I enjoy 4 but it's defintely the weakest. I've only seen it like one and a half times. But not very rewatchabke for myself.

One of my problems with Pirates 4, is that I feel like Jack was "Coward Jack" the whole movie. I wanted the Sparrow who, in a "now or never" situation, would fight bravely. I feel like we didn't get any of that.

Well, he's not exactly a hero. Even though he's a good fighter, he'll take any chance to avoid the fight. He'll fight if he's cornered and his own precious hide is at risk, but even then he'll fight just to run away.

They were not the Inquisition. They were just the regular Spanish Army/Navy.

As well as Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, who have appeared in every movie, Pirates 5 will bring back Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, last seen doomed to a life as captain of the cursed ship the Flying Dutchman. "Will's son [Brenton Thwaites] has been hunting for him for years," says Bruckheimer. "That's the backbone of the story, the search for his father."
Getting in the way of that quest will be Javier Bardem's villain, Captain Salazar, who has some murky history with Jack. "You're not quite sure if he's dead or not," laughs Bruckheimer. "He's a little supernatural. He's on a real mission of vengeance for something Jack did to him when he was 18. He's a pretty nasty character." With an Oscar-winning villain and the biggest battles yet (Bruckheimer promises 13 ships facing off), this could be the Pirates to sail the franchise back onto the fun course it set 14 years ago. Okay, looking at that article, two things really stuck out to me:

First, the idea of focusing on recapturing COTBP's spirit, the focus on Will's kid tracking down his father, and the continued absence of Depp from the marketing, imply to me they may be trying to copy the formula from the first trilogy where Jack is a major character, but not the protagonist. Like how Will and Elizabeth were the main characters while Jack was, at best, the tritagonist. It allows Jack, Salazar, and possibly Barbossa to go back to playing the "Demi-God" roles where they're seemingly playing above the main couple but still capable of striking back.

Second, a 13 ship battle?!?! That sounds awesome, and like a return to the "pirate" part of Pirates of the Caribbean. I kind of think the more actual piracy is featured in a POTC film, the better it is. COTBP had 4 on-screen sequences where someone was using a boat to steal something, with at least three more mentioned in the backstory. DMC and AWE at least included piracy at their climaxes. OST had... A treasure hunt.

This sounds like Dead Man's Chest all over again. A young man wants to save his father who is forced to sail on the Flying Dutchman for all eternity. They just replaced Cutler Beckett with Salazar.

You know what's weird? I know there's that one dude with the glass eye in the first three films, but there's never been a major pirate character with an eyepatch.

But yes, I want more of the 'pirate'.

I think they gave him one at the end of the third one because they needed his eye for the court scene, and then he was nowhere to be found in the fourth one.

You sure you have the right villain? Because Salazar comes off more as a Davy Jones, especially considering he has a similar grudge against Sparrow.

You think a 13 ship battle is excessive? The Battle of Trafalgar involved 74 ships.

As far as fantasy film climaxes go, a 13 ship naval battle isnt even as big as the climactic space ship battles in ROTJ and Rogue One.

I also like the sound that Jack was 18 when he did whatever he did to Salazar. It means it won't be just a random part of his adult life but a very specific age. Makes you wonder the kind of person he was then and that part of his past that we don't know about is creeping up on him this time.

So far, they'e saying all the right things. I'll take it being like the original with a grain of salt, but all the ideas sound great.

It had to be changed for some countries. Copyright reasons or something. Same thing happened to the first Avengers film. In the UK it had to be retitled "Marvel's Avengers Assemble".
