I don't really know what the hell is going on with my computer but this morning I noticed when I tried saving an article on Word, when I clicked saved, the entire program froze several times whenever I tried saving. & then today when I right clicked an image to save it, Firefox completely froze.

I did end up downloading Norton 360 yesterday since my old Norton trial expired. I don't know if that's affecting the save dialog box to come out but I'm thinking it could be it.

I have a Windows XP & the latest version of Firefox but still, what gives. I've never had this problem before.

For a start, Norton's crap. You've not paid for it yet have you? It's a resource hogger and uses up valuable system resources. If its on, do a scan.
For the Firefox issue, what's your download history like? Clear the history in downloads. It can cause this according to Mozilla.
Having typed that out as well, I've just realised that in both instances you're trying to write to disc. Defrag it if you can mate. Usual spyware/malware thing can't hurt.

As I figured, it was that Norton 360 crap that was causing me all those problems. Luckily I was able to uninstall it while talking to this Norton tech person over the phone.

What do you use? I'm thinking on McAfee or AVG.

AVG is good, i worked at a 'call center' for a ISP company and all the work station PCs had AVG installed. I have it in mine and i like it, even has built in spyware scanners too.

Well, I tried Avast...it was blocking some firewall there so I couldn't get a connection at all soooo I got rid of it. :o

Oh God, if you've got a job, don't use AVG or Avast. I only suggest that to my out of work friends.

Norton 360 is a fine program if you're using version 2.0 and have a relatively modern computer. I won't deny that it uses a large amount of resources but if your computer is a middle end purchased within' the past 2-3 years, it should run adequately.

First things first. If you had an expired version of Norton on your computer, that could have been it. Go to google and type in: Norton Removal Tool... Actually screw that, here: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Run it on your system reboot. Then try to install a software of your choice. My top three recommendations are as follows:

Kaspersky Internet Security
Webroot Essentials
Norton Internet Security 2009

On my PC I use KIS. On my 5 year old laptop I use KIS. On my folks 10 year old Dell I use NIS and on the brand new computer I bought them I use NIS.

Mcafee will always be trash to me but I've heard they've made great strides over the years.

Old/Corrupt versions of Norton and McAfee can wreak havoc on a system. I see it happen everyday.

Adamred provided you some basic tech answers but until you run the Norton removal tool, I really can't provide anymore input. Try the tool and then get back to me.
