Persons Unknown

The editing was choppy in general in the episode but the way they trudged back into the hotal played as if they had lost hope as opposed to being interested in asking how they were swerved.

only watched the first ep so far. 2nd is on dvr cuz 1st was good enough to warrant it. acting is a bit suspect but plot is strong enough to make me return. looks like nbc is trying to jump on the abc and fox bandwagon. they're smart enough to only go 6 eps for their first outing though it seems.

My current theory as of being half way through episode three:

So Alan Ruck's character killed his wife. Seemed to do it because she was suffering. Why tell people she's still alive though? Could he be crazy and think she's still alive?

Tori (Blonde girl) mentioned seeing a therapist when the fat guy tried to rape her.
The soldier recounted a pretty traumatic war story.
Moira is admittedly a psychiatric patient.
Charlie killed his wife.
Janet was abused as a child (according to the reporter).

What do these things have in common? They make people crazy. Could that be the common link? Are all of the kidnapped insane? Is the village some kind of radical psychiatric treatment or experiment on crazy people? It even fits for the fat guy as he assaulted Tori, could be a sex offender. Only person who doesn't fit so far is Joe.

Could Janet's "We're not lab rats, we're human beings line (which they made a point of showing again in the recap) be foreshadowing? Them all being crazy would be right up McQuarrie's alley.

Hmm, just some food for thought.

I called that mask trick a couple of minutes before it happened.

Woah. Doctored photo? I hope so.

Third ep was back on a an upswing.

Oh, snap. Can't wait to see who the traitor is next week.

Agreed. So I wonder what the deal with Blackham is. "You're not a car salesman, are you?" "Nope."

He doesn't work for the kidnappers or he would've known about the gas masks and not attacked Charlie. So what is his deal?

That nightmanger is awesome. He walked off knowing what was about to happen.

Checking the validity of the person's identity in the photo should be easy for the cop. What's the deal? That would just bring more suspicion to the PI and his clients.

The car salesman's line about "believing it but that's not what happened" was tense! Loved it.

I'm starting to like the Tori character. Moira is pretty cool too.

Perhaps he really is the ex-husband. It would make sense that the grandmother wouldn't recognize him as they were estranged at the time. At the same time, why let his daughter suffer the grandmother's abuse if this is the case? Hard to say what the angle with that is.

I'm really enjoying the characters. The show is developing them nicely.

He kind of has to be her husband now.

Maybe this whole process is about breaking people down to build them a new life? Maybe the whole time her ex-husband was missing as a deadbeat was him at this "town" getting broken down and put into a new life? Now he's subconsciously trying to find her in his new life.

Interesting theory Matt but so soon after Shutter Island? If so that most likely makes Joe a doctor like Ruffalo was.

The reporter suddenly being back on the story seemed a little rushed but overall this episode was a turn back in the right direction, the twist at the end was interesting although I'm not convinced it's legit yet.

On the second episode now but do they explain why that dumb ***** is keeping the fortune cookie that says kill her neighbor? She got the message why keep the damn paper?

Yeah, it is a bit too soon after Shutter Island. Unless its an experiment and not treatment.

That said, if anyone is the doctor, its Blackham I think. He's the one making them confront their issues. His attack on Tori made her confront her intimacy issues. He called Charlie out on killing his wife, telling him that he thinks Charlie believes it, but its not what happened. Even with the gas mask, the Marine beat the hell out of him for that. Possibly making him confront anger issues?

The only real question is, if its true, why would he leave his daughter with that woman? Unless CBK is right and the village erases people's lives and gives them new ones and he was a previous resident.

Anyone else think that the main guy is Christian Bale's twin?

Some Bale dna yes,

Just caught up with the episodes, am liking it so far, the driving into the light thing, did they pass out and get turned around? For a bit there I thought there were 2 identical towns, I mean the man in the hotel was beaten pretty bad the night before then he was looking pretty fresh faced there at the end.

And I'm sorry but after seeing the hotel guy run through the gate with easy he gets a beating every single night before his shift ends, he doesn't want to talk, fine, but he should know each day he gets a beating, it comes with the gig.

Just before the end I was thinking, stop trying to make Joe and Janet happen Persons writers. Then bam!

Kind of a choppy ep. But I was really liking Tori and now she's gone.

I'm thinking its a radical psychitaric treatment especially after this episode. Tori comes to terms with her mother's death and her father's abuse/her rapes, and then she is let go.

Plus the Chinese restuarant employee asking Joe if he believes in the "program." It sure as hell sounds like psychiatric treatment to me.

Well, "they" know about Charlie's wife obviously. But Moira is in a mental health facility and the put her in some other mental health program? What could she have possibly done?

Maybe she is there to help the others like she did with Tori ( the butterfly ) and now with the military guy.

I can see that. I just can't see how the car salesman is supposed to be helping Charlie if he is supposed to be his guide.

Apparently the show is moving to Saturday death slot on July 17.

By making Charlie realize what he did, maybe ?
That being said I am not sure than the salesman is one of "them".

I missed the last couple of episodes. Has the show been good? Is it worth catching up on? Not a good sign that NBC is putting it on Saturdays now.

Its actually been pretty good Kal. The ratings are low, which is why its being moved to Saturday, but that's no reflection of its quality which is fairly hihg.

Thanks Matt. Looks like I will catch up on it then.

Just saw the latest episode. It was pretty boring but the last two minutes made up for it. I'm really liking the theory that it's a radical psychiatric program. It's starting to look like that Joe is caring for Janet which made him ancy about going through this program. I was surprised that the reporter turned out to be Janet's husband. I don't know what they're planning with that storyline. Does he really care about her and want to find her or is he the reason she's there in the first place. I think Janet's mother has something to do with her being there though.

I'm confused by that, too -- I thought in the first episode that private investigator was chewed out by Janet for NOT finding her husband, and yet he knew where her husband was all along -- right in the same city she's in, in a high profile job where his byline is public!:huh:

Now it seems like the PI is working for someone else with an agenda, since he's trying to . . what? - keep the reporter from tracking down his wife??

Pretty convoluted.
