Someone was a fan of Art Attack.

Jealous of traces? Never.
They're just higher quality Greg Land.
I didn't say it wasn't art. It's equivalent to filtering pics on instagram. I don't need to be better to dismiss a tracing job.My thought has always been....unless you can do better, don't dismiss a piece of art as not "art" (and then even if you can do better, why be "that guy" and complain about someone else's art) .....because I have been drawing/painting for over 50 years and have never made anything that looked as good as that guy's "tracings".
I've looked it up and it's kind of bull**** to me.Everyone should go look up what Neal Adams has to say about tracing.

It was precise because he traced it....I concur. There was a guy yrs ago in the fan-art section who would take a photo and trace the basic outline in ink and then color the rest in pencil. This dudes shading techniques were unreal. I couldn't be that precise to save my life.

Then show your work or shut up.I didn't say it wasn't art. It's equivalent to filtering pics on instagram. I don't need to be better to dismiss a tracing job.
And you probably never made anything as good in 50 years, because you didn't trace anything, you actually did the work yourself, instead of copying others and changing it ever so slightly.

There's a difference between photo referencing and direct tracing. Tracing is not anti-intellectual, and yes while it's possible to learn from it, it is the equivalent to training wheels on a bike; You may technically have balance, but it's those training wheels that are giving it balance, not you.
And tracers get absolutely no respect or positivity from me.
