People complaining about this and Fourth Kind's marketings obviously don't remember Blair Witch's marketing. Scifi even aired a fake documentary interviewing family members and town people about the main characters and how they went missing!

And people thought it was a true story, even years later. One of my boss's neighbors was in the Sci-Fi documentary, and ever after I explained that to people, they still insisted it was true.

When I saw Blair Witch, it was only playing in 1 theater in NYC. It was sold out for days (we had to go to an 11am show), and they had display cases with the wrecked cameras and stuff that was supposedly found in the woods. They had the missing person fliers up all up and down the street too.

We all knew it wasn't true, but it was fun to see.

I really don't like Fourth Kind's marketing. I mean they get the lead actress to present herself prior to showing footage of the film, stating that what we're about to see it's "incredibly disturbing" just seems tacky. :whatever:

I don't know maybe a movie that was actually scary or umm...interesting. Both would have been nice.

And I'm not a kid. I'm not afraid of the dark or bumps and thuds in the night. Not afraid of lightning either.

To the kids that liked the movie, what did you like about it? Did you hear everyone else say it was good so you went with it?
as a 40 year old man... (so, as far as age, you are a kid to me. sorry..) I found the movie interesting and scary cause I'm into that stuff... not cause everyone else says it's good... although every one who hates it is following the herd of haters who makes it their business to pick apart a fictional film by stating the obvious... "it's not a true story"! duh!!! could it be cause fellows hating this flick is that they got 'got' by the so-called hype? the movie didn't do that... the people who saw the movie early cause the hype... the movie was gonna have a core audience no matter what they say, they see it, tell people about it, then they see it. whether or not you like it, someone around you will say "if it's not that scary, I'll check it out!" boys and girls, you hated the movie... and you added to the hype.

Ok my dislike for the movie has nothing to do with it not being a true story or following a herd of haters.

A coworker recommended this movie to me a few weeks ago. A friend of hers said it was one of the scaries movies she had ever seen. I found this interesting because I had never even heard of the movie.

Then this thread popped up and I started seeing advertisements, magazines and tv hyping this movie up. A few people in this thread said they were disappointed in the movie saying it used cheap tricks. I started to have doubts about seeing the movie because I felt I could relate to these posters' taste in scary movies.

I was bored tuesday night and I still had some interest in seeing this movie. I knew if I was going to see it, it needed to be in theaters. i went to the 10pm show and I didn't like it. I actually couldn't wait until it was over and this never happens to me when I go see a movie.

I didn't find it scary. Not the loud banging, footsteps, swining chandilier, or flaming ouji board.

The couple's reactions to the situation also didn't feel genuine to me. They were way to calm about it. Even the girl who had been haunted her whole life is trying to find time to study in her haunted house.

The boyfriend joked around way too much. Epecially since he acknowledged the existence of a demon in the house pretty early in the movie. He continues to mock and taunt the demon all while maintaining his confidence that this situation could be solved without getting an expert involved.

Now if I was living with a girl and we had rats or roaches, and I refused to call a professional making my girl live with vermin nights on end because I thought get rid of them myself. I'm pretty sure I would find myself on the curb in no time.

This is the kind of behavior in horror movies that gets me. When a character approaches a supernatural being with much more confidence or arrogance than a real threat. Like in movies where teenagers are able to fight evil spirits by making traps out of household appliances. If they were facing simply a grown man, they'd be dead. But Vengeful spirit, you're good.

And Again way too many funny momements. Unintentional ones like when the Paranormal doctor returns and we walks in the house. "I need to go now, I can't be here. I'll help you though. But I need to go now, I can't be here." That should have been a point where suspense was building and instead was just a LOL moment.

Then when the girl gets out of bed and goes down stairs and starts screaming I was actually starting to get excited like "wow, something good is about to happen then the movie ends abruptly with another blair witch/ [Rec] rip off scene.

