Has Martian Manhunter ever had his own run?

There are exceptions, though. J'onn's brother was an evil green Martian and Miss Martian is a good white Martian.

I think the good/evil alignments of the Martian races are more cultural than genetic. The White Martians are a distinctly warrior culture that, way back when on Mars, I would assume, thrived through regular conquest (as many militaristic empires has to after a while), and the Green Martian culture had a greater influence on science and spirituality, and thus kept to themselves until the Whites started ****ing their **** up.

Really, it's a lot like the differences between Autobots and Decepticons.

It's just that all of the Decepticons happen to be one color and all of the Autobots happen to be another in this case... ;)

Not too different from faction emblems.

This raises another question, though: Who's cooler, J'onn J'onzz or Optimus Primde?

didnt i say that? only much less eloquently?

I'd say J'onn. Prime's an archetype; J'onn's more of a 3-dimensional character. There have been efforts to show us other facets of Prime's personality, but they all seem hollow to me because Prime doesn't need a personality. He's the stalwart leader and consummate badass of the Autobot army. He works as an archetype.

Its GOTTA be Prime for me, one of my favourite characters ever.

How powerful exactly are the White Martians? I ask because J'onn is one of the heavy hitters in the JLU, I believe he make even make himself as strong as Superman for short periods of time.

The white Martians have the same powers as the green Martians. They were treated as a really big, scary deal back in Morrison and Waid's JLA series.

^Doesnt sound like they are much of a threat then, pretty dissapointing considering. What is the difference between them then, essentially?

Uh... they're a race of dudes who have all the powers and none of the compunctions about using them as the Martian Manhunter. How is that not much of a threat?

Yeah, do you even realize how many powers the Martian Manhunter has? Psychic powers, super strength, flight, the ability to change body density (both impervious to damage, and able to pass through solid matter), heat vision, and shape-shifting. Hell, I probably forgot a few.

That's a group of people you just don't want to **** with.

I always figured the White Martians were better at the things Superman does and the Green Martians were better psychicly.

I mean, remember Zum the White Martian? He was fast enough for Wally, but I don't see J'onn as that fast. But J'onn kicked ass with the psychic spikes in Terror Incognita....

The Martian Manhunter has some super-speed. I don't know, maybe they're like the Eternals, where they all have the potential for the same powers but some of them work at certain powers more than others and are better with them. Maybe Zum was a Martian who decided he liked being fast, so he worked at it more than others. J'onn seems like the base model--well-rounded in all areas with telepathy as his best.

Great going Corp.

Now look what you did.

After this talk about JJ's villains it's really hit me that he needs his own Lex Luthor or Joker. He would of course need some actual exposer to create such a rivalry, but it would be great to see.

Ooo, oo, what about Marvin?

He'd have to come back from the dead first.

The obvious choice for his greatest villain is another Martian, probably Fernus (who is literally J'onn but evil and without the fire weakness) or his brother Malefic.

I would go for a really powerful human telepath. Someone who abuses their power mind controlling or taking complete liberties of people due to their telepathy. Maybe they can invade J'onn's mind and he would feel all violated etc.

^Either way I think the character needs to be utilised more, I mean, has he even ever had a major fight scene against one of the more powerful villains of the DC universe? I know he has had a few brief encounters with Doomsday but in both I can remember he was annihilated.

He also got his ass kicked by Asmodel. He generally does get beat up a lot, unfortunately. I guess they have to firmly establish that he's not as strong as Superman.

I thought he could, at least temporarily, augment his strength to the same level as Superman's?

Depends on what you read. Sometimes he's shown as being right up there with Superman, other times he's a *****. He's fairly inconsistent.

Just sifted through my old collection and started reading the DC 1 Million stuff, the Martian Manhunter's story was fantastic. Even going beyond DC 1 Million when it was revisited in the MM's own book I thought the story was great. I was very sad when they ended this cos J'onn J'onz is truly the most under appreciated character in DC

This started out as a really interesting story and then it went to hell in a handbag a couple of Issues in. I think they were trying to give him supporting characters but I dunno. The basic premise I remember is that Jonn finds out more of his people have survived and crash landed on earth when he tries to find them he stumbles onto a governemnt conspriacy. The feds captured the aliens and have been doing tests and dissecting his peeps so they can develop weapons to mimick they're powers. that was all good then it got weird.
