Let me start off by saying that I'll be upset if Martin Scorsese, Leo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Christian Bale, and Hugh Jackman are not nominated this year. Who else agrees?

So, now, what are you picks? And, I remind you that it can be in any category. Like, for instance, I think Superman Returns deserves best visual effects nomination.

Scorsese, Nolan, and Dayton & Faris (Little Miss Sunshine) definitely deserve a director nomination. I'd also put Christophe Gans in that list, but that's a personal favorite that I know isn't gonna happen.

I can see Michael Cain getting a Best Supporting Actor nomination. He was amazing in The Prestige. And, as usual, made it seem so easy.

I'll go ahead and update my list. All deserve to be nominated, in my opinion, but only the first group have a decent chance (this all from what I've seen, of course).

POSSIBLE
Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine)*
Paul Greengrass (United 93)
Christopher Nolan (The Prestige)
Martin Scorsese (The Departed)

PERSONAL
Christophe Gans (Silent Hill)
Richard Linklater (A Scanner Darkly)
Micheal Mann (Miami Vice)

*Is it possible for two people that aren't brothers to be nominated?

Best Director Possibilities or at least ny hopefuls.

1 Martin Scorsese. The Departed.
2 Christopher Nolan. The Prestige.
3 Oliver Stone. World Trade Center.
4 Clint Eastwood Flags Of Our Fathers.

Best Supporting actor.

1 Jack Nickolson. The Departed
2 Matt Damon. The Departed.
3 Micheal Cain The Prestige.
4 Djimon Housnou. Blood Diamond.

Best Actor.

1 Nickolas Cage. World Trade Center.
2 Christian Bale The Prestige.
3 Leo Dicaprio The Departed.
4 Matt Damon The Good Shepard.

Best Picture.

1 Flags Of Our Fathers.
2 The Departed.
3 The Prestige.
4 The Good Shepard.
5 World Trade Center.

After seeing The Prestige I hope it gets a lot of nominations.

I think The Prestige will get snubbed since there are better movies out this year that are generating alot more buzz in the Best Pic catagory my predictions...

1) DreamGirls
2) Flags Of Our Fathers
3) The Departed
4) Babel
5) The Queen

Winner...DreamGirls.

I wanna see Alec Baldwin and Mark Wahlberg get something for The Departed. Leo also gave a solid performance.

I included "so far" in the thread title for a reason. The Prestige seems like a good candidate right now, but I doubt it'll survive as the bigger films are released. Michael Cain is the only one who may get nominated. Any other nomination may be stuff like best costume.

The Departed and Flags of our Fathers are the two that will stick with people till January when the nominations are announced.

I can see Departed getting nominated for:
Best Picture
Best Director-Martin Scorsese
Best Actor-Leonardo DiCaprio
Best Supporting Actor-Jack Nicholson
Best Screenplay
Best Editing
and possibly some more.

As for Matt Damon. . .if he's nominated for anything this year it'll be for The Good Shepard.

And, Flags of Our Fathers will get the usual nominations that come with these war films everyone loves.

So, anyway, like I said before The Prestige may or may not survive with the upcoming films. We need to be on the look-out for films like The Fountain (which looks awesome and may get Hugh Jackman nominated), that new Mel Gibson film (which may or may not get affected by his backlash), The Good Shepard, The Good German, and some others I can't think of right now.

As for Christian Bale, he has two other big profile films being released this year. So, lets see what happens with that.

EDIT: Now, that I think about, Christian Bale won't recieve a nomination for The Prestige. Rescue Dawn, directed by Werner Herzog, is the film that Bale may be nominated for. IF he gets nominated for anything it'll probably be for that since its about Vietnam and what-not.

So, yeah, Michael Cain is the only one likely to be nominated. If Bale and Jackman are nominated for anything it'll most likely be for The Fountain and Rescue Dawn.

You only have chosen 4...Nominations go to 5

Forest Whitaker will at the very least get a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "The Last King of Scotland...I Kid You Not.

Yeah, I'd heard a lot of talk about The Last King of Scotland, and I think if anyone's worthy of at the very least a nomination, it's Whitaker.

Forest Whitaker is the front runner to win Best Actor. He's the man to beat,Ryan Gosling I hope will get nominated for his work in Half Nelson.I'm sure he will though.

For all things Oscar...www.oscarwatch.com This is a great site considering that they keep track of all the buzz for which person and for which movie.

They should just give Helen Mirren the Oscar now, something tells me she's guaranteed to win.

I'd love to see Prestige get the Oscars it deserves, but Dreamgirls has been getting a LOT of hype behind it, calling it "Eddie Murphy's true return" and his resurrection, etc.

Too bad Pan's Labyrinth wasn't in English, or else it would be right up there.

It's got a chance at Best Foreign Film but I have a feeling Almodovar will walk away with that for Volver.:cwink:

I suspect this is the year that Scorsese gets it.

Good Lord, Pan's Labyrinth looks like an amazing movie. I hope it wins!

I may wait to catch Departed on video. But, is it really that good?

Forest Whitaker but will the oscars give it to another black man so soon? I'm still happily shocked that Foxx got one so soon after Denzel.
