If someone asked me several months ago which Spidey title I'd likely bring back to my pull list first, Sensational Spider-man would have been a shoe in.....but now it's actually FNSM that I think is starting to show more potential....(and I actually rated FNSM as worse than ASM at year-end.

It's the little things in the title that are bringing me around...things like:

1/ Using classic villains like the Vulture, Sandman and Mysterio.....
2/ Having Flash figure out Reiley was Pete...because more Flash/ puny Reiley crap would have been a waste of an angle that died twenty years ago...
3/ Adding back story to the vulture and making it relevant to the ending of the arc
4/ Referencing spidey mythos (Ben Reiley)
5/ Digging into the archives for old supporting characters (Deb, Betty etc...)

....and even the crap David brought upon the mythos himself (Evil Ben anyone?) seems to be in his crosshairs to be obliterated (Sands of crime arc..)

.....and maybe best of all, I have a really good feeling David is planning on retconning the hell out of the "Other" with this Miss Arrow character...while the flagship title continues to ignore it mercifully ....

...it's actually gonna be pretty cool to have a spidey title back on the old pull list :woot: ...but I see anything resembling a female green goblin and I'll drop it quicker than Cap can say "I quit"...ok that was uncalled for :oldrazz:

...why isn't SSM on your pull list?

Sensational is better, but FNSM has been good since #14 and the beginning of the Vulture arc.
Everyone knows that.

So I'm the only one who's like the title since issue one?

Looks like, 'cause it's only recent issues I've actually found it passable. We'll see how the Evil Ben stuff wraps up before I make a final decision, but David managed to avoid the choppin' block. This time.

Well to be honest, ssm and fnsm are the best imo, hopefully all this civil war bs will come to an end when hulk comes back to earth with his peeps and makes things right, you know its gonna happen.

No. I wasn't too thrilled about "The Other" issues but after that the book really started finding it's own voice. To me it was the Hobgoblin 2211 storyline that really got me back into the FNSM title and ever since then the book has progressively gotten stronger and stronger. I love that Peter David is following up on some of his past story arcs too. Solid stuff.

Well the "Other" crap got all 3 titles booted....I'm just not as keen on the title as everyone else...or at least not keen enough to put it back on my pull list yet.....give you a few examples.....Feral was a good arc....but the ending was an extreme let down....Many foes of Parker....decent potential...Aunt May drugs chameleon (bleh)....the MJ one shot was strong but the Aunt May one-shot was far from anything special and the Black Kat one shot was....well silly!!!....just hasn't been consistent in my opinion

heh....it's great how two spidey fans can be so polarized as to what entertains them....it was the hobby 2211 storyline that made drop the book :)...didn't even finish the arc :)

i bought the first issue of that arc and was utterly disgusted. i picked it up when it was over :)

I think you've made some really got points here, I've been reading FNSM since issue 1 and there have been low points and high points. But I like Peter David and have stuck with the title and agree it now has many good points.

In addition to the excellent points you make above, I think one of the things that Peter David does really well in this title is to have many plots and threads running through each issue. I rememebr back to the late 70s/early 80s spidey - while the actual story arcs were only 2 or 3 issues long, each one introduced many elements and characters that would have an impact on future arcs. This was galvanized to me reading through an Essentials book recently.

I also agree that PD is going to try and retcon a number of the recent storylines. So a few shaky issues I think FNSM is pretty good at the moment

Well, I've heard from persona fter person that I should give FNSM another chance, and I did with the Back In Black storyline. The first part was actually good. I don't knwo if I'll be adding this to my pull list again, but it's definitely NOT crap, which is more than I can say for the first 6 issues or so I actually bought of it.

Sensational is still the best Spider-title by far, though.

For me, i began to really enjoy FNSM with the Mysterio arc, and have been loving it ever since.

I hope PAD continues featuring the classic rogues.

I actually have gone back and picked up the entire "Taking Wing" arc as I honestly believe it may be the strongest Spidey arc since "Hydra"....I liked the Mysterio arc, just not sure what's to be made of the whole "Beck as an agent of the Undead" or whatever that was.....the Mysterio arc is another case of David dipping into (albeit recent) the history of the character...in fact iirc Klum is actually in the warehouse where Kingpin sells him the Mysterio (from the TETMD) garb as he's being watched by Beck at the beginning of the arc......Pete nonchalantly pulling the principal out of harms way as he's talking was classic :).....good stuff!!

...as for classic rogues I'd love to see a jacked-up Electro in the future :)

Me too. Also Doc Ock, and an Untold Tale of Kraven The Hunter!

I wouldn't mind seeing Electro again too....back in his "classic" yellow and green costume even.

Sure, it may be slightly corny...but the "realistic" and bald electro just hasn't ever cut it with me....he looks too much like any other bald guy...and i just like the costume he wore...it made him "Electro"...and was a good design...sometimes youjust can't beat the original.

Am i the only one who feels that way??

Not at all! I love his original look as well.

No, I want an update. And not that stupid John Byrne one either.

Didn't electro already get jacked up some years back?(It's funny, the last thing I read him in was MKSM, and I can't remember anything that happened.)

ASM#425 featued a powered up Electro, I reckon it's the best Spidey Vs Electro battle I've ever read. Spidey also got to wear a cool insulated suit.

Yeah, that is kind of weird. Personally, I think that a lot of Spidey fans were just too turned off because of the "alternate" reality Uncle Ben. It didn't bother me in the least though because it's not the ACTUAL Uncle Ben and it's not changing any status quo...nor did it change anything for Spider-Man/Peter Parker's motivations. Though if you're looking to give it another chance I'd hold off because Alternate Uncle Ben is going to be back in FNSM next issue.
