There is something to all that hidden agenda talk but it happens with almost every film. Some studios have guys in their pocket and some guys that hate because it serves a purpose or they simply like a competing movie.

In any case

87% critic rating

user rating ... who cares? Knowing the Nolan Nation anti-vote will be strong we have to filter all that to say the least. The trolling is ALREADY going on at IMDB. I don't get it but it's happening and will happen. Nolanites are threatened by most things Marvel for some strange reason. I'm not trying to start anything but right or wrong, that will play a factor and may spill in to those smaller critic circles that RT uses to compute their score.

Eh, there's an Anti-Nolan crowd as well. So it all balances out at the end of the day.

That's why it's a "theory".

But it was all of SHH, you guys who was fuming over the fact that Rotten Tomatoes was front-loading all the negative reviews. It was reason enough for me to finally register here at SHH rather than being a lurker to get in the action! :woot:

The first ever, FIRST ever CATFA review was from Top Critic - Roger Moore of the Greenbay Gazzette and Orlando Sentinel which was published on July 18th (4 days before the release) and it was overwhelmingly positive, in fact the first 6-7 reviews for CATFA came out all positive reviews.

Then here comes Rotten Tomatoes posting all the negative reviews first, and tweeting how rotten it was for 2 days straight. In fact Rotten Tomatoes didn't post Roger Moore's review (again the very first review) until July 20th, a good 2 days later.

So conspiracy theory it is.

Also another reason to just go with METACRITIC.COM

Sorry but I'm a firm believer in this theory; It was waaaaayyy too obvious to be a coincidence.

Not that I particularly care, but I think it will end up around the same score as the latest Marvel movies. high 70s low 80s.

As long as the characterisation and plot don't take a backseat to the action, it should do well critically. And seeing as Whedon's strength is characterisation, I'm confident it will deliver.

Problem is, this film will not pander to the high brow film goers and critics. It will not have depressing socio-politcal themes that remind us of the real world. It will not have a self important attitude.

It will be pure fantasy and escapism that doesn't take itself too seriously, which for some reason, even if it's done well, doesn't seem to be good enough for some people. Although Mi4 being massively critically acclaimed does give me hope that a lot of critics have started removing the bugs (and their heads) from their asses.

Not that I care, but some critics that have a bone to pick with the film, will cite the obvious 'non-cinematic' style. That will be very predictable.

I like "socio-political themes that remind me of the real world" in some of my films, but this is one film that doesn't need to go deep into that. All I'm expecting is superb dialogue, characters and action - and Whedon's the man for that.

Agreed.

I don't necessarily subscribe to the theory, but I do agree with your last statement - Metacritic is far superior. Not only do they score the positivity of each review making it a much more accurate gauge of the critical opinion, but they also only count legit professional critics, and not just every random dude with a website. Only problem with them is, they don't really post reviews early unless they are from the trades. So for a movie like this when I'm anticipating every review like an addict, I keep my eye on RottenTomatoes UNTIL the day before release when Metacritic starts posting their reviews.

Isn't Metacritic essentially the Top Critics of Rottentomatoes? Also, RT has a meter out of 10 but no one ever pays attention to that.

Essentially, but with their current setup, they no longer appear to give a Top Critics average. You can still list the Top Critics, but I haven't seen a way to see a Top Critics-only RT score or average score.

Also, RT has a meter out of 10 but no one ever pays attention to that.
This is true, but Metacritic doesn't make up s*** like RT does. Ever notice how there are often reviews counted as "rotten" or "fresh" even though when reading them they seem like anything but? A lot of times it seems like RT doesn't even read the reviews they post. Metacritic definitely does, and they have a much more consistent system for scoring them.

And like you said, they have an average score, but that's not the RT score, and it should be. A movie could consistently get a 5.5/10 from critics and have a 100% RT score, which is all people see. That just ain't right, imo.

Yea, i've seen "rotten" reviews many times then actually read the review and my reaction was "that was a negative review?" Visa versa too.

I'm not a conspiracy nut but i do believe studio politics play a part with RT.

Really? Don't you click on the 'Top Critics' and then it'll filter it for you?

They should just seriously change the system where the critic themselves rate and say whether its rotten or not when they submit a review. Not like its that hard. They already come up with a score they just have to say fresh or rotten.

Sadly Metacritic might always be behind RT because a fresh or rotten tomato is more visually appealing.

It filters the list to just the Top Critics reviews for me, but it doesn't change the score. Does it change the score for you?

Agreed. Damn shame.

Yea at the bar at the top where it gives the consensus, clicking on the 'Top Critics' filters it. It doesn't give you a new consensus but it does change to show number of top critics review and their average score.

Weird, when I click that, it filters the reviews, but doesn't change the numbers. Huh.

That would be strange. Cause I'm looking at Wanderlust right now. And it changes from 91 reviews to 32, 62% to 53%, and an average of 5.8 to 5.6.

I voted for 91-95% myself, I see it being about as well received as Iron Man 1.

Eh, there's an Anti-Nolan crowd as well. So it all balances out at the end of the day.

It's not even close. Nolan fans are absolutely rabid. Look at the IMDB boards right now for TDKR and Avengers. For the most part, Avengers fans are staying on their side of the fence but TDKR people are attacking like crazy.

And YES I know there are a lot of cross overs that are fans of both.

This has nothing to do with the avengers but I wanted to throw a bold prediction out there. I think The Hunger Games is gonna get a higher RT score than TDKR. I just have that feeling.

I think Hunger Games is going to be a very good movie, I'm starting to look forward to it more and more.

I just watched the first trailer for the first time in a while and I started getting mesmerized. I started getting the feelings I had when I watched LOTR and The Matrix for the first time.

A lot of that probably had to do with the choice of music, same with the first John Carter trailer. Music really has a way of tugging on your emotions. For The Avengers the music in the super bowl spot was a step up from the music in the first trailer, but I hope for this second one coming up tomorrow they choose music that can really draw you in on an emotional level.

Batman fans have always been the most obsessive and fanatical, long before Nolan came along.

Now that Nolan is here it's added a level of pretentiousness to them.

Anyway IMDB boards are a dark, dark corner of the internet.

I agree. I'm thinking it's going to do very well and be one of the the top movies of the summer. The trailers so far have been really good.
