Actor Channing Tatum, screenwriter Billy Ray and producer Joe Roth are seeking to tell the origin of Peter Pan with a pitch package that went out to studios Tuesday. Not much is known in the way of details, but the project carries the title Peter Pan Begins.
The pitch is the latest in the newest Hollywood development trend that has execs moving beyond comic books and toys and on to classic literature reading lists -- and no one is more at the forefront of this lit movement than Roth.
Roth produced last year’s billion-dollar grossing adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, is in the casting stages of Oz, the Great and Powerful, which is set up at Disney with James Franco and Mila Kunis starring, and has Snow White and the Huntsman set up at Universal with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron in the leads.
Roth isn’t alone in raiding the public domain. Warner Bros. has Red Riding Hood coming out March 11, and the studio just set Kieran and Michele Mulroney to write a script tackling Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
While no one has made any bids, the Peter Pan package is attractive
Ray, who wrote and directed Shattered Glass and Breach, is one of the town’s more respected writers. Repped by CAA and Management 360, he recently wrote the adaptation of The Hunger Games for Lionsgate, is adapting Secreto as a directing vehicle, and has the Richard Phillips/Somali pirates story in development at Columbia.

i don't remember peter pan being so wooden :wow:

Liam Neeson should play his mentor and then screw him over later on in overthrowing the corrupt Neverland. Peter then defeats him and learns to do what is neccessary. He has finally minded his surroundings.

Then in the sequel Captain Hook comes in as a force of anarchy and blows up Wendy, scarring Thud Butt in the process, leading into a third film.

I suddenly understand how sad it is that orphange lost control over the rights to Pan.

I'm not against another iteration of Peter Pan -- for me, the character never gets tiring and a new iteration is fun to see. But I put my foot down on Tatum playing a key role in the film.

Oh man I can't wait. This is going to be hi-laaaarious.

I will rent this when its straight to dvd...just for teh lulz

That sounds pretty good, I hope they go that route before somebody else steals the idea.

Peter Pan Begins,Sound like it could be a great spoof flick in the right hands.

This is going to be a cinematic holocaust of epic proportions...

maybe Tatum is playing an older Pan and re-telling his past? I'm not sure. The story idea has to be really good for it to work. I hope it's not just a rip off of Hook.

is'nt the point of the character peter pan is he never wants get old thats why he stays in never land to stay as a child?

Tatum is in his 30's lol

Why not Peter Pan Returns... or Peter Pan Forever....

Wow that sounds....horrendous.

We've seen Peter Pan done good and proper (the 2004 film)....which bombed. We've seen Peter Pan reimagined as an adult as a fairy tale/allegory for growing up (Speilberg's underrated Hook). We've even seen a fictionalized biopic on the author of the play turned Oscar Bait (Finding Neverland). There is not a whole lot left to be done with the property for modern audiences. And if they think they can turn Pan into a 20-something Batman character.... :funny:

Their money to lose. And for the record the article is right. Red Riding Hood (with the originally cheesy/obviously stolen title of the The Girl With the Red Riding Hood) is the first in a slew of Twilight-like studio cash-grabs. Somehow I don't think fairy tales are the new superhero/sparkly vampire craze. At least I hope not.

The Pan Knight!
or or or
The Pan Rises!

P.S. What is with these knock-off titles?

Peter Pan Begins?
The Girl with the Red Riding Hood (I know they changed it, but c'mon)?
-Jack the Giant Slayer (et tu, Buffy?)

Next: Sleeping Beauty Rises: Breaking Dawn starring Miley Cyrus. Would not surprise me.

If i want to laugh, I'll catch Hangover 2. But if I want to laaaaaaugh, I might watch this.

I was hearing over the radio of a live action version of The Hunchback Of Notredame too, it seems that whatever fairy tale childrens book that Disney has done in animation is now being re-done by other studios in live action.

I want The Lion King: Revenge of the Scar :o
