(Ok, I did NOT see a thread on this film, and I searched twice. Hopefully I didn't make another duplicate blunder :o)

Directed by P.J. Hogan, this live-action version of Peter Pan includes actors such as Jason Isaacs, Jeremy Sumpter, Olivia Williams, blah blah blah.

I bought this movie on a whim this weekend after talking about Hook on the Hype, and watched it tonight. It's one of those films that totally went under my radar when it originally came out, and as a Peter Pan fan, I decided to just go ahead and buy it. I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable film

Peter Pan turned out to be one of those movies where it was pretty much everything I could have hoped it to be. The fantastic element to the film was well-done and consistent...the set as well as the costumes were great. It's one of the few films where I really loved the casting, too. For the most part, this version really stayed true to J.M. Barrie's play, which was great. I've always loved the Peter Pan story, but wasn't a huge fan of the Disney adaptation, so it was nice to see the story so well acted out.

I also enjoyed the Peter/Wendy romance a lot. Jeremy Sumpter and Rachel Hurd-Wood had some serious chemistry going on for their age. I was very pleased to see their romance as such a prominent aspect of the story, because I've always found it to be frustrating/tragic but an essential plot detail.

Gripes:
Boo to whoever thought it'd be a good idea to try and include a lot of CGI. When it comes to flying, using soley wires would have looked best. The CGI flying was obvious and looked fake.

Tinkerbell was also waaay too computer-animated. It looked corny at times.

Didnt like it much sorry ATP.

Haha, why are you apologizing to ME? I didn't make the movie :oldrazz:

You seemed to slightly enjoy it. lol I Loved Hook in this movie but not better than Hoffman.

I loved it, but that doesn't mean you have to, silly! I liked this representation of Captain Hook because it was very different compared to others...made him so dark but realistic in terms of emotion.

I really liked it. I still don't own the DVD though.

I didnt want to hurt feelings. lol Im a nice guy.

Aw, that's sweet. Don't worry, I'm not one of those people who gets upset if someone has a different opinion from me. Takes a lot more than that to hurt my feelings! I actually enjoy talking to people who hate things that I enjoy...usually produces an interesting discussion

I loved this movie. Good family flicks are very hard to come by these days. :D:up:

I have it on dvd, would like to have a copy on blu-ray. This movie definitely went under the radar because it was a fantasy film being released at the same time as Return of the King. But Peter Pan has always been one of my favorite stories and I'm a big fan of JM Barrie. Like you Pickles, I'm not a huge fan of Walt Disney's Peter Pan. It was a fine film but far from his best. This film had an amazing score, I absolutely love the main theme(Flying by Newton Howard) and mostly, it was so gorgeous to look at. The sky of London had such an incredible painterly feel to them. All of Never Never Land was amazing. And this movie was very close to the book, even improving in subtle areas.

The entire cast was terrific. I remember seeing this for the first time a few years ago and was shocked when they showed Hook's amputated arm. I knew from that very moment that it would be a much darker take on Captain Hook than what Steven Spielberg gave us. And I absolutely adore what Dustin Hoffman did, pretty playful and sinister. He was hammy but it was part of his dark charm. But Lucius Malfoy...I mean Jason Isaacs played it incredibly straight laced and was perfect.

Hoffman was far more entertaining to me, being comical, dark, and ultimately sad. I like Isaacs, but he played more of a stock bad guy than the Captain himself, though I know his version was written more faithfully to Barrie's original description, with the hook on the right hand, blue eyes and whatnot.

went on my first date with to movie.

Oh I will always love what Hoffman did, he's the Hook I grew up with and when I think of the Captain he's probably still the first image that comes to mind. Hoffman was very unique I feel...and unique to that very film whereas Isaac's character felt as if he could have been an actual nasty pirate during 1905.

As i said, I love Hook. My biggest if only real big problem with it is just the timeline which made no sense because they tried to make both Peter Pan and James Barrie real people and it just didn't jive with the continuity at all.

It makes sense to me that Barrie was simply recording young Wendy and her brothers' adventures with Peter, which happened to all be true.

I grew up with Hook, so I preferred Speilberg's film...but if I had to be objective this was the better movie. This was a pretty near-perfect adaptation of the Peter Pan story. I have no idea why it bombed at the box office (I didn't see it until it came on HBO), but this movie had everything....good acting, a feel of mischevous magic, and that something special.

Too bad, nobody saw it. I thought it blew the Disney cartoon out of the water and is a better movie than Hook. But nostalgia makes Hook more enjoyable for me.

Jeremy Sumpter as Peter Pan wasn't very good in this film, his lisp was distracting as well. The scene where everyone was saying they believe in fairies was a bit silly. It's like they were trying to translate the play where Peter asks everyone in the audience if they believe in fairies they need to clap their hands. In a film having Peter asking everyone to clap their hands in a movie audience would of been weird. Having Mr. Darling saying I believe in fairies during a board room meeting was a little to weird. Jason Isaacs Hook was was pretty good. The thing that threw me off with the film was how the sets and lighting looked like a stage play, that it didn't look like a real world. They were trying to have it have the look of the original stage play, with the stage lighting and set construction, but I'd love to see a Peter Pan movie where it looked like a real place.

I liked the girl who played Tinkerbell. It was a good film , got corny at the end but it's forgivable.

I saw this movie when it came out...but I barely remember anything about it. The only thing that sticks out is the scene where the fairies die.

I liked this movie when I watched it but I haven't seen it since. I need to watch it again to see if it holds up.

i liked it cause it introduced me to coldplay
i don't remember if "clocks" was in the actual movie or not but it was on all the ads

I love this movie. The animated one is still better though.

i think a Peter Pan live action big budget movie should be for all ages. for kids and adults.the 2003 movie was IMO way to much for kids.

Hook was a more entertaining peter pan story for everyone.
