Comics Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man Returns!

Some really inspiring things and also worrisome things in those quotes.

Still tempering expectations, but glad to see Marvel doing another (Parker-led) Spider-title.

I think a lot of the worrisome parts of what Zdarsky says is just his left-field humor. It's difficult to take those things seriously cause I know the type of person that he is and he's just having fun being an oddball. However, his humor is a great asset though and could prove to be something that helps set this title apart from the main book even if much of the status quo is intact.

I'm still not sure what to think yet, even if I am looking forward to it. The biggest draw for me at this point is that we have Kubert on art and someone, anyone not named Slott writing the story. I'd love to have another Spidey title outside of S/D and RYV to pick up and enjoy.

^ Beautiful. I'm assuming this is Kubert? Looks like his work--he draws an excellent Spidey. My only nitpick is I'm still not crazy about the 'zapped by electricity' front spider logo.

Yup. :woot:

Not crazy about the logo either but I guess it has to stay if its set in the main universe.

Love what I'm seeing and hearing so far. The logo doesn't concern me, I think the whole universe will be rebooted in the next few years anyway. Back to basics across the board. Nothing will be more stimulating to the imagination then that. I think Marvel is just prolonging the inevitable. It's coming, new blood all around.

Naw, that's Paolo Siquera's art from the FCBD story.:cwink:

Like those bright colors, Vulture design is a bit odd but happy to see the bright green nonetheless.

What's Vulture's bubble for? Mysterio-envy? :o

Of course it makes sense for an aerial combatant, just never had it before. Seems like a change to resemble the movie version more if anything.

Lots of good stuff for Spidey.

RYV, this (seemingly) and the Insomniac game. :awesome:

That panel is beautiful!
Looks like Vulture is everywhere, thank you Homecoming?

Yeah everything is pretty great so far! Spidey was pretty good too. Now it would be nice to have a release date for "Spider-manPS4".

I'm just going to remain cautiously optimistic that that was indeed a joke. Especially when Costa said this:

He compared the reunion of Eddie Brock and Venom to Mary Jane and Peter Parker - but they're not getting back together, are they? No one on the panel addressed the comparison. That was the second mention of Peter and MJ in the panel.

I want to believe. :argh:

Well according to Slott, they aren't getting back together. Here's what he had to say yesterday at CBR.com:

I am writing the core Spider-Man title: ASM.

I will still be writing the core Spider-Man title after Secret Empire and into the Legacy era.

OMD is not getting reversed.

The marriage is not getting reinstated.

Peter and MJ can get back together as a couple. That is a possibility that is not off the table. But if they did (and that's a big "if"), they would not be back together as man and wife.

There. I don't think I can be any clearer than that.

Legacy Era?

And now we know Spectacular Spider-Man will be nothing more than a filler book where noting of importance will ever happen.

At least in the 80s and 90s shi7 that happened in the other titles had meaning.

Pretty much it means because dan is writing, everything has to go through him.
That really sucks and will hinder any real writer's imagination and ideas.

Ugh. That's a shame.

Legacy Era?

Marvel's latest attempt at trying to win back former fans.

Sucky that Zdarsky is going to be so limited, and I'm not even sure how the timeline will work.

Exactly. The MAIN title has needed fresh blood for a while now.

It's clearly their attempt to copy the success of DC's Rebirth initiative, but I don't get the impression that they have a very clear understanding as to why Rebirth has gone over so well.

Oh well, at least if this ends up failing, it'll probably lead to some long-overdue dismissals finally happening at Marvel, and you probably already know who I'm referring to.

That I do. Here's hoping it failing leads to Marvel getting a swift kick in the backside, although I feel like Marvel has its head up its own butt and will probably blame something else rather than themselves. Kinda how they sort of blamed the fans for not wanting their books because they didn't want diversity or something. Fans just want good stories with good characters, bottom line.

Bendis, Quesada and Slott
Who else needs to go?

The latter two especially. I don't mind Bendis as much but I can definitely see why he gets the rep he does at times.

With Marvel returning to the old numbering, issue #9 of this series would be #300. :yay:

Bendis, Quesada and Slott
Who else needs to go?

Tom Brevoort. He might be one of the most likely actually, because he's always been a major advocate for the BS philosophy that making customers angry leads to better sales; a philosophy that clearly isn't working out so much in Marvel's favor anymore.

Zdarsky is known to have a very off-the-wall wacky sort of humor. In the same panel he talked about getting rid of all of Spidey's villains and just have him fighting buildings. lol. You can't take what he says seriously.

That said, I'm willing to bet MJ will fall into the 'good friend but not a long term commitment' status in this book. It's a shame that OMD has lasted this long.

Yeah, Marvel still doesn't seem to get the whole 'quality vs gimmicks' ideal when it comes to selling books. Though I certainly agree that they need a change in the offices and in the writing dept. Slott has worn out his welcome.

Well it looks like you might be right:

Now while I'd be fine with Pete and MJ just becoming BFF's again (like they were before all that Superior mess started) I hope they don't just ignore everything that's happened over the past few years (such as MJ cutting him out of her life and then expressing bitterness and disappointment towards him when she sees him again). Because like I said before, if Peter just starts acting all buddy-buddy towards her again without calling her out on this, he'll be a huge sucker (even more than he already is).
