Babel will probably be up for best director, I can't spell his name off the top of my head, but critcs love that guy.

Right now, you are correct The Departed, and The Queen definatley have to be the favs, but again I will say this, December is when everything that anyone thinks will win an award, will get released, it is way to early to start making perdictions, because while they will be big players (Departed, and Queen) it's tough to say what will actually win or not.

Take another look at the Oscar buzz around town.

Dreamgirls is the favorite *****es.

I expect The Departed to lead the way with nominations

I hope Hugh Jackman gets a Best Actor nomination for his role in The Fountain. He was excellent, best I've ever seen him.

I would doubt it, weather they should or shouldn't Box office plays some part in the desicion making process

It's easy for most of us to say because most of us preferr cop violent movies over movie like the Queen, and Notes to a Scandal, but the Academy isn't the most generous to Scorcesse as they should be. I think possibley the Good German, or the Good Shepard will lead the way with nominations

Really?
Dont get me wrong The Fountain was excellent and Hugh was great but I thought The Prestige was actually a stronger performance from him.
Either nomination for him would be well deserved though.

I think that the queen( wonderful movie), the departed( the same), the good german, the good sephard and possibly dreamgirls will be the movies with the most nominations.

Not sure about flags of our fathers and letters from two jima.

i am going to bet that this year, the most nominations a single movie gets is like 4 or 5, it is another real spread out year, with no clear cut favoirtes

This year has been horrible for movies...alot of dissapointments this year.

I highly doubt Dreamgirld, The Good German or even Apocalypto will win in the main nominations.

I guess The Departed, The Queen and Babel are going to be the biggest sharks this time.

Don't hold your breath on that one. :wow:

I hope Apocalypto gets some noms. That movie was amzing. My favorite movie of the year.

Now we can say that The Good German and The Good Shepherd won't get the main awards :(

Take it back. NOW!

But to be real, the buzz and reviews coming out of the premiere were pretty astonishing. Jen Hudson is considered a lock for Best Supporting Actress, Eddie Murphy will likely get a nod for Best Supporting Actor.

Combine that with the music and production design, and the fact that it's been hyped all year (which we know is always a factor come awards time) Dreamgirls will likely be the favorite.

That Queen movie is getting a lot of love so i could see the bird in the lead role getting a nom
Leo for The Departed seems as close to a cert for best actor as there is right now
Still some interesting movies to be released yet though

Alright, alright. I watched the trailer and now I must admit that you're right.

But I don't see it winning Best Picture Award (though it must have nomination).

I too feel this year hasn't been cinema's best, but you gotta find your own hits if you think others where dissapointments. But we did get just some classics released this year V for Vendetta came out of nowhere, and probably will take the cake as the best action movie made in the past couple of years. Deja Vu, and Casino Royale where excellent surprses, who would have thought both pictures would have been as classy as they turned out to be. Lucky Number Slevin was gold, and that movie wasn't even on my radar before it was released, same with The Proposition. We had two good magician movies made, something that doesn't always happen when movies with the same plots are released close to each other. There was an American Horror revival where a handfull of solid horror movies original, and remake where released.

Sure, maybe Blockbuster season was a bust (imo X3, SR, Talladega Nights) but outside of the summer season I think this year is just as strong as last years was.

I'd prefer it if he got a nom for best actor in Blood Diamond since I believe he had a stronger performance in that film than in The Departed (he still rocked in TD though).
