Phase 3 Release Schedule Finalized

July 17, 2015- Ant-Man
May 6, 2016- Captain America 3
July 8, 2016- Dr. Strange
May 5, 2017- Thor 3
July 28, 2017- Black Panther
November, 2017- Indestructible Hulk
May 4, 2018- Iron Man 4
July 6, 2018- The Inhumans
November 2, 2018- Guardians of the Galaxy 2
May 3, 2019- The Avengers 3

This schedule hits a couple of check marks:

- The Big 3 and Avengers get the May date, ensuring maximum box office receipts (I imagine $800 M for Thor and Cap, $1.3 for Iron Man, and up to $2 Billion for Avengers 2 with the expanding Chinese Market.)
- All six phase 1-2 properties get sequels.
- Each year gets a new property (Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, The Inhumans.)
- The Last 3 films can link together into a giant cosmic storyline of sorts.

Final notes: If Downey can't be cajoled into Iron Man 4, Indestructible Hulk to 2018, and put a Captain Marvel or Black Widow movie in November 2017.

I agree with your predictions but I think that the Inhumans are not likely in the moment. I will swap Inhumans with Ms. Marvel.

We've seen nothing indicating either that A) Kevin Feige has given up on Inhumans or B) that Kevin Feige is particularly keen on a Ms. Marvel film.

I think it's wishful thinking driving these Ms Marvel predictions.

The article in question listed Iron Man 4 after Avengers 3. I see Iron Man skipping a phase like Hulk did. Feige also stated that Black Widow isn't happening until Captain Marvel has already hit theaters. I don't see either of of these in Phase 3 but Iron Man 4 will certainly be part of Phase 4 and a Black Widow film or TV show will also be an obvious choice for Phase 4.

Now if you want a schedule for Phase 4, here's what I'd do

2019
Ghost Rider (since he wasn't part of Avengers 3)
Darkhawk (since he wasn't in Avengers 3 either)

2020
Iron Man 4
Inhumans 2
Blade

2021
Thor 4
Captain America 4
Black Widow
Doctor Strange 2

2022
Hulk 3
Captain Marvel 2
Ant-Man 2
Black Panther 2

2023
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (since they won't cross over with the Avengers in this phase)
Avengers 4

Feige said the plan was to get up to four films a year. Phase 1 started at 1 film per year but moved up to 2 in 2011. Phase 2 stuck with 2 the whole way. Phase 3 is giving us three films halfway through. Phase 4 would realistically move up to four films by it's halfway point. Keep in mind that Avengers 4 may even split into two films with the Mighty Avengers fighting Namor and the West Coast Avengers handling Kang. This is also every single bankable property that Marvel has that needs more than a TV budget.

As far as what can be done on TV, Runaways, She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Punisher and Hawkeye can all be made into TV series. More importantly, these properties are all incredibly different from one another. She-Hulk would be a comedy. Runaways would be a teen drama like the OC. Moon Knight would be a show like Twin Peaks or The Leftovers that has a mindbending cliffhanger at the end of every episode. Punisher would just be all out action. Finally, Hawkeye would be an Avenger with his own TV show that would mix the action of Moon Knight and Punisher with the humor of She-Hulk. These five shows would be able to run concurrently with Daredevil, Agents of Shield and Heroes for Hire. (It just makes sense to put Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist together in one show after the first season.)

Power Pack would also be a Disney animated film that would tie into whatever cartoons are being aired at the time.

So by 2024, the House of Ideas will have run out of ideas with the only bankable property left being Thunderbolts. Keep in mind that by this time, I can see Marvel buying back the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man since people will either get tired of CBMs which will only leave Marvel Studios making them or Marvel Studios will have more money than they know what to do with so they'll buy both of these back because they can and then launch a Spider-Man TV show set in the MCU along with a Fantastic Four film reboot. That along with making a trade for Fox to have the live-action X-Men TV rights in exchange for the Shi'Ar since I feel like Fox won't sell the X-Men back until the mid-2030s since I posted in the X-Men forums that Fox's new timeline can have them making X-Men and X-Force films along with Wolverine and Deadpool films for another two decades before they've run out of storylines, none of which involve the Shi'Ar.

