That's my theory. Audiences will so embrace TDK that writers will take action accordingly... the mentality has shifted, where realism is taking precedence over fantasy.

What the new generation of Batfans are savvy with, will determine what the new issues will carry.

I really suspect to see a rise in sales as the fantasy aspect drops.

I hope you're wrong on this. I think it'd be shame to toss out nearly seventy years of history just because one movie director saw things differently in his version of the character.

That said, there have already been a couple of attempts to introduce the 'cut smile' into the comics--ahead of the movie. The prose issue of Batman that Morrison wrote (663?) and the 'Lover and Madmen' arc of Batman Confidential both had a Joker with a fixed smile. Plus Lee Bermejo is working on a graphic novel that seems to feature that look, too. It remains to be seen whether that look will catch on, though.

I hope this won't happend. It would proof once again that comics are an inferior medium to movies. That's so sad. Even the comic book creators feel that way.

Any change made by DC comics to make Batman reflect Nolan's movies will be short lived, and the characters will revert back to their iconic form eventually.

Never going to happen.

not gonna happen, and if by some f**ked up reason it does, it will be short lived.

I really doubt it. Movies, even very successful ones, rarely have lasting effects on comics. Just look at the past.

The X-men movies were popular, so the characters started wearing black leather costumes. That faded after a few years.

Batman89 was a huge movie, but Joker didn't start sporting a perma-white smile in the comics. Batman did try out an all black suit for a while, but that has only stayed around sporadically.

Spider-man was a huge movie, and that had little effect on the way the comic Pete was written beyond turning his web organic, and that's already been changed back to normal.

No matter how popular the movie, most of the time things return to the way they were. It might take a few years, but that's been the trend. Even if TDK ends up being huge, I highly doubt they'll change such a drastic point of the Joker like his perma-whiteness.

If they did something leading off of TDK I doubt it would be in primary DC continuity. More likely an elseworlds.

Could you postme the pictures Lee Bermejo has released? I'm sure your talking about those black and white pictures where hes leaving arkham aselym, with harley quinn and so on right? :) Would really like to know more about that.

Oh and they dropped the full-black suit thing off from Xmen comics? i actually really liked that. :(

If anything, all that will change about the Jokers look in the comic is that his implied chelsea smile will become less implied and more obvious. I've always felt that to smile that wide he had to be somewhat disfigured, and with Bermejos recent art and Morrisons Joker issue in Batman, they seem to already be going this way.

I really, really doubt permawhite will be going anywhere though, as that's an iconic part of the character that Nolan took out because well, in that regard, he's a god damn idiot. Comic fans would throw a fit if they tried to change it in the comics.

I've seen two of Bermejo's Joker pieces. Allegedly they were used as inspiration for TDK. I liked 'em.

I doubt that they'll change much in the comics, just because of the way Joker is depicted in TDK.

Yeah but do you got a link for those two or possibly upload? I can't seem to have any luck and getting kinda desperate löl. :(

But yeah, i don't think the permawhite will get removed, maybe an elseworld thing but i certainly hope the scar gets more popular, but not the whole batarang thing that made it in Confidential. :(

Thin Alfred. Barbara Gordon.

Those are both minor characters, and only Alfred was Alter, Barbara was simply added to the comic books.

In general, drastic visual changes that occur because of movies don't last. I don't see them changing the perma-white anyways, but if they did, I'd bet money that it would be retconned in under 4 years.

I don't have them saved, but Google is your friend.

The only Joker pics I've seen him do are there, including the two previews from the upcoming graphic novel he's doing.

Sure it will.

Just like the black or blue and gray look did.

It's not going to happen. THE KILLING JOKE features it, THE MAN WHO LAUGHS features it, and rumors are the new Joker origin story will feature it as well.

What new Joker origin story? They just finished a new one in Batman Confidential, and it did have it...but what other one are you talking about?

I don't think that's going to happen. Despite the many disparities within the cannon of Joker origin's there is one constant, guy falls into a vat of acid, guy's skin is bleeched white, guy goes nuts (or more nuts depending). There is no way to sensibly backtrack and have him not be permawhite in the comics, nor is there any reason to. Can I see them picking up on other things such as the longer hair and cut smile? Of course, some already have, but removing the bleached skin is simply inconceivable.

One that is coming out. Lee Bermejo is illustrating it.
