposely did not prescreen the movie to critics because they knew they would get a low score. And hence the movie was only shown to the press junkets and Super Hero Hype. Therefore the only initial reviews out were "GOOD" reviews. This angered MANY critics. MSJ also promised the movie had plenty of action, a solid love story...compelling characters and kept teasing us with news of "Blackhearts true form" near the end of the movie...all of which was a lie. The scenes they showed at comic con and the Hollywood graveyard were the only action scenes in the movie.

Without fans standing behind MSJ...would this movie have suffered more?

Makes you wonder...was Sony the right studio for Ghost Rider? Can we expect to be lied to again by MSJ & Sony for a possible sequel?

I'm peeved at Sony for wanting the movie to be another family-friendly Spider-Man adventure and their interference over the pettiest things, and I'm peeved at MSJ for not taking it seriously and writing far below the level he's capable of.

Six of one and half a dozen of the other, IMO.

I personally didn't feel it was overhyped. There was more advertising for the DVD here in the UK than the film.

I'm all sad now, thinking of how things could and should have been!

I blame Sony more than MSJ, i was watching DD DC last night and that tone would have been perfect for GR.

I believe Marvel wanted Ghost Rider to have a PG-13 rating as well. I just thought that the film could have been made better for the PG-13 market. Johnson just decided to make a film he wanted while feeding the fans bull**** on a daily basis.

After seeing MSJ's PG-13 Ghost Rider I realized that this movie can not possibly be faithful to the comic without some detrimental changes done to the character and it's equally gruesome villains. This movie screams R.

I saw the film maybe a night ago. Failure on almost every single level.

I wouldnt say it screams R, as the early JB stories were pretty light as well considering the material, thats more of the tone MSJ went for IMO, when he would have been better going for the darker tone's of the comics today.

Well MSJ went that path and unfortunately it failed to show JB in that light as well so I don't know why they went to recycle a failed formula.