Honestly, at least one person in the audience (a very small one granted, it was a week night late show] "Really!?' That's the ending?!"

fear not... I got that one person in my theater too... (if others don't know, read Legion's spoiler) but that didn't bother me one bit. but you have to admit dude.... you knew nothing about the movie until a co-worker mentioned it... the movie didn't create the hype, she did. you started seeing ads and stuff on t.v., you found this thread, heard what ppl were saying/not saying bout the film, and you checked it out. you didn't like it... your prerogative... but the hype of the movie, that's been a real misconception with me... the movie does nothing but be a movie. like I said, the people make the hype, not some tag line. besides, I just wanted to know why people hate movies other people like. that's all, whether or not you believe you follow SOME herd of person (you either are with the crowd of like it/don't like it) the hype of the film came from someone, then you... not the movie itself that's all I'm sayin'...

yes, yes, everyone else is a sheep and you're devestatingly original, we get it. way to be an individual :word:

So it wasn't your movie, that's no reason to belittle people who did by calling them kids. Not everyone likes the same type of movies, especially in the horror genre, some people like movies like this while others like the Saw/torture porn movies, which I find just terrible and not in any way scary. I haven't seen the movie, but it might be the type of movie I find scary because it seems to deal more with unseen fear.

I never said I was original. I came in here, voted and posted my opinion like everyone else.

And like anywhere else in this forum, people who love a movie that's being criticized feel the need to meet opposing opinions with smartass remarks or demand a thorough explanation of why you don't like the movie. Like your opinion isn't vailid because you probably didn't understand the movie, they have a better perspective, which is insulting.

And after seeing this movie, yes I do think alot of people who like this movie are sheep. Maybe some people like byte19 genuinely liked it, that's fine. I don't think this appllies only to movies though, I think the need to fit in is part of our nature, or culture.

But when alot people say "this movie is great", you might already feel like it's a great movie before you have even seen it. It's part of a self-fullfilling prophecy. Or when you walk out of the theater with 5 of your friends and in you head you're not sure whether you liked the movie, your friends suddenly say they loved it, then you seem to convince yourself that you loved it as well. Of course the opposite could be said too. You hate a movie before you even watch it.

This is my first post.
Just got back from seeing this movie. Wasn't scary at all. Probably the most boring movie I've paid to see in theaters. I wouldn't recommend this film to anyone I know.

to the kids who found this movie boring..... what were you expecting to see? I'm actually curious...

This is my response, after I felt I was being belittled for not liking the movie.

I probably shouldn't have referred to other people that liked the movie as kids. But I was alittle upset, sorry.

Legion, the 'kids' reference was not a literal jab at anyone, especially you. I don't know who's who here, so I didn't wanna just say 'dude'... that's a bit rude if you don't know the person... you took offense, I'm apologizing for that now. as for wanting to know why anyone didn't like the flick... I genuinely want to know why, not to belittle anyone here, learned that lesson on the Bat-Boards. yes, I actually liked this movie... and wanting to know why it wasn't liked is for me to find out did I indeed miss something...

for the people that demanded it, did you guys received a email from them to put your name on end credits of the dvd?
i did, and just filled out my name

same here!! looks like the hype we gave it makes us famous.... and those who don't like the movie... try not to get your name on credits... just assume this is for us 'sheep'...

This is awesome, another reason why i should buy the dvd.

I really enjoyed this film. It was a nice change to the usual slasher crap we have to endure with **** and blonde wigs and such.

I saw someone in the name listing "F***** YOUR MOTHER"

obviously they will take out all idiots on the list
at least i got my name on there :D

I saw this last night , It was good. I didn't jump throughout the movie but my gf did. The only thin that got me was at the very end. The scene with the ouiji was awesome , I knew something would happen but the fire was unexpected.
I just read they want to make a sequel and I think it could work. I dont really need to see a sequel though and I think this was alot creepier than Blair Witch.

Also prefer this ending to the alternates.

Can anyone send me a link to the alternate ending?!! I cant find it and I really want to see it :) thanks!

This has got to be the most over hyped movie of all time! I saw it last night and didn't find it scary................at all. Were all the ppl jumping outta their seats in the tv spots actors? :whatever:

I found Blair Witch 1 waaaayyyyy more scarier than this.
