Possible movement on Black Widow spin-off?

It might be fun if all her rogues also have spider themed names, similar to the deadly viper asssassins squad.

I mean there’s some creepy names out there. Imagine a super villain called the trapdoor spider? Or the huntsman? No one google that last one unless you want nightmare fuel

All of those films also had really good production designs.

Biding its time by putting her in The Avengers and other superhero titles, Marvel is moving forward with a Black Widow film with Scarlett Johansson. While they are looking at female filmmakers, Deadline hears keep an eye on Australian helmer Cate Shortland on the short list. Her recent credits include Lore and most recently Berlin Syndrome. Stay tuned.

Her movie “Lore” is very good.

Prequel Please, then let her be a casualty of Avengers 4.

After Solo's disappointing BO performance I doubt a prequel is still on the table.
Jut cause Solo flopped, BW might not. I have faith in what Marvel (nor Disney) can do, and they've yet to let us down yet. I sure don't want a BW sequel though - I honestly can't see where they can go with that, but a prequel, that has potential - a lot of it, and it isn't going to be their first prequel either; Captain Marvel will beat her to that, and it's [possible] that Ant Man 2 takes place before Infinity War, so some films being slightly out of sequence isn't too far out there at the moment.

If anything, what they’ve learned from Solo is that Star Wars and Marvel are to be handled in two different ways.

Why would Solo flopping stop them from making a Marvel prequel? They've already made 2. 1 was a success and the 2nd one is sure to be a success.

Ha, I think “because solo flopped” is the new “women don’t sell movies”

I would rather a movie set in the current time period but featuring flashbacks.

I'm not that interested in a full prequel.

I think a prequel would be rather regressive and backwards looking. A4 is supposed to bring about a whole new chapter in the MCU, drastically different from what came before. It makes little sense for one of the first phase 4 films to be a prequel set during the old status quo.

I think the Black Widow films could potentially serve as interquels to the Avengers films in the same way the Captain America films did. Have Widow as the only original member on the next lineup, saving the world behind the scenes, doing the dirty jobs while heroes like Captain Marvel present the bright face of the Avengers.

"Black Widow films." Well that sounds ominous. I don't think the character can carry more than one movie.

Both CA:TFA and CM are introductions for their characters into the MCU. Despite their taking place at an earlier time period, neither are prequels. A flashback or two for Black Widow makes sense, but a film showing how a Russian ballerina became a government assassin has been done very recently and is, quite frankly, not a particularly interesting idea.

I would much rather see a gender bent version of Taken, with a retired, suburban dwelling Natasha is forced to give up her comfortable life when her past comes back to bite her. A former colleague is starting up the Red Room program and Natasha travels to Russia to shut that sh** down. And ends up adopting a half dozen adorable multi-cultural rescued trainees.

I don't see why not. Scarjo is a compelling actress and there is plenty of material they could dive into. Her films could be like the behind the scenes of the Avengers.

I think she probably could but I don't want a Widow trilogy. Especially if it's a prequel.

I hope it's a one-off film, personally

There are looong runs of Captain America to mine for material if "behind the scenes of the Avengers' is a profitable pitch for a trilogy. Black Widow has much less material to use because she's an Iron Man villain turned sometimes Avenger, not a character who carried a monthly title for decades.
I don't know who she'd even fight by herself. You can't give her Avengers villains, because if one Avenger with no powers can beat them up they obviously pose no threat to the team.
There's enough material about her to make one interesting movie, especially if it's a prequel where her relationship with Hawkeye is born.

Black Panther is a character that hasn't carried a monthly title for decades. His movie did ok.

Black Panther has the benefit of being Marvel's most interesting black hero. While his monthly comic is an on again, off again thing, he has a whole country where he's established as fighting Klaw, M'Baku, Killmonger, Malice, and Achebe.
Black Widow will be superheroine 3.5 to have her name in the title, has no rogues gallery, and her fights are always less visually interesting than a peer like Captain America. There's enough character material that I could get myself excited for one film, but that's it.
