I'll tell you why. Because every time Bungie sends its representatives over to New Zealand to discuss the film, they always end up wasting time on Halo 2 Live.

Peter Jackson: "Guys, we should really start discussing the fi-"
Bungie stooge #1: "OMG guyz I gots teh rocket."
Peter Jackson: "Guys."
Bungie stooge #2: "OK newbz letz go in therez and roxxorz their soxxorz!!"
Peter Jackson: "About the fil-"
Bungie stooge #1: "OMG OMG I gots teh flag!!"
Bungie stooge #3: "Somebody get Teh Hawg!! Help teh Flag-Man!!!"
Peter Jackson: "Look guys. I was going over this script again and it's really not all that great. I'm thinking we'll need a complete rewrite, if we want this movie to work.."
Bungie stooge #2: "OMG we Winzor!!! suck it Reds!!!"
Bungie stooge #1: "Well PJ it's been fun. We'll cover more on the film next time. Thanks for having us."
Peter Jackson: "..."
ROFL :D

If Jackson directs this I bet there will be a four hour extended version on DVD  ;)

but Jackson won't direct though he might because no director has shown interest or has been signed on...

it;s always a possibility, but I think Jackson has other projects he wants to directs, and I believe he will be donig small films for a while befoe he comes back with The Hobbit!

That's crazy, I'm sure that between the second and third unit directors on LOTR some would be interested in the gig.

Methinks WETA has too much on their hands already to be available for the project.

Well, they said Weta's doing it, so, Weta's doing it, plus, it seems to have been moved back a year, so it's gonna be alright, even if it won't get made, but the scripts already been made, using $10 mill sold to Universal, and over at Latino Review they gave it a good mark (if they reviewed the script, I can't remember)

To be honest I'm not actually a HUGE fan of the games, I do like them, but I'm not a die hard fan (I suck at first person shooters), but this film will be good. What's this film Peter Jackson's doing about some ghost?

The first game was good but I didnt like HALO 2 that much.

The whole HALO story does make a great basis for a film trilogy though.

I was really surprised that the games actually have stories however :p

Let's hope this is one video game movie that doesn't suck storywise (I really enjoyed Doom :O)

The script has been thrown out, thats why this is being moved back a year.....:( :down

What seemed like a production on the fast track with the feature adaptation of the popular video game HALO is shaping up to be yet another horror story of production hell as the producers recently decided to toss out 28 DAYS LATER scribe Alex Garland's script (which is weird considering there seemed to be unanimous agreement that his script was excellent) and handed writing duties to novelist/screenwriter DB Weiss. He recently spoke to "GameSe****ch" about his involvement in the project and had this to say "Yeah, I’m pretty excited about it. And I did always think there was a lot more to the Halo universe than most games -- I remember switching to “Easy” mode on the first game, so I could plow through it more quickly and find out what happened next." Needless to say, this will likely significantly alter the production timeline, especially if the producers keep hiring new scribes until they get the "perfect" script. Read the rest of Weiss' interview with "GameSe****ch" over HERE.

I'm sure this film will be sweet and everything, but don't you guys think that all of the effort is a bit wasted on Halo???

Halo doesn't have the history or majesty that other video game properties have. I'd much rather see, say, a Metroid Peter Jackson movie.

Metroid? Are you serious?

The reason Halo is so popular is that it's not a kids game, it's an adult's sci-fi shoot 'em up with blood, gore and explosions, and something most games lack: a good and cohesive story.

Yeah, I meant WETA is probably not available right now so that's another reason why the film is on hold.
Weren't they attached to a Neon Genesis Evangelion live action project as well ?

Have ever played Halo?

Yeah... PJ looks like he... hm.... does he have cancer? He went from pudgy to whispy. Odd.

Has there ever been a movie based on a video game that didn't suck?

Yeah... it's fun and all, but seriously nothing special. Most people play it for te online battles.

They're attached to both. PJ is producing the Halo movie, and Richard Taylor has expresses serious interest in producing Evalgelion. I'm guessing Halo is going to get made first, but both movies are kind of in limbo at this point, since niether has a director attached (and in the case of Evangelion, not even a studio).

It's awesome that Weta is finally getting to stretch their wings in the Sci-Fi genre though! I'm hoping that both movies turn out great.
