Iron Man Q & A w/Jon Favreau from his Myspace site!

Yeah I will. Since setting the movie in Florida and making the villains money launderers was weak as hell.

I don't want to waste his time, but there's a lot of good ideas in those threads. If this story is set in present time with a Vietnam War tie-in, he should consider an actor like Tom Selleck to play Tony. Tom Selleck wouldn't do it, but I like the image of him in the armor.

Ive always wanted to see Tom Selleck as ironman.

Hey Jon,

Any chance Jarvis will be in the flick?

Jon Favreau:

We're thinking about it.

Jon have you met/talked with any actors yet?

When approximately do you think Stark will be cast?

Jon Favreau:

We just hired casting directors. We are discussing the role.

Nice nice nice. Things are moving along.

I have faith in Jon - he seems like a well balanced guy.

This is nothing to do with Iron Man but a while ago i heard about an Elf 2 is this still gonna happen will you be directing?

Jon Favreau:

Not that I know of. No, I wouldn't be the director.

First off Jon congrats on getting the chance to bring one of the greatest comic heroes to life. Just had a couple of questions...

1) Is there a script set in stone yet or are you still waiting for one to approve? If so are you open to reading any screenplay or does it have to come straight from a Hollywood screenwriter? (Reason I ask is that I'm a pretty big Iron Man fan and I've been toying with a script for about 3 months now just for fun)

2) I assume you're going to focus on the origin of Iron Man, but are you also going to take us into Tony Stark's past at all? (i.e. drinking problems, his fascination with gadgets)

Thanks for answering all these questions on this board and good luck with the film...can't wait to see it...

Jon Favreau:

1) The story is set in stone, the script is still being worked on.
2) No childhood flashbacks, if that's what you're asking.

Just a couple new ones.

Awesome news about them hiring casting directers, thats a huge step forward, at least in my mind.

Can someoen who posts on his myspace ask if we will see Tony in a war prior to becoming Iron Man

I did it.

I think he said we'll see him in the beginning in the Gulf War or in the Mideast. Not sure if we'll see him or they'll just reference that he was there. I'm sure they'll show something. Hopefully he'll clear that up. :)

Jon,

I read somewhere that Tony Stark will be involved in espionage against international terroist. Will this be how he gets injured?

Jon Favreau:

Untrue.

Is there anybody in this process at all other than Marvel that has say what the movie will be about. Even the most minute detail?

Jon Favreau:

No

Jon,

The following is the link for my "Cary's Comics Craze" column that ran July 13 in the Norwalk Reflector newspaper. This includes the interview I did with you May 25 in this same forum. I look forward to getting your feedback (and any other MySpace readers). You can e-mail me at [email protected].

Thanks again for the interview. I hope our paths will cross again soon.

Jon Favreau:

Great job. Glad I could help.

Oh and here he confirms Zak Penn is not directing Incredible Hulk:

Advanced DarkWrote:
so uh you think Zak Penn will be directing a film anytime soon? He is kind of "GREEN" in that area huh? Close? Hmmm? Warm?

Jon Favreau:

Cold.

Zak Penn is writing Hulk 2 though. Louis Leterrier is the director.

Hi all. Just wanted to drop by and introduce myself. I'm Nezee and I run jon-favreau.net, your friendly neighborhood Favreau fansite. =) Good idea editing the Q&A and making it easy to read. Boy can it be hard to wade through all the hoopla over at the IM Forum. ;)

Thanks for the invite, Advanced Dark.

I just got back from San Diego. The Marvel panel was great. The crowd seemed to really dig that we hired Adi Granov to help with the suit design. He joined the panel and got an enthusiastic response. He is listed in my top 8 if you want to send him a post. We signed the teaser poster he drew at the Marvel booth until the line was gone. It lasted well over an hour.

For those of you who haven't heard, Mandarin will be the villian. But don't expect a magical Fu Manchu stereotype. We are taking many liberties to update the villian. He will still size up as Stark's nemesis, but we're throwing in a few surprises for the fans of the books.

I also heard the James Bond has since planned to release its next installment on our same date: May 2, 2008. The only weekend of 2008 taken, I might add. I'm sort of surprised by the move by Sony as I'm sure we share some of the same audience. It feels like two cars fighting over the same spot in an empty parking lot. I guess they expect us to move. I really don't get it.

I had dinner with Joe Quesada and Joss Whedon. What great company. We spoke about Iron Man, Civil War, and Wonder Woman.

Comments on villain and competition from Bond.

Love the new stuff and the mandarin pick. Watch out bond we are comin for ya:up:

Sony had no reason to pick that date. I'm sure Avi and company will be talking to them regarding Spiderman & Ghost Rider anyways and Bond will move to 2 weeks later. I think May is a bad slot for a Bond film cause other blockbusters will move in on that month and completely crush it. The comic book films are the ones that stand up big in the Summer thanks to the huge amount of kids who just love the characters.

Ontario, Ca huh? I'll be driving out there in a few weeks to see Craig Shoemaker at the Improv. Just left Victoria Gardens in Rancho earlier...ate at the Yard House. Yummy.
