PS2 Gets Smaller
Sony manages to shrink things even further.
by Anoop Gantayat
July 8, 2007 - The slimline PStwo is already too small for comfort for some, but Sony has managed to make it even smaller! Japan's Nikkei Business Daily reports today that the new model SCPH-79000 of the PS2 hardware features a drop in weight from 900 to 600 grams. The system's AC adapter has also dropped from 350 to 250 grams.

The paper reports that the weight loss was achieved by a reduction of parts. This has also resulted in a drop in production costs, something that's sure to benefit Sony's bottom line.

Sony has started shipping the new hardware, which is visually identical to previous versions.

I want to see what this looks like. I cant beleive they are even making another model

^ Get out your microscope :)

Seriously, I can't believe how small they are able to make it. With as big as the PS3 is, no wonder it has a fully functional PS2 inside..the thing is teeny tiny.

LOL can anyone imagine down the road, a slim PS3? Here we are toating this huge device, next gen 600.00 monster and in 6 years it will be a teeny tiny budget item.

Sony really needs to stop it with the Playstation 2 support. Just like how Microsoft pretty much ended the Xbox for the Xbox 360. This is just hindering the Playstation 3.

Keeping people buy the PS2 keeps even more people from buying a wii and offsets losses the PS3 is incuring ight now. Don't expect any big releases anymore, but supporting anf making games for the PS2 right now is goo buisiness. You aren't going to get substancially more people buying the 500 dollar PS3 just because the 139.99 PS2 is discontined. The people who are buying the PS2 up in droves at that price would just end up buying a Wii otherwise and it would mean a lot of lost money for Sony.

$129.99 PS2

yeah, it's good business overall to continue supporting the PS2 untill PS3 statistics are up to where it can be self sustaining for their videogame market.

more PS2 owners would be more PS3 owners years down the line as well when it's cheaper. They continue to install a fan base

Don't Blame me, I just posted the article. :o

I blame you. You completely led me down the garden path.

I don't understand the point of this. Oh well. :csad:
