Pirates is moving it's release date up so it can beat SM3

Michael Bay is known for crazy action, balls to the wall stuff, which a lot of people are into. The Island didn't do as well as they wanted, but it was more of a sci-fi thing with no big names.

This Could Be The End Of Spider-Man.

Didn't Superman Returns move it's release date to the night before the same way Pirates are doing now? I hope they get the same result :oldrazz:

Doesn't mean anything to me. Spidey 3 opened up here on a Tuesday, May 1st. And POTC3 (Potsee, heh heh) will open here on a Wednesday, May 23rd.

Uhm, fellas/gals, calm down, K? Yeah, God forbid a studio wanting to get the most money they can on opening weekend :) Besides, at this point they aren't counting it in with Friday totals, so what's the problem?

They are still counting it towards Opening Weekend which is cheating. But hey Disney wants to loose any diginity they have by doing this be my guess. They are just telling the public doing this move & the reason for it is that they have no faith in this movie for it to open as originally planned.

Transformers will suck. Main reason ? Michael Bay. His last movie The Island bombed. I've seen the trailer. All action no substance. Harry Potter ? Shoe in. Same with the Simpsons.
Well I don't know how it did at the box office, but The Island was a great movie.

Yeah, you keep believing that.

Yeah the second one makes a billion bucks and they have no faith in the third.

kk...

I will. To me it shows Disney has no faith in this movie for doing this move.

Its not that they have no faith in the movie, its that they (which is a valid concern) have no faith it can get to 149 with Shrek playing on 3 screens, and Spidey on 2 when it opens

weather it should count for the friday or not...I don't know, i can't really weigh how that should or would work and I don't really care to...but they can open a movie when ever they want and count it toward their weekend total if they feel it is the only way to bring back their bragging rights.

So says The Ultimate Pirates Movie Fan Boy

This is what the Disney Executives did when they heard about the Box Office news that Spider-Man kicked their asses

i dont remember this in the movie..... what this during the final battle???

Ahh....SM2 opened on a wednesday....Superman Returns on a wednesday....both counted for their weekend totals

....or you could continue being the only person who cares about this and cry some more

Have you seen The Island?
It's not really THAT bad.

Besides, what's with everyone thinking that Bay is THAT bad?
Bay definitely isn't the greatest, but his films are entertaining. It seems like the only other regular poster who enjoys Bay's films like I do is hunter.

I don't know.

Things happened with Spider-Man that aren't going to happen with Pirates.
Spider-Man 3 is still clear for making serious coin until next week when Shrek The Third opens (God forbid, this movie better be as good as the first). Even with that out, Spider-Man 3 will probably take #2. Then comes Pirates. It'll be huge, but I am still doubting just how huge it will be. Even if it is making an opening weekend like last year, it still has competition in it's next couple of weeks, as well as Shrek and Spider-Man 3 sucking it's titty.

It'll be interesting to see how things will go.

that's exatcly the point... disney "cheats" to get their opening weekend numbers higher, your average movie goer sees this, and thinks "wow, pirates broke such and such record, there must be something to it!"

it's a cheap trick. nothing more.

but spidey will still hold the record for the 3 day even if pirates does beat it by a few million...because technically you can't count 8'oclock shows, Spiderman started at midnite...that would make it Friday. A 4hr headstart is just cheap.

The date move was announced in the POTC:AWE thread and it's no big deal, all this will lead to is the two fanboy sides fighting.
