Was he from Mars? Did his head and body alter after coming to Earth, or does he make his head more human like on purpose? What was his wifes name and their children? When and how did his planet get destroyed? How old is he? How did he get to Earth. I've only seen him in Justice League, and the last episode I saw him in was a knight of shadows part 1. It showed his wife and 2 children. I thought there were 3.

Martian Manhunter from Wikipedia. Seriously, it's a great site to get a lot of accurate info. There's always the Stupid Questions thread in this forum and the Marvel one. Don't pay any attention to the name of the thread, it's meant for questions that can be answered in one or two posts without cluttering the board with more threads.:)

Yes the Martian Manhunter is from Mars. He is the last of his kind: the Green Martians. His wife and daugher were killed by a telepathic plague that destroyed all life on Mars. They're names are M'yri'ah and K'ymm. No second or third child in the comics. And yes he changes from his true Martian shape into his more "human" shape.

Also, the word for Mars in his language is "Ma'aleca'andra."

......you know. Just an interesting fact. :O

It's not because it's more human. That's the form he used when going about his daily life on Mars. Because he was a law officer, a body that was big, strong, and somewhat intimidating was most efficient. On Mars, one's true form is a private thing shared only with those closest to you. In public, everyone assumes forms best suited for their day to day activities and ocupations.

It must have been different then on Justice League. There was a flashback where all of his planet were scared, and they all had the cone shaped head, and same color of skin when Manhunter is more of a greenish gray.

Yeah, they changed it. In the cartoon, he assumed that form because, while it's still rather odd, humans tend to be more comfortable around it than when he's in his true form. Sort of meeting the social requirements while still staying true to himself.

He did have 2 children on the show right? What was the other name, ot was it never said?

He did have 2 children on the Justice League show but they were never named. M'yri'ah keeps her name though.

Which is also exactly the explanation they gave in JLA: Year One if I recall. I'm pretty sure that's still up to date. I don't know where you got your info from (about it being his police officer form etc.)...

Wikipedia's a great site, but don't try to upload images for them. They're very snotty about what can and can't go up on their site (they still don't have any pictures of Alicia Witt)

It was in Martian Manhunter's solo series. John Ostrander wrote it. Very good series.

New Frontier has him turn into human looking form but he's still green, because he says he doesn't want to pretend he's not alien anymore, but he took the shape to make people more comfortable

And thank you very much for that tidbit, Question. Never knew that before.

I've been meaning to ask for awhile, but does anyone know any decent MM stories? I don't think he has any trades. I really enjoy that "alien trying to find a new home and understand our way of life" approach. He was great in New Frontier and JLA YEar One, but I'm looking for more

John Ostrander's series rocked. There was one stand alone issue set in the time period of "JLA: One Million" that was really freakin' sweet.

How old is he on the cartoon, and how old is he in the current comics? Does he have an expanded life, like Superman?

In the cartoon he's over 500 years old. In the comics, they haven't really said, but he's at least in his 70s. Probably a bit older.

They're not snotty. They're specific. You need to source the images well and explain why it's fair use. They're almost like an actual encyclopedia, and they need to be able to defend themselves from lawsuits. If you can find a good press photo of Alicia Witt you can easily upload it, as long as you state where it's from, and it's purpose.

MM was at his best during the JLI stories, IMO. He was a great straight man to everyone's silliness.
