PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN IS GETTING A COMIC BOOK SERIES

After 13 years, Disney’s cinematic Pirates of the Caribbean is finally getting its own comic book series based on the films inspired by the classic Disneyland ride.

Bleeding Cool has revealed that Joe Books will publish Pirates of the Caribbean # 1 this August, with Chris Schweizer and Joe Flood as the primary creative team. And judging from the description, the first issue will take place shortly after the events of the first film, The Curse of the Black Pearl.

“Return to the world of Captain Jack Sparrow in these untold tales of pirate adventure on the high seas! After squaring off with Captain Barbossa in a cursed duel, Jack is back on the run. And while Admiral Norrington may have given Jack a head start on his escape, the chase is now on.”

Thanks to Dead Man’s Chest, we know that Jack and his crew escaped and former Admiral Norrington fell on hard times. But there is a lingering mystery about what happened to Anamaria, a pirate played by Zoe Saldana who was absent from the sequel films. In the first movie, Anamaria mentioned that Jack once stole a ship from her, which could also be a story worth telling in the comic.

The Pirates films also suggested stories beyond what we saw on the big screen, including the shared history between Jack Sparrow and Lord Cutler Beckett, who literally branded Jack as a pirate when they were younger. Considering that the fifth movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is coming out in a year, there’s also room for the comic to explore what’s happened to the characters since On Stranger Tides.

Exploring Anamaria is worth doing. Because her absence was just so abrupt by DMC.

That always bothered me too, but at least Zoe Saldana went on to bigger and better things than the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels. As a side note, I can't believe it's been almost 13 years since the first one came out.

Anamaria could have been a great character in her own right and had a little arc of her own.

And yeah, it's a weird feeling. I remember seeing it when I was 11 in theaters. Seeing it before it became the thing it is now in a microcosm was a one of the better theater experiences I had.

I want heathen gods vs Spanish inquisition. Might be a bit heavy for Disney unless they go about it like they did the heavier stuff in Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The Spanish Inquisition tried to purge freemasonry from 1740 into the 1800s which is during Jack's lifetime. They could do a story involving Freemasons, the Inquisition, and magic.

They went kinda dark in some places for the POTC sequels (Davy Jones suffocating a guy with his tentacles, Blackbeard's death). They could probably get away with PG-13'ing the inquisition.

13 years? Damn. I remember seeing them all in the theater too. Well the trilogy anyway. Didn't see the fourth in the theater.

Why couldn't they bring her back now with the fourth movie or this? She's a bigger damn star than that shaved mongoose known as Orlando Bloom.

PENELOPE CRUZ MAY APPEAR WITH BEATLES LEGEND PAUL MCCARTNEY IN NEWEST ‘PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN’ FILM

Penelope Cruz could play a part in the fifth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, according to Master Herald. The 42-year-old beauty is rumored to be cast in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which hits theaters on May 26, 2017.

The rumors originated during the film’s additional filming in Vancouver, Canada, last month. It was then reported that Beatles legend Paul McCartney is set to appear in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales with a “special role.” But it was rumors about Penelope Cruz’s possible appearance that excited the franchise’s fans.

The franchise announced last year that the main villain in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be Captain Salazar, portrayed by Javier Bardem. Bardem, who married Penelope Cruz in 2010, makes a perfect villain, as seen in the James Bond movie Skyfall four years ago.
According to rumors, Bardem’s evil character is an old enemy of Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp. According to reports, having escaped the Devil’s Triangle, Captain Salazar vows to kill every pirate at sea as well as Captain Jack, who could be responsible for the demise of his brother. Apparently, Penelope Cruz is somehow involved in that drama.

And rumors say that Penelope Cruz will play the role of Angelica, a brutal pirate who has some relation to Blackbeard. Blackbeard appeared in the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
As noted by the franchise’s fans, Penelope Cruz’s character was a love interest of Captain Jack Sparrow in the same installment. The actress hasn’t confirmed or denied if she is going to play the role of Angelica in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
If the rumors are confirmed, it’s suspected that Penelope Cruz’s character will be a yet another villain who will be trying to prevent Captain Jack Sparrow from getting his hands on Poseidon’s Trident and becoming the ruler of the seas.

