Pedro Pascal is Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic

Lol "manly genius" is not a description I ever would've thought of for Reed
I could see Highmore getting it if they go young

If they go adult, I'd rather Krasinski, mostly because I have no idea what a Penn Badgley is

Definitely has been pretty manly and rugged over the decades.

Look at that square jaw, Captain America would be proud. Plus the guy can sprout five o'clock shadow like no one else. Not sure why you put those pics in a spoiler space though.

I didn't want them taking up a whole bunch of space lol. I'll fix it.

I disagree completely. He's a superhero, and the leader of a team of superheroes. And especially back when Kirby drew him, he had a good physique. He was an explorer leader type, the sort you saw a lot in '60s shows. In fact, in the original FF cartoon, he had a deep commanding voice. He's beaten Dr. Doom one on one. I've never, ever thought of Reed as a prissy scientist type.

what you described makes a good argument to keep Krasinski

I wouldn't say "prissy" but I definitely always pictured more Bill Nye than.. Smart Stallone or something

Kirby might've drawn him that way, but he hasn't really been depicted as brawny in, like, 50 years

i dont envision him as brawny either. More like the guy who played Dexter build and personality not so much his face.

the guy who played Dr House would be another good choice for Reed he sounds a lot like how die hards describe Reed

Hugh Laurie has a RDJ like presence about him. Seems intellectually intimidating too..imagine a scene with Hugh as Reed and Benedict’s Strange…

they were already in something together lol

Laurie 20 years ago maybe... but, yes, I'd use him as an example of a Reed type

tho I personally like a sightly older Reed (I understand needing someone who can play the role for another 10-15 years) it's just hard to find that same old fashion gravitas in these younger actors

Don't give me any ideas here, or else I will start rooting for Highmore next :cwink:

Highmore young and Krasinski adult, lol, that sounded hilarious. But I know what you mean

I wouldn't say the third pic proves anything though. It's the oldest one, from a time where every superhero was drawn in a similar way.
It's not easy to find the right actor if it has to be a guy with that jawline. But if they do, it's likely not an actor who suits Reed in all other ways. It might not even be an actor but some "other" celebrity. Who can't act, lol

With Gruffudd, we saw that a less manly, more soft-looking guy, could play the character.

Those were just to highlight the point that Reed has never been the stereotypical nerdy milksop. He's always been illustrated as strapping or at least in good shape through the decades. He's always been somewhat of a Indiana Jones type but with the exploration in science instead of artifacts and history. I'm not saying a Gruffud type doesn't work or didn't work. But it we could also see a "manly" or rugged Reed and it be very accurate to the comics.

My guess is, the Reed we're going to get ,isn't go to look like a Rugged, square jawed, yoked , guy.

And at the end of the day, what matters more is an actor who can inhabit the role and who fits the part.

My guess is he's gonna be more like John K and Penn and not like Alex Ross's drawings of Reed.

They're going to have a trainer regardless to wear the suit, but I wouldn't pin my hopes on a square jawed, muscle man, to be the 616 Reed Richards.

You're right. Many of the younger actors don't have the authority vibe, they tend to lean more on youthful energy.
It will feel wrong with F4 being too young

I'm all for seeing a younger Johnny than we've seen before, someone who could pal around with Tom Holland or some young X-Men like Iceman. Reed represents the father figure of the group, so he should be older and more mature. Sue is somewhere in between. And Ben's like the fun uncle.

We should change the name of this thread to Most Muscular Man Alive.

maybe I'm just getting too old, but I'd have a hard time accepting a Reed younger then me

so like a young Brendan Fraser?

a young actor with authority vibe is someone who is very charismatic and draws attention from everyone when they walk in the room. They all shut up when he speaks.

Marlon Brando, Tom Cruise, RDJ, Bryan Cranston, Daniel Day Lewis, Al Pacino, come to mind

But none of them are young. Christian Bale and Tom Hardy are the closest i can think of when it comes to a strong masculine actor with some sense of authority who are somewhat younger than the actors i listed

you don't have to be overly muscular per-say to have authority...

I'm fine with Reed having a less then traditional superhero body type
(yes, he's been drawn like that in the past, but, everyone in comics are over exaggerated) people should respect him for his mind, first and foremost

an given his power set (and more importantly his use of intelligence/planing/inventions/tech) he's not really required to be buff (fit/healthy yes, but, doesn't need to be a body builder) I mean as man of science he should have an understanding of the importance of a healthy regulated fitness routine/ and the knowledge of how to maintain a balance diet...

but, he's also the type who gets caught up in his work/loses track of time and sometimes forgets to take care of himself (so I can't picture him spending countless hours in the gym daily lol)

he should be more of an example of brains over brawns

maybe in the occasion of him needing to intimidate someone he use's his stretching to get bigger then them, but, for the most part he's more the type to try to talk/think his way out of most situations before resorting to brute force

To me, Jon Hamm at the start of Madmen would be perfect.

He’s too old now, but prior to Madmen, nobody ever heard of him.

If they’re willing to go with an unknown, they can probably find someone like that.

If they want a bigger name, their options are more limited, but there are known actors out there who can do it - but none as perfect to me as a young Jon Hamm.

sounds like what we saw in MoM

I see much more in the vain of Alex's Ross's other Model for Reed which was Russell Johnson of Gilligan's Island

He was a handsome guy in good shape in his youth, but he wasn't an overly muscular , square jawed, Superman like figure.

So Nathan Fillion from Firefly

Heh. It never occurred to me before but the Professor was basically a 60's sitcom version of Reed Richards. :funny:
