'Precious' based on Push a novel by Saphire

But honestly there are some people like that. In my school I've heard ghetto girls (numerous) times say:
"My baby daddy gonna be white oh asian.....I wanna a mixed baby, shoot". So that I would say isn't over the top.

I remember the Black males back in Middle and High School that bragged about how they wanted to get with a Puerto Rican or Mexican lady so their kids can have that "good hair."

did anyone read Armond White's negative review of the movie? I don't understand the man: He bashes 'Precious' but praises 'Transformers 2' and 'G Force':

As expected, the troll of professional movie critics Armond White has given the Film Festival award winner and Academy Award-contender PRecious a bad review:

“Not since The Birth of a Nation has a mainstream movie demeaned the idea of black American life as much as Precious. Full of brazenly racist clichés (Precious steals and eats an entire bucket of fried chicken), it is a sociological horror show. Offering racist hysteria masquerading as social sensitivity, it’s been acclaimed on the international festival circuit that usually disdains movies about black Americans as somehow inartistic and unworthy.”

Look, I think Armond White is a nonsensical blowhard as well, hell I started a ****ing facebook group about it...but he was right on the freaking money with this movie. Sometimes he does get stuff right. And this is also one of the few times where he used genuine critical analysis and not his arbitrary cinematic equation based ********.

Edit: Upon reading the review more thoroughly I realize that he still engages in nonsensical, petty, angry ******** that I hate so much. So yes, it's a pretty bad review in that respect and I rescind part of my support. But when it comes to his points about the movie and about Lee Daniels I still feel he's on the money. Too bad his angry trollish behavior almost discredits the good points he made.

When reading the synopsis a while back and seeing the trailer now the same thoughts crossed my mind as that reviewer. But I haven't seen the movie yet so I wont judge it much now.

Woah woah woah...did he just say Norbit was an excellent film!?

I have no desire to see this movie, especially once I heard Oprah had something to do with it. It's probably going to be this year's Slumdog Millionaire though, which makes me want to see it even less, since I thought Slumdog was god awful.

She didn't have anything to do with it.

She and Tyler Perry signed on as exec producers after seeing the film. They had absolutely nothing to do with it at all.

Slumdog wasn't god awful but I thought near the end, it was paint by the numbers. It wasn't in the same league as the movies of 2007 (There Will Be Blood, No Country)

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie.

Okay, I recently saw this movie and wow....disappointing. This is typical, cliched oscar bait. Its not a bad movie per say but it is certainly not a great movie like people are saying. Its completely forgettable. The only thing that prevented this movie from being completely bad were the performances by monique and gabby sidibie...which were good. Unfortunately, I feel the movie was trying waaayyy too hard to be sad and controversial...and some of the scenes that were suppose to be shocking just came out as funny. Like the scene were precious gets hit with a frying pan...or when monique throughs a vase at precious's head. wtf

This movie doesn't deserve any oscars. And the scene where Mo'Nique is fingering herself....DID.NOT.WANT.TO.SEE :barf:

Also, lee daniels is way too full of himself. He needs to calm down

i saw this and i am kind iffy on it.

mo'nique was great in her role, as horrible as it was.
paula patton was great to see on film again, and i hardly recognized lenny kravitz.

i've heard the book is a lot more intense than the movie, although i've not read it. i'm not sure i want to. this was some rough stuff.

did anyone else catch at the end
mo'nique's character was also sexually abusing precious, and she had hiv too

^^After everything she had already been through that was probably the hardest to take in.This has to be one of the most hateful mother-daughter relationships ever put on film....good god.:csad:

An extremely intense, emotional but at the same time insparational film with IMO amazing performances by especially Sidibe and Monique though Paula Patton and Mariah Carey need mentions too - Lee Daniels deserves recognition just for getting her out of her usual Divalike comfortzone.

People in the theatre were crying during Precious's breakdown in front of Ms Rain....
"Don't lie to me! Love ain't done nothing for me! Love beat me down! Love rape me, made me feel worthless!"

"But that's not love. Your baby loves you. I love you."

I can't remember the last time experiencing that kind of feeling in an audience to be honest! There's many disturbing scenes of physical and mental abuse that were very hard to stomach. It also touches on important often taboo subjects such as illiteracy, rape and incest among other things, so basically, this movie is not everyone (i've advised some of my friends/relatives against seeing it for these reasons).
