BvS The Zack Snyder Validation Thread (big rant)

It's laughable that some people don't think he looks like Bruce Wayne. They are blind indeed.

I dare you to go watch Beyond the Trailer's reaction/talk of these set pics...
Man she annoys the hell out of me.

The irony is if Jon Hamm would've been cast, I bet everyone would be going on about how much he resembles comic book Wayne, posting side by sides etc. With Affleck on no one's mind.

Affleck definitely has a good look for the part though.
Jon Hamm and Ben Affleck both look like fantastic Bruce Waynes to me. Hamm, even more-so sometimes. But like a slightly older Wayne than Ben. But im sure he would have been horrendous as Batman.

Bale looked pretty damn close as well. He was a spot-on younger Bruce.

Affleck doesn't look like Bruce Wayne? Since when?

If he had a higher reputation as an actor, this would have been heralded as the greatest comic book casting of all time. People would be taking to the streets naked and screaming while waving pictures of Zack Snyder frantically above their heads in a deliriously religious fashion. Let's not feign blindness just because one has their doubts about him as an actor.
Haha exactly.

Indeed. And that's the problem with comic book movies for the most part, and why they get a bad rep. Fans often wonder why? Well that's your reason. Obviously some are just poorly written and that's a different problem. But even some of the best comic book movies, whether they have good actors on board or not, it's about the performance and delivery. It's usually not the most riveting thing to see. Sure most of them are successful and make ****loads of money but they still get a bad reputation due to weak performances and/or predictable plot. That's where the "dumb fun" gets thrown around.

You said it perfect zryson. They cast the photogenic actor or the top draw. Nuance and character is usually thrown out the window. Mamoa and Gadot for Aquaman and Wonder Woman, need i say more? All ive ever seen from Mamoa besides bad acting is him doing well at looking like a menacing warrior and yelling at people. But of course the motivation behind that casting for Zack is probably "Fans need to see Aquaman in a different light, as a badass".

As for cashing in on the Avengers trend. Yeah, ive been thinking about that recently, and im beginning to not give a damn about these upcoming Justice League movies. Im more excited for B v S and a couple of the solo spin-offs. Especially since they're holding off on Darkseid.

Nice post shauner111 and once again you make some great points. I was looking through the history of superhero movies last week and was shocked at how many bad movies have been made over the years (not even Superman or Batman have been exempt with some shockingly inferior sequels churned out.) Casting photogenic actors might seem a smart thing from the studio point of view but unless you can carry the role and convince audiences you are that character its a huge risk - which is why so many actors in superhero movies fall flat on screen. But then they often also cast unknown/less popular actors too because they dont cost the studio as much - otherwise they would be shelling out many millions of dollars for huge names.

As for The Avengers - its a huge influence on what the studios are doing. They have all looked at how massive and groundbreaking that movie was - not just box office but merchandising etc and they all want to try and replicate it with their own heroes which is why the various studios are all rushing ahead to try and capitalize on the superhero craze.

I had the time to revisit Watchmen again after years of not seeing it. The film is still damn good and it holds up. This is still on my top ten cbm evah.

I still need to watch that film. Would you recommend the standard, directors, or ultimate cut?

Director's cut has like 25 min more if I'm not mistaken, it's superior to the theatrical cut without a doubt, more story most of all. The ultimate cut is the same cut but with the Tales Of The Black Freighter story inserted in the movie.

Did I get it right?

Thank you! I will upgrade my version to the directors cut.

I think the theatrical cut flows better, but I would keep some of the stuff in the Director's cut.
