Ok, was just thinking about something.

The Chamelion, under the orders of the (deceased) Harry Osborn created the LMD's of Parker's Parents.

Well, now that Harry didn't really die, does that mean that the replica parents never existed?
Also Aunt May (I don't care - it was her) wouldnt have had her stroke.

If they never existed, then he never went nuts-o, and would've had a better relationship with Ben Reilly at the begining of the 90's Clone Saga.

I brought up the same issue in the OMD discussion thread a couple weeks ago:

And what about the Fake Mary and Richard Parkers? If Harry still hates Spidey and loves Peter but doesn't know they're the same person, what would be his reasoning for creating the fake Parents?

The OMD thread was too long to read every post.
Sorry.

Goes to show though, that we know the history of the character better than the ones actually working on it.

Oh, I wasn't meaning my post to sound like "Pft. I already thought of it way before you."

I meant it as an agreement, and as something that I also saw as a continuity error.

But Harry was alive when he gave those replicas to the Chameleon... and it's been said that Harry once was a Green Goblin, so those stories are still valid... the only difference being that Harry survived the ambulance ride home at the end of Spec. #200.

These conversations reminf me of "what would happen if time travel were possible" questions. They can really make a person crazy. "If I go back in time and kill my grandfather as a kid, can I go back in time and kill my grandfather?"

I understand that, but we're to believe that Harry has never known that Peter Parker was Spider-Man. And if that's so, what would be his motivation about tormenting his best friend with fake parents if he is wanting to torment Spider-Man?

Good GOD I hope that gets erased.

Harry dying was dumb to begin with, but it was well done and I consider Spec. 200 to be a classic...

... which is why it's absolutely mouth foaming ridiculous that they tarnished Harry with that final "Gotcha".

From what I gather that never happened because there was never a spider-clone to begin with since anyclone would have made people aware the peter parker=spider-man. So no Jackal, no spider-clones, no gwen clones either, and no fake parents.

Unless it's that this happened and people knew but then the devil made everyone forget like with the unmasking thing. BTW is there no one in the MU that finds the unmasking thing odd? None of those front line reporters want to know what the @uck is up with that. Doc Strange, Pete's teammate, also apparently doesn't find this obvious mystical anamoly worth bothering to look into either, even though they have a history of being friends. It's a minor point, but apparently no one gives a damn about why everyone's minds were clearly messed with.

Yes on the second point... the people that have learned Spidey's ID over the years did indeed happen, but those memories have been erased.

So the Clone Saga did happen as well as the Peter's parents/robots storyline...

:yay:

As far as your second point goes... while I would agree with you, if you have forgotten something and your memory of remembering it is erased, how would you even know that you once knew it?

Basically, how could Strange know that he forgot something if he doesn't remember ever knowing it?

Wrong. He did know, at one point, that Peter was Spider-Man, he just doesn't know now nor does he ever remember knowing Spidey's identity. It's not as if everyone is going "Yesterday I knew who Spider-Man was, but today I don't", but rather that they don't remember ever knowing who Spider-Man was.

What a wasteful mess they just HAD to make here with this continuity alteration...sheesh. Who knows WHAT did or didn't happen now, or if it happened and if so, WHY?

And if anything did happen the same, no one remembers it. Or they can remember parts of things, but can't really remember it all.

Maybe the Pete that dealt his wife ad the world's minds to satan was a REPLICANT.

Gotcha, I read that recap page but the whole who knows pete's identity thing didn't make sense. I thought you're explanation was right, but then Slott said that "I'm with stupid" was unmade because of OMD so I'm.... well I'm still pretty confused.

The other side to consider is since some of characters previous actions were motivated solely by knowing who pete really was, wouldn't there altered memories now have holes? They'd remember doing something, but not why they did it. That would freak me out.

I guess what I was saying is the general line is they remember that Spider-Man did unmask or something to that effect but they can't remember what happened. I'd think JJJ and a few others would try and get to the bottom of that, and guy's like strange (pete's friend and teammate) that are almost never effected by these things or at least are aware someone mucked with the process never caught on. (the sentry is a good point to bring up here except mental powers were used for this, anything mystical going on would be sending up flags for the good doctor) I don't really expect an answer on this, just food for thought.

Yeah... until (or if) we get explanations on certain things, we're all just shooting in the dark at this point...

:csad:

Way i see it.

Harry knew who Peter was and created the parents, Harry then suffered from the same memory blocks as his father. Peter protects his best friend by stripping him of the costume, the Goblen is announced as dead. So the Chamelon goes about his business.

Man, more people screwing with Wolverine's memories, man will he be pissed.

Ok, so does Peter even remember that HE himself unmasked?

As far as i can tell, Pete is the only person in the world who DOESN"T know he unmasked. Otherwise, stuff doesn't make sense. (not that it does)

Wouldn't mind if this story got swept away. For me, this is where Spider-Man "jumped the shark."

The whole idea was silly (I also think Pete's parents being spies goes against the original character to begin with, but that's another story). And that led to the whole, I'm the Spider, Peter Parker no more, brooding, Batman-like stuff (remember this is when everyone was into the whole Dark Knight thing with Batman). That led into the clone saga, then into Gathering of the Five, and re-boot, and spider totems, sins past, the other, unmasking, OMD . . .

It's like the Journey song says:

". . . it goes on and on and on and on . . ."

It makes me wonder why I still collect . . .

So let me get this straight People know that Spidey unmasked, but they still don't remember who was under the mask? And what about tapes, TiVo? Pictures? So did Mephisto retcon those too?

-"Hey Doug, Do you still got the tape where Spidey unmasks himself to the public? For some reason I can't seem to remember who he was..."
-"Hmmm! Now that you mention it I don't remember either... I think I've got it somewhere around here..."
*Inserts tape on VCR*
"WTF!? Hannah Montana!? I think My little girl recorded something over it... Wai! I still got it TiVo'ed"
-"Seriously Doug, You've ****** scared me..."
-"Dangflabbit! Dancing with the Stars?! Honey did you mess with the TiVo?!"
-"I don't know how it works, ask Doug Jr.?"
-"JUNIOR!!!!!"
-"I Heard you dad! i'm trying to look for the video on YouTube... The Hell?! It's gone!!!"
So did something like this happen in every household across the globe? (on the 616)

Don't you know? In this Joe Q new reality, video and film don't exist! Neither does the internet, so no YouTube! And no whiny fan-boys complaining on message boards! It's a Brand New Day!

They never shoulda re-booted it.
The end of The Final Adventure/Gathering of Five should have been the end of it.

Just let him appear in other titles.
