Peter Jackson's Mortal Engines

Yeah, I love the visuals, but was expecting a slightly different story. The "your mother said that you could stop him" schtick made me roll my eyes. :whatever:

Yeah, that part really stuck out as a bad "let's set up a 'chosen one' angle" line.

If you've read the book, then it might make some sense if there's been a bit of a story tweak. If it's just the movie/marketing forcing Hester into a Neo or Rey type role, boo to that.

I'm in. I don't know if it will be any good, but I'm digging the visuals. It has a cool Jules Verne feel to it, which is something I haven't seen in a while. Also, good to see Hugo Weaving playing a bad guy again.

Weaving as a bad guy is always fun but Hollywood rarely lets him play anything else, apart from Lord of the Rings and the dad in Hacksaw Ridge (which he did very well, btw).

is the actress the daughter from Vincent D'Onofrio ?

This looks like my steampunk dreams realized on the big screen and I love it. But I'll admit that the 2nd trailer didn't grab me like the first one did. The previous trailer offered some intrigue with cool visuals and a new concept but this one makes the movie look like a paint by the numbers, standard YA flick with questionable acting from some of the cast. But I'll still stan for this. I hope that I'll love this.

Very true. The guy just LOOKS evil, haha.

Junke XL made an amazing score for Mad Max, so this is good news for me.

The first trailer was interesting, but the second was pretty bad. Not interested unless it gets really good reviews.

I've liked some of Junkie's scores (Fury Road, 300 2, parts of Divergent), but it's been awhile. For the past few years he's churned out some really awful crap with Deadpool, Dark Tower and Tomb Raider. I know he's capable of making decent (though nowhere near great) music, but he hasn't done so in years.

Maybe he's just gotten lazy, or works with directors who specifically want bland scores. But at this point he's given me no reason to expect anything good from him. It doesn't help that aside from Mad Max he's never worked on a decent movie (though Deadpool's alright for what it is).

Peter Jackson's Mortal Engines Looks Kind of Amazing - IGN

The panel opened with that first 25 minutes of footage, which was pretty stunning. Immediately we’re thrown into the scene of one giant moving city -- London -- pursuing a smaller, town-like place, with the latter rolling along in a high-speed chase that sounds like the most unlikely of circumstances but actually plays as a gripping chase scene.

On the bridge of London, Hugo Weaving (as Thaddeus Valentine) oversees the pursuit over their overmatched soon-to-be victim town. The chase culminates with grinding wheels on the victim town falling apart, and giant harpoons being launched at the town, and it being “ingested” by London.

Within London we meet Tom Natsworthy (Sheehan) and Katherine Valentine (George), who discuss the “60-Second War” of the distant past that almost wiped out mankind. But soon, Hester Shaw (Hilmar), a resident of the town that was just ingested, attacks Thaddeus and flees. Another chase follows as Natsworthy and Shaw find themselves amid her old town as it is essentially consumed by the larger city in a humongous factor of sorts. It all culminates in the pair, perhaps inevitably, literally falling together into the same dire circumstances that will no doubt result in the two having to work together for the greater good in order to avoid a potentially cataclysmic event.

I want to believe in this, but the first full trailer did nothing for me. It looked small and not all that great.

Oh look, a new trailer. Time to watch.

This movie really looks quite extraordinary. Definitely one I'll go to see.
