With the way Hulk and Iron-Man have successfully integrated themselves into each others universe, I've been thinking about what we may see in the future. If the build up to the Avengers is successful for Marvel, what's to stop them from linking some of their other properties together?

Of course the rights issue will always be prevalent, but if Marvel possess the ability to use all their characters, then I think we could see some very exciting build-ups to big, epic tie-in films that cover the entire established franchises.

Marvel: Civil War could be a possibility...hinting at developments that way possibly within Captain America and Iron Man sequels further down the track...even hints within Fantastic Four sequels, Daredevil, Spider-Man, Luke Cage...it doesn't have to be Millar's Civil War...but the concept can be extended to the characters available and tied into the film schedule that Marvel establishes. It could be phenomenal.

The possibilities are endless...Skrull Secret Invasion, World War Hulk, anything is possible. It might be hard to pull off, but if it comes off it'd be a very exciting time for Marvel fans.

What events in the Marvel U could you see happening?

More people would rather see the Secret Wars happen than the Civil War. No one even liked CW. No one.

Also, you have to leave this messageboard now.

You really think that Secret Wars could be sold anywhere outside of the fanboy circle? An omnipresent, ultra powerful being takes established heroes and throws them on a planet to fight a handful of villians as a social experiment? People would yawn so hard that Jack Kirby will have to block his ears from beyond the grave.

I liked Civil War...I didn't at first since it was a blatant recycling of Mutant Registration storylines, but if you ignore that aspect, it was a great story. Yes, the finale was one of the biggest anti-climaxes in comic book history ("Oh dear, I was wrong. I surrender.") but I thought it was a good run and is definitely something that can be applied to the film universe if done right.

I'm not saying it should happen, I'm saying it could happen...and the run leading into the Avengers film is exciting enough for non-Marvel fans to get interested in the Marvel universe to support the idea of future film crossovers with different franchises.

Thanks for your stimulating conversation and hospitality though. I won't be leaving this messageboard, but if that post was the extent of your input, then I reckon you should stay out of this thread.

They could just change the Secret Wars so that they take place on an island and not a planet and instead of an omnipotent being it could just be a referee.

^^

I can't tell if that was a serious comment?

I'd like Secret Wars-- the original, not Secret Wars 2 or Bendis' Secret War..

include most of the marvel heroes seen on screen so far..

spider-man
blade
wolverine
Thing
Hulk
Human Torch
Iron Man
Captain America

SEcret wars would be tough to do and would look goofy as heck! I feel like if they did it they'd have to change a lot and this would anger the fanboys who would be the only ones hwo would see it, I'd say take these themes and put them in the heroes movies. for instance make avengers the "house" of the hero movies everyone culd be in it
and have civil war or secret war happen IN THE AVENGERS movie?

I can't see Secret Wars working in any form. It's far too gimmicky and cartoony to work in the film universe which is largely serious.

I do have reservations about multiple heroes on screen (see X3) but I like the idea of tying in new Marvel properties to each other for a purpose.

I think civil war would make for the most interesting and thought-provoking movie, not only because it's about heroes versus heroes, but becuase it asks the question as to how much annonymity superheroes, as public figures, should be allowed to maintain, which is a cool twist. I think it would be cool to see on film, especially in the current era of celebrity obsession.

Yeah, exactly why I think Civil War will work. It has relevant themes about legislation, privacy and it's very easy to see both sides of the story. Secret Wars is in no way relevant at all...nobody is able to connect with that.

Well I hope Avengers is enough of a hit that Sony and Fox would allow small cameos or hints of their franchises existing with the one Marvel is forming (like Tony Stark reading the Daily Bugle or someone mentioning the "mutant incident at Liberty Island" or something). But that would be post-2011, if ever. Don't ever expect to see Spidey and Wolverine popping up in an Avengers movie or something. Albeit FF hinted to be in the same world as X-Men (with Dr. Doom in a photo with X2's president) and SM2 left subtle and somewhat illegal hints (mentioning Dr. Strange and the intentional casting of Thomas Jane's Punisher stunt double).

As for future mass crossovers. Well I don't see there being more than two Avengers movies. If those are both successes and work and they want to elevate it...I am going to be flamed for this, but I like the idea of a Civil War.

