Let's say you ring a customer up for something that totals out to $14.50.

They give you a ten and a five and tell you to keep the change.

Do YOU keep the change, or do you keep it in the drawer?

Drawer it. What do I want with .50?

I'd put it in the charity box... but it's not an option here.

If the change was a buck or two, would you keep it then?

And I've never heard of a charity box.

Seriously!?

It's a little box to put spare change in... then you give it to a charity.

I'd keep it only if I desperately needed it, which I never do. Otherwise, I just throw it in the drawer.

I worked in a video store and I know we weren't allowed to accept tips however I can't remember anyone trying to give me a substantial amount. If it was just change, if there was some charity thing on the counter, I'd just put it in.

I used to just put it in the drawer. I worked at a couple of party stores when I was in hs/college.

I leave it in the drawer, unless it was a few dollars, then I'd keep it.

At the comic shop, I usually throw it in the drawer because usually we'll have a few during the day that are a couple cents short. My boss only counts the bills anyhow when he Zs out so as long as it is close to correct, he doesn't bother.

At the adult store, they were more strict and every cent had to be accounted for so we had a charity box for the change.

At the smoothie stand, I assume it is my tip and stick it in the tip jar

I either leave it in the drawer or put it to the side to help out a customer that is short change later on.

actually, immortal. If you get a Sam's soda from the machine its only 25 cents.

I GET TWO COKES!

How are you not allowed to accept tips that are meant for you?

I also follow the "put aside for customer in need" routine. All the clerks where I work are on camera so "taking it for yourself" is not an option.

Keep it in the drawer, for an in-case situation if a drawer in the future ends up a quarter short or something.

:wow:

They'd fire me for pocketing extra cash. Hell, I could get in trouble for accepting gifts from video game publishers... not that it stops me. (I'll never let you go, Spider-Man 3 game poster and empty PS3 display box...)

i wasn't supposoed to accept gratuities at the adult store, but Eddie Van Halen always gave me $20 to $50 to carry his packages to the car