It’s also unknown if Penelope Cruz and husband Bardem are going to share screen time in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, but given the fact that their goals coincide, the chances of that are pretty high.
In other news, in her latest movie, titled Ma Ma, Penelope Cruz is not afraid of breast cancer, according to A.V. Club. Cruz, who also co-produced the film directed by Julio Medem, plays the role of Magda, who at the beginning of the movie is diagnosed with breast cancer.

While undergoing chemotherapy, Magda meets Arturo, whom she immediately befriends to take advantage of him being a soccer scout so that he can secure a bright athletic future for her young son. But then Penelope Cruz’s character falls in love with Arturo after he goes through a rather painful experience in his life.

And as viewers expect Arturo, Magda, and her son to start a happy family life, Penelope Cruz’s character is informed that her cancer has spread. But the point of the film is that early in the story, the audience sees a lonely woman and single mother who is informed that she can count the days until her death, and then we get to witness a transformation of some kind.
Toward the end of the movie and the closer she gets to death, Penelope Cruz’s character gets happier. And the appearance of Arturo in her life gives her hope that makes her want to live until her very last breath.

I seem to recall reading an interview with her once where she claimed that she didn't really enjoy her experience with making the first film. Not that she had problems with the main cast, but more with BTS stuff.

Maybe that's why she was removed from the sequels with so little fanfare (she gets one of the last lines of dialogue in the first film, and then she's just gone in the second with no explanation whatsoever as to what happened to her). Zoe just declined to come back basically.

I think it was the case of her not getting along with the director.

The Movie Wrapped Filming several Months ago I wonder when Disney will Start Promoting

I've enjoyed all of these movies but the fourth one was so unnecessary. I wish they just left it at the original trilogy, that was a perfect ending. Now this movie is gonna underperform and the series will end on a whimper.

I'll see it in theaters no matter what most likely since I've already seen the original four movies in theaters, but my hopes aren't too high.

You can stop at AWE. No need to go further if you don't like OST/this one.

“Pirates of the Caribbean 5” star Johnny Depp has been in the news mostly for wrong reasons. His nasty divorce battle with estranged wife Amber Heard, and exceeding the budget of the movie is causing concern. Even then, no one can imagine the film to be complete without Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow.

However, recent rumors suggest that for the first time the producers might take the risk of replacing Depp in the “Pirates of the Caribbean 5.” And who might be replacing him? According to insiders, it can be Orlando Bloom. Already, the British actor has been confirmed for playing the role of Will Turner in the flick.

Is The Upcoming Sequel A Reboot?

According to International Business Times, the boyfriend of Katy Perry recently stated that Disney was planning for a reboot. He said that the reboot depicts the relationship of Will Turner and his son. The 37-year-old actor said that the production house wants to reboot the entire franchise. It will focus on the son-father bonding.

If that happens, then Johnny Depp certainly would not have much presence in “Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales.”

New Cast Members To Play Bigger Roles

The source predicted that reboot planning is underway. It comes through, the new cast members like Kaya Scodelario (Carina Smyth) and Brenton Thwaites (Henry Turner) respectively have a chance to get bigger roles. The leaked reports suggest that in the fifth installment Henry is making a long journey meet his father, Will.

On the other hand, Carina, an astronomer will be the love interest of Henry. Although Johnny Depp does get to reprise the role of Captain Sparrow in the upcoming sequel, it would probably be his last movie with the franchise.

Anamaria could have been a great character in her own right and had a little arc of her own.

The first one is a great popcorn movie. One of the best of the last 15 years, actually. It is just hard to remember that because the sequels are so, so bad. Which is a shame.

Bad publicity or not, there is no Pirates of the Caribbean without Depp. He's the face of the franchise. Nobody would watch a POTC movie that doesn't have Captain Jack Sparrow in it. They'd be better off canceling the movie completely.

Exactly, no Sparrow, no POTC for me, and if he is hardly in the 5th movie I doubt I will be watching that either.

Yeah, I don't care if Sparrow isn't involved. I sure don't watch the movies for Will Turner.
