SO looking forward to this film! I'm betting trailer with either Scream 4 or Fast Five. Take your bets!

Either one, really:

-Scream 4, because it's a horror film.

-Fast Five, because it's being released by Universal Pictures, the same company that's releasing The Thing.

Out of all of them, though, from a marketing stand point, it would be wiser to release it with Fast Five, because, as far as I know, that franchise has a bigger fanbase than the Scream films, which hasn't had one in over a decade.

I HATE Scream and it's sequels. WAY too non-sequitor and amature with the parodies involved.

Imo, they are just lame and shoddy horror movies for teenagers that love one too many awful horror movies.

Fast and the Furious. Sorry, I love the Scream films. Great parodies.

I can't believe how many Fast and the Furious sequels there are. It's the same old stupid and old macho crap over and over and over and over and over again. They don't even qualify as good junk food for the brain.

Imo, they are just lame and shoddy horror movies for teenagers that are questionable "horror fans". The type of teens that ignore horror movies that are actually good.

True, but there a difference between making fun of horor cliches and balatantly EXPLAINIG THE TROPE YOU'RE MAKING FUN OF JUST TO BE SNARKY. It's almost as bad as the Friedberg and Seltzer tactic of "LOOK! IT'S THAT GUY FROM THAT MOVIE!", which is not how parodies WORK.

Almost as bad? I don't know but you're right about how there is a difference between mocking horror cliches and very obviously explaining what you're mocking via using a metaphor/figure of speech.

Unsuccessful attempts at 'parody' don't impress me at all. Since I only saw the first Scream movie along time ago, it failed miserably in that regard. Not even one attempt elicited 'laughter'.

That and, my FAVORITE bit, HAVING THE CHARACTERS RAMBLE ON ABOUT HOROR TRIVIA WHILE THE KILLER IS TORMENTING THEM!!!!

For example, the opening scene to the first damn film:

Scream is a great horror comedy...I don't know what yall are talking about. When was the last time you saw a clever horror parody ? Scream 2 is the last movie that comes to mind.

The original Scream is one of my favorite Horror movies and I hope Scream 4 will be on par with it in terms of quality and enjoyment. And seeing the trailer for this movie attached to Scream 4 in theaters if it will be will be awesome and hopefully raise awareness about it.

Scream isn't parody, it's meta comedy. Jet black meta comedy. The first 2 movies were decent. 3rd was crap though.

Parody makes fun of tropes and cliches. Scream celebrated them by making a great slasher movie, which it was, and being a love letter to the genre. It also had a twisty, paranoia inducing plot. Which was pretty clever, considering this is the slasher genre we're talking about.

I think some people are comparing the 'Scream' series with the 'Scary Movie' series possibly?

The Scream movies were self referencing, satirical horror movies - not dark comedies.

The Scary Movie were parodies of that series, and were supposed be comedies but coincidentally were no more funnier [in that they were awful].

.......It wasn't your average parody. Itself was a horror film alone, but in a "parody" sense. It's the rules of horror in real life. So, I don't see how it's supposed to make you laugh.

You guys are aware there's a Scream 4 thread. I want my Thing back.

Shaun of the Dead comes to mind.

Haven't really been keeping up with this movie, any recent news that I should be aware of?

If this prequel sucks, I will blame Universal. However...if they re-release JC The Thing on Blu-ray with the rest of the deleted scenes (that alternate ending with MacReady being rescued and in govt room)...then...it be worth it.