So ten years from now, buy back two of the three properties you lease. Then if Fox's X-Men movies start sucking again, try to buy them back as well or see if there's a way to get both studios to collaborate with a Secret Wars film that would bring the X-Men into the MCU continuity.

Mmm, there's a lot of talk about a Ms. Marvel movie lately. So I think BP and MM are the most likely candidates. If not, I think a BW movie might happen.

I also forgot Namor for Phase 5 as a solo series. So there would be 2 villain series, Thunderbolts as a villain team while Namor is a solo antihero. The latter would be an Avenger after being the big bad of Phase 4.

You're correct aside from talk of a Black Widow film which has been stated along with War Machine to not be in production.

I wouldn't be sure about the last release date being the end of phase 3.

Could be they're just staking release dates as far into the future as they can, which is about five years. Could be that Avengers 3 comes out may 2018, like previously suspected, and the later dates are for Phase 4.

They need a strong female lead character. Captain Marvel is everything they need to lead a franchise. Black Widow is too morally grey for Marvel's first female lead.

I hope the May 2019 slot is Avengers and not the 2018 slot.

People should understand that characters / properties like Ghostrider, The Punisher, Moon Knight, Etc. will be put out first thru the NETFLIX series and IF they are successful series then that is the time to promote them into films.

Yes, the punisher can be shoot straight to film BUT the character needs justice so I think marvel will test the waters for these kind of characters thru netflix where they have more freedom to exploit the character's original tone. Rated-R and others, they will be tested first on small scale then move on to larger scale.

Note: The Punisher, Ghostrider, Etc. had left bad taste at the General Audience that is why Marvel will flesh them out first in their own little world (no-pn intended on netflix). That is the main reason why Daredevil is going to be made thru netflix.

A perfect medium for testing the waters, expanding the MCU more and into small screen, hitting 3 birds with one stone.

Main reason eh? I don't buy that. I think Daredevil has the perfect balance of popularity and awareness in general to lead the new line up of Shows into greater success. If this was just Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist the hype would not be as strong for the net flix shows. There's a very good reason he's being released first to lead this huge TV deal. And it's not because Marvel isn't confident that people won't be interested cause of the last film.

A MCU connected Daredevil theatrical release would still be huge. Elektra, Bullseye and Kingpin are extremely legit and well known characters themselves. The main thing here imo is that all these netflix characters fit very well together and they will have more time to shine here then they would in an already packed Avengers films. More time and a new connected section of the Marvel world= $$$$.

Unless GOTG does weakly in the box office (highly doubtful), I think its more realistic that MCU taps GOTG 2 to get a 2017 slot. I think they are going to make boat loads of cash with that one, and put it in high gear. Kinda like they had no initial intentions of making IM2 before AVENGERS, but the ticket receipts were just too damn good to pass up. I have not heard much that makes me hopeful for a HULK 2 being in development yet, just fan wishing.

I see almost everyone is naming a Ms Marvel movie, but Im afraid Marvel is not interested in her yet :(

^^ Hollywood Reporter said they have a script in place, Feige seems up for it

Ghost Rider would cost too much for a TV show's budget. Both he and his villains require a LOT of CGI.

Not if you go with practical effects!

Interesting how Marvel has got May on lockdown for the next 5 years.

Its crazy how far in advance these things are geting planned out now. I'd be 30 by May 3,2019. Might be married with a kid by then..lol

Iron Man 4 will be in one of those May dates. No way does Marvel/Disney go a phase with just one appearance of Iron Man.

I'm sure they want two billion dollar films in their phase and can give RDJ a truckload of money, backend deals, cars and a small island for him to return, and it wouldn't even hurt Disney's wallet one bit.

is this a recent article? could u post the link?

Here

It was from May of last year, and supposedly the script was written as part of the program that Nicole Perlman's GotG script was originally part of, before it was picked by Marvel to be a movie and Gunn was hired. They definitely know what they'd do with the character.

I will say this: I firmly believe that if Marvel doesnt announce Black Panther or Ms Marvel/Black Widow(which I think would be a stupid idea)/some other female hero that it will show that Marvel is still afraid of black/female led movies.

With GOTG looking to light the box office up, and that has talking trees and racoons, I think it proves that Marvel basically prints money and I dont think they should worry too much about people shying away from a movie with a black/female hero as the lead

I think we may see the latter as Joss Whedon says here:
