One of my favourite Batman pictures. From Detective #35 (1940) by Batman's creator's Bill Finger and Bob Kane.

I seen this new comic in a book store recently... I think it was titles "Batman: Dark Knight", and in it the artist drew a costume with the BEGINS straight winged symbol on his chest and it looked really cool. Does anyone have scans or know what I am talking about? In the issue Hush and Joker were going at it.

Love the image you posted, theMan-Bat - its so bizarre to see Batman actually holding a gun, considering he loathes them so much.

And Whack Arnolds, can't you do a search on the DC Comics website for this title to see if the image on the cover reminds you of what you saw? Then you can ask around to see if someone has that book (or I might buy this book myself if I had confirmation of it's name) in order to scan some pictures in.

The only time I know of that Hush and the Joker fought was in Gotham Knights. I checked my back issues, and I couldn't find anything like that.

Thanks! He loathes them so much now because the Batman comics were censored by the editor, Whit Ellsworth, starting in 1941. Read the editor's note that contradicts what Batman's doing in the story by Batman's creators. Editor's note: "The Batman never carries or kills with a gun!" Apparently he's happy to pick one up and shoot.

From then on Batman was edited as loathing guns in the comics. The dark mysterious Batman was replaced by the Adam West style Batman and the atmosphere changed from horror to humour.

Yeah, Bill Finger wrote that. I love how he calls Batman "Weird". As Tim Burton said "Your not a normal person and dress up like a bat unless it's Halloween."

Batman can still be that same mysterious, mythic, horrific, creature of the night w/o using guns or killing. Which he has been since the 70's, and the stories are 10000000000x better than the intial Batman stories. The character developed into a more complex and entertaining persona.
