Chances are a lot of people don't really know anything about Hank Pym, unless you're a comic book fan. So I'm wondering, most (if not all) people know about Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor; but will the general audience truly care about Pym and his abilities to communicate with ants and grow to giant sized height?

If it's good? Yes.

This is the same argument people tried to make with Iron Man.

Yes,
If the movie is made correctly. Also Hank Pym has a lot of depth to him.

Nobody knows who like 90% of characters are before they hit the big screen and people by, ya know, watching the movie, get to know them.

Also the fact that both Ant-man's are rumored to be in the movie makes it interesting. Sun Down what's ur avy from?

Personally, I prefer Scott Lang.

Much of Pym's adventures aren't the stuff heroic stories are made of...

Nailed it. If the movies are good people will watch them simple as that. Doesn't matter if they know the character or not. It hasn't stopped Blade or IronMan being successful.

I think Pym would work really well if he just appeared in the Avengers and then they gave him his own film depending on the reaction. I think an Ant-Man film would need to be a bit on the humorous side but with tons of action. The real question is should he be able to shrink and grow? I think she should only be able to shrink in Avengers and he keeps saying he's working on something to make him a better hero and during the climax he reveals his growing ability.

Sun_Down's avatar is the cover from Green Arrow #1.

It hasnt stopped Indiana Jones, Dirty Harry, etc.

I dont know where this concept of preconceived knowledge of characters becomes such a necessity for comic book movies when original movies have to deal with the same notion yetstill be successful. in fact i think the more they are known the more ithurts there chance of a good movie, since there seems to be a much more reliance on name brand rather than good storytelling. Only lately with Iron MAn and Batman franchises have the stories been upgraded.

Let's not forget his powers of domestic violence.

That brings up another question. Should his abuse be brought into the movie some how?

Maybe the Avengers movies, but hopefully more like 616 rather than ultimate.

Yes, but maybe not until later in the series...give us a tiny glimpse to be built up later, like Tony Stark's drinking problem.

LOL, funny thing about that too. They went balls to the wall before he became Iron Man to have Stark with a drink in his hands, and I was almost certain he was drinking alcohol when he asks for "sportscar red" or w/e but it looked more like a health smoothie or something.

Should it? Yes, but WILL it? Probably not. Generally speaking, you're actually supposed to LIKE the main character in movies like this.

One word,Blade...

... If Blade could work almost any Marvel character could. I mean how more obscure could you be then Blade before his cinematic success. As others have said its all about quality.

As long as he beats his wife, he'll have an audience :o

the Pyms should be cross pollinated in the films as SHIELD scientists who had some sort or working rel'p with Banner

That brings up another thing should Banner and Pym have a relationship. Maybe they were once colleagues or one idolizes the other.

I would like to see a rivalry between Stark and Pym. Stark dated Janet in the comics after her and Hank broke up so it would be intresting to see Tony flirt with her and Hank getting a little jealous.

I recall hearing that Ant-ant was going to be a lighter comedies with Simon Pegg. Though personally I would like the UU version, I actually like this idea, because if they are going to make a comedic avenger, I'd rather it be someone like Ant-man, whose premiss is kinda dumb . Also i would like Pym to be a you-love-to-hate jerk like House. It would be a good addition to the Avengers with out bringing a lot of dramatic baggage.Definitely could help make the avengers better for a wide audience of movie goers

I think if the rumors we'll see both Scott Lang and Hank Pym in the Ant-Man movie, Pym will be the more serious of the two, while Lang will be the comedy value guy.

Edgar Wright said Ant-Man would be full-on action adventure sci-fi film but with a comedic element.

I wonder who Wright will have in mind for the role? Directors tend to have a 'stock' of actors the continually refer to, I'm guessing, Simon Pegg or Paddy Considine? Anyone?
