My point is that she's a pilot, so's Hal Jordan. That's where the similarities end. She's as much of a Hal Jordan clone as War Machine is.
Carol also does have a unique rogue's gallery. If anything, the X-Men stole Deathbird and Mystique from her although Deathbird still remains a Captain marvel enemy. She also has Moonstone, Ghazi Rashid, Doomsday Man, Monica Rappaccini, Cru, The Brood, Yon-Rogg, Warren Traveler, Warbird, Commander Steigan of the Haffenseye and Grace Valentine. She also fights MODOK from time to time but MODOK also fight Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk.
That's still a pretty large rogues gallery. Granted, a lot of these villains are underdeveloped since Carol's only had a consistent solo title since 2005 but it's still about as developed as Moon Knight's.
And as far as supporting characters go, Sarah Day is a big one who's exclusive to her. Same with her cat Chewie, Kamala Khan, and her neighbors. That's in addition to potential for cameos from War Machine and Jessica Jones. She's plenty developed.
Monica has had all of TWO solo issues. Two. As far as a unique supporting cast goes, she has NO unique rogues. NONE. She has no supporting cast other than the Avengers or Nextwave, the latter of which can't be done because Tabitha Smith is part of Fox's X-Men license. Nextwave would still be an ensemble and not a solo film. Plus, she's Spectrum now. Nobody calls her Captain Marvel anymore.
And for the record, Carol is the only female solo character who Marvel can put up on the big screen. Jessica Jones is going to TV. Misty Knight will probably be a supporting character on Iron Fist. Elektra will probably be a supporting character on Daredevil. Even among Black Widow and She-Hulk, both of those would be better off as TV shows since I can see them done on a smaller budget and their stories just seem to work better on TV with She-Hulk's legal drama and Black Widow bound to have a crapton of cliffhangers, I just can't see them being big screen solo films.
She's a pilot, yes, with a typical Top Gun Maverick pilot personality, who got her powers of flight and energy manipulation from a dying alien from whom she took her name. It's the same personality on the same journey with the same abilities. Not so much with War Machine... like... at all.
Now please don't take my statements as saying Carol has zero development or that Monica should be "Captain Marvel," but as you look at her villains, can you make a movie out of her fighting and evil sorcerer, adding Dr. Strange to the people she's redundant with. It's not just that they're undeveloped... they products of her redundant theme, so one of her villains comes from a military POW story that Cap would be more at home in. Several are X-Men villains, and several are Mar-Vell's villains. It's a gallery, but it's not very good, in terms of creating a unique story. But yes, her alien enemies and magical sorcerers have different names than the alien heroes' alien enemies and the magical heroes' magical enemies.
Sarah Day and Chewie are awesome unique characters I love, btw. Good point. But no, The X-Men did no steal Mystique from her, the X-Men made Ms. Marvel a relevant character and gave her a setting when she had none. When she left them to go be an Avenger, they kept their stuff, including the Chris Claremont created Mystique.
As you learn about the character's history, you see Monica actually does have unique villains in Brazillian crime lord Kristina Ramos and is the original foe of super strong Powderkeg, as well as origin story villains Ernesto Ramirez and Felipe Picaro, more products of her unique harbor patrol/dimensional energy/mad scientist cartels theme. So while I agree that Blackout and Moonstone are not unique rogues they are also not ones that fit better going against other superheroes, which says a lot about her as a unique character. And she also has unique supporting cast, even in her TWO solo issues. Think about the list you just gave for a character with two solo series, and then look at this one character who, with only two solo issues has two named parents with personalities, coworkers in Captain Ron Morgan, partner John Audain, family friends in Andre LeClaire in addition to love interests in the brothers Derek and Duane Freeman (IKR!), in *addition* to the Nextwave supporting cast and villains being unique to her amongst Avengers and potential solo heroes.
Carol is certainly the one pushed the most, but she is not the only one who can be shot on film, or the only one Feige and co have talked about. Tigra, Spectrum, Crystal, Firestar, Arachne and perhaps a couple others are all at least as full of potential as Captain Marvel and none of the others would be referred to a lesser female version of a male character. Yes, she's a strong, brave, admirable, respectable hero. So is Hal Jordan though...