Before throwing stones at me, hear me out. It doesn't have to be like the poorly written Civil War that Millar did and Quesada worsened by turning the Stark side into an evil W. administration clone and unmasking Spidey on national TV (which wouldn't be possible, anyway). But the concept of the heroes with differing ideologies coming down against each other over a registration act. That is a cool idea. I could see Iron Man siding either way (as he is both liberal and conservative in his views), same with Cap. You make it a more balanced portrayal and have a more satisfying conclusion without the stupid crap (Sue Storms leaving Reed and Spidey unmasking being the biggest..albeit neither franchise would be present). I could see it being a very effective tone for a third "crossover" movie after two Avengers that would leave a huge wake. Heroes vs. heroes would be the perfect combat of Justice League, which I would hope DC would have off the ground by then (somewhere around 2015-2017, I imagine).

I simply cannot imagine Secret Wars working. While being the first mass crossover and thus holding a special place in all of our hearts...it just isn't very good. It is kind of lame in fact. A very poorly written story to have "20 heroes and villains duking it out for 12 whole issues!!!!!!" Besides the only heroes Marvel will have rights to are the Avengers Heroes, who audiences will have seen do at least two movies by this point (if they get past 1). It will just be another adventure for the Avengers, as FF, X-Men and Spidey are off limits (ironically the biggest franchises in the comics). Same goes for Mass Invasion and again, by this point people will be tired of the Avengers and be lining up for Justice League if that ever gets (properly) done.

But a civil war among the Marvel Universe habitants that we see a lot? That has not ever been seen. And again maybe there could be some cameos if the earlier Avengers movies are popular (like a spider web or claw ripping through a "Must register" headline). Otherwise I say leave it at two Avengers movies, because a third will seem tired. Especially if they are going to "Battle Planet" or fighting skrulls.

Just my long-winded opinion.

Actually when Marvel has run it's course,I can see this as final movie for them.It would be the "ultimate" (no pun intended)...all the heroes in one last hurrah...

Fox will probably lose FF right's some time between 2015-2017 assuming they do Silver Surfer or FF3. As for X-Men... they'll drag these spinoffs/prequels for another four years at least... 2009-2013 ish so if they decide to do a sequel trilogy then Marvel will never get X-Men back again. Sony will basically have Spiderman for the next decade as well although I neither see them going past six movies nor do I see them continuing with spinoffs. So basically don't expect to see any of the "big three" staple Marvel franchises outside their own making any cameo appearances for at least another ten years. That said I think it would be beneficial for both parties to allow some leeway into this restriction. If Tobey Maguire was up for the cameo in TIH Sony should have allowed it. If Marvel requested a Fury/Rogers reference in the Wolverine movie Fox should have gone forward with it. If they keep missing opportunities like this you can't just come in 10-15 years down the line and only then reveal that... "oh yeah all these characters are living in the same universe". Let's hope this doesn't continue but these studio execs are too far up their own asses to realize it.

I don't want them all existing in the same universe. FF made an X-Men reference that was all ready out of continuity with their universes cause the X-Men movies are in the future. And its pretty obvious in all these heroes movies except TIH that they are the first spectacular hero to appear. Most of these characters have enough depth and scope to provide for their own engaging movies. Its cool to see something happen like the Avengers coming together, but I like it better with these characters each having their own universe.

Well I can live with that as well. X-Men/Spiderman/Fantastic Four are universes big enough to co-exist by themselves. But if we are going to ever see the massive crossovers like Civil War/Kree-Skrulls and what not... then it would be wise to start connecting all these franchises now itself. Obviously they can't get every detail right and there will be continuity errors here and there... but all we need is legitimate evidence that these events are taking place in the same universe. However, I am also a realist and I know there is NO WAY we will ever see a mass live action movie cross over on the magnitude of Civil War for example... but the reason for doing this now... (through cameos and references ONLY) is that when Marvel does eventually get all their properties back... they can do these mini cross overs in future movies.... New Avengers... Hulk and Fantastic Four... Fantastic Four and Spidey... etc... by doing what I just proposed right now those future cross overs in movies 10-15 years down the line will flow more smoothly should Marvel choose to exploit that opportunity down the road. It would be better than establishing a brand new continuity for all the characters previously leased out to other studios.
