Strike Entertainment and Universal Pictures will remake John Carpenter's The Thing, reports Variety.

The script will be written by "Battlestar Galactica" executive producer Ronald D. Moore. The 1982 original dealt with a shape-shifting creature from outer space that terrorizes researchers at an Antarctic facility.

Strike partners Marc Abraham and Eric Newman will produce and the company will co-finance the remake, to which Universal owned the rights. David Foster, who produced the original film, will executive produce.

Carpenter's film continued the storyline of the Howard Hawks-directed The Thing From Another World. That 1951 film starred James Arness as an alien monster that wiped out workers at an Army radar station.

Carpenter's film opened with a team arriving to find that encampment has been wiped out. The alien moved from the body of one team member to another, so it was never quite clear who the villain was.

The producers said they consider the new film to be more "a companion piece" to the Carpenter film than a note-for-note remake

Seems to be completely pointless given how good the original was

Third part would'v been okay, but remake just makes people angry.

I wonder what they mean by "companion piece?" Could mean that it's, like, another Thing landing in a different place or something, I dunno.

See what universal is thinking is that the advancements in effects technology will make this movie better but imo it was the directing that made the origanal.
The paranoia and atmosphere of isolation made carpenters movie imo a classic.

It is impossible to make a better movie or even close to carpenter's great classic, so they're losing their time and spending their money on something that shouldn't be touched.I think Carpenters the thing is one ther greatest Sci-fi/Horror films ever made and it shoudn't be remade, and how can you beat the great creatures from carpenters film, they're so masterfully created by the great rob bottin. universal should be ashamed.:cmad:

Ya exactly and as you pointed out the movie still stands up

No, no, no!!!! Dammit!! :cmad:

Those ****e-asses, they just can't come up with anything new can they? Just keep pissing on the classics you money-****es. :down:down:down:cmad:

The Thing doesnt need to be re-made, its awesome as it is and should just be left alone.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A remake of "Alien" is inevitable now that this is coming out:(

Carpenter's own "Thing" was a remake of "The Thing From Another World". We don't need another remake of the Thing.

stupid idea. i could accept a sequel or a prequel (telling what happened with the dog and the helicopter from the beginning) but a remake is just stupid. the original is still scary as hell!

I'm going to bust a nut if this movie is actually scarier than Carpenter's, which obviously won't happen so my nut is safe, lol.

You just know this sack of ass will be PG-13. :o

Well thats it .................

Hollywood is a dry well, a barren land.

They will not rest until they have ruined the memory of EVERY great movie ever made.

If it's like a spin off, also set it in early 80's and done with respect, well....MAYBE.

If it's a straight remake, go **** yourself, Hollywood. You're going to ruin my NUMBER ONE horror movie ever.

The worst part is that the Thing isn't even that old. The special effects/story/acting all still hold up so there's not even a point to a remake.

Remakes that are rated PG-13 are guaranteed to suck.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :down::down::down:

Actually the SFX were a crucial part of what made the 1982 film amazing.
The Thing looked real. The effects were incredible.
You can't do that w/ CGI, CGI just looks like CGI, crap and fake.
