I saw the trailer and I thought this was a prequel But looks more like a remake!?, Doesn't look that bad either way!

How many years is this set before Carpenter's?,I thought the team that dealt with the alien first were Europeans or something!?Why is there a character with a beard&jacket while holding a flame thrower..Just like Kurt Russel's character?

they are trying to make it look like Carpenter's movie. they think that they could make more money.

I wish it was October, lol. I've been looking foward to this for a while.

Same here.

It's set three days before Carpenter's version.

So, did anyone see that pic of The Thing that I uploaded?

I wonder how they are going to End this one. Because obviously if this is a Prequel you have [BLACKOUT]two male survivors who get in an old chopper and fly after the "dog" (so to me this has to say the Chick dies and 2 of the guys have to live)[/BLACKOUT]

Do we see their camp? It's been so long I can't remember although even if we did and it's deserted or abandoned, it doesn't mean there won't be other survivors headed in another direction to escape or get help. Although being the Antarctic I don't know where that would be outside the obvious American camp.

HHN just announced this on Twitter:

Update on behind the screams videos, we've shot footage for Scream\Terror Tram, La Llorona and The Thing. Still more to shoot. No date yet

excited to see this... loved the original

its a prequel so at least its not another remake... lol but still even if it was its funny how some people would be angry because the john carpenter version was a remake too and far superior to the 1950's one.

Saw the trailer for this attached to Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark, awesome to see on the big screen. I can't wait for this movie.

Not necessarily.
She might still get away on another chopper and just head in a different direction. In the Carpenter film, it's assumed that the guys chasing the dog at the beginning are the only survivors from the other station, but they die before you find out for sure.

I dunno if this is the real him or not, but Matthijis (director) seems to have started his own FB page:

It looks 100% legit to me.

I love when directors actually talk to their fans!

Some tidbits from that page that got me in a really good mood:

I filmed it in a such a way that if you delete the end titles and JC opening titles you could make it into one long film. I even tried that in the edit and it worked.

The scare factor in JC’s movie, to me, is that you never knew in what kind of horrible form/shape The Thing would reveal itself. I tried to stay as true as possible to that concept. It is basically human mutilation on steroids, part human, part something disgusting and lethal from another world.

Another new pic of Winstead holding a flamethrower:

Most remakes I absolutely loathe. I was pleasantly surprised with Pirannah 3D, so I am kinda looking forward to this film.

I just hope it doesn't turn into another Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday The 13th, A Nightmare On Elm Street, The Hitcher, etc.

You gotta ask the question though, as the structure stands,....what can this movie accomplish?

And when you think about that, you come up the conclusion that it would have been smarter to do a remake.

Dude.........it is not a remake....:cmad:

It's like they're trying so hard to be faithful, and aesthetically it looks fantastic, but it's really covering stuff that we don't need to know.

I'm still anticipating it, but I hope this isn't another case of midichlorians.

It is not, but it is perhaps unprecedented in similiarity.

"this time there is a chick, and they will be norwegian, but speak english."

Otherwise basically same movie structure, save for a few new character dynamics...and probably better effects when the ***** hits the fan.

At any rate, don't get me wrong...I'm totally there.

I just don't see what was so quintiessential about the norwegian tale that made them go that route.

I'm aware of that. However, it is in the same ballpark. It's pretty much the same story as the original, but with different characters. They probably made it a prequel to keep the stigma of a remake from hanging over their heads.

That being said, I am cautiously anticipating this movie. I don't wanna say "Oh my God! I'm so looking forward to this movie! Its gonna be totally awesome!" Because there's still a very good chance that it'll suck beyond belief.

I always try to go into movies with low expectations. If the movie ends up being any good at all, then I'm pleasantly surprised. If it sucks, then no big loss.
