Rise of the Silver Surfer PG Rating: DISCUSSION

The profanity level doesn't matter as well, as a PG movie can technically get away with as many hells, damns, asses, and pisses as they want.

Now, I really don't have anything against a PG rating and I'm fine with it but this seems to be more and more on an animated film level. PG rating, 92 minute runtime...maybe F4 would have worked better as an animated film to begin with.

^ It should be a movie for kids too. No doubt about that.

I believe National Treasure was also PG which helped it rake in a huge box office and it was a great film too.

THE INCREDIBLES,the first 3 HARRY POTTER movies, the first 2 SUPERMAN movies, and the first 5 STAR WARS movies were also rated PG and they all made LOTS of money at the box office.

Forgot about the Potters. Those are very high quality movies, also.

^ I'm with you Blade. I realize the first 3 Star Wars films were before PG-13 but at the time they were PG and I'll never forget those moments. Star Wars to me is still PG material as is Return of the Jedi. Empire had it's dark moments as did chapter 3.

Fox is catering towards the widest possible audience and fortunately this material should. It's not like a PG Alien film. The runtime is on the short end but it's not too short. That also is something to appeal to the younger crowd while not being unreasonably short. Better for repeat viewings and with the crowded marketplace the more showings they fit in the better. Hell look at the competition FF faces over the next 30 days from it's release while August is barren mostly.

August hasn't been barren for a while now. A lot of sleeper hits are placed in August, and they clean up. Rush Hour 3 will be the winner in that regard.

The rating is not what held back Episodes I and II. Lucas, the acting, and scripts did.

There is no reason this can't work PG. PG is not indicative of quality, nor is any rating. Script, acting, direction, etc. however, are.

Right, PG is not an issue. We are just nervous about other things that is all. I love that it is PG.

I have nothing against the children. Gonna get me a full quiver some day.

I hate sitting next to them, though. I actually had to tell this kids mother to quiet there kid when I went to see The Hulk. Darn kid would not shut up for AN HOUR!!!

Love my nieces to death, but I hate kids at movies.

Fox is always trying to make the most they can, regardless of quality, which can be seen with the PG rating and 92 minute runtime. They are doing the same thing with Die Hard. And I have to disagree about the runtime, 92 minutes is severely close to unreasonably short. I think Fox is just trying to secure a huge opening weekend because they know that after that it will drop like a rock considering every week there is a new film. Fox is going to want an 80 million dollar opening, that way all it will need is a 2.5 multiplier to get to 200 million, and actually the bigger the opening the better because the multiplier is not going to be good.

A 92 minute PG rated movie? They might as well have made this animated.

I don't really care either way around kids at movies... just got used to it.

And why not animated? It's cooler, imo, to have it be live action. You lose ALOT with animated films. I know alot of people like them, but you definitely lose the sense of having the actual actors there.

Don't get me wrong, I like animated... but, if a film can be live action- make it live action!

I actually think these films would have been better as animated films, you can do a lot more with a smaller budget, it would have been perfect for Fox. Smaller budget, short runtime, PG rating, extra kiddy friendly...I'm surprised they didn't do it that way.

^ Live action is better. You've got to be kidding after seeing the Silver Surfer in action Live action, the torch flying, etc...live action is the way to go.

Also, all through TMNT- the ONLY thing that I could think while watching it was, "this film would have been AMAZING if it was in live action." Seriously, I kept on thinking that throughout the entire film.

It's hard to look up to an animated character the same way as you can to a live action character. You can relate to Live action much better it makes it seem real and it's easier to suspend disbelief.

Animated movies should only be for non-human characters. I think human characters, or humanoids like the Surfer, are best done with real human emotion. Do robots, raccoons, etc. in cartoons (this includes turtles...I thought TMNT had superb animation), and do humans on live.

I don't know, I thought The Incredibles was probably the best comic book film I've seen and that was animated...and around 2 hours. I just think with animation you are able to do everything on a bigger scale with a lesser budget. I mean, F4-2 already has a lot in common with an animated film so I mean, they should have made it animated from the start...and I think F4 would have made a good transition from comic to a computer animated film...especially if they got talented artists to take on the project.

Everything about the Incredibles was good, except the animation. I didn't like how the characters looked.

Incredibles was a great animated movie though a major ripoff of the Fantastic Four with zero credit the franchise. Still I loved it.

I did too. It was an awesome movie. I just didn't like how the characters looked.

Exactly, but it's kind of sad that an imitation of F4 actually was better than the F4 franchise so far.

And I thought the animation was amazing, they went for a certain look and I thought it translated well.
