which superman lost his powers? 616? Prime? earth-2 superman?? and how did he lose his powers?? sorry for being a bit behind... still catching up on whats going on. Will superman ever get his powers back? because that kinda destroyed dc comics by taking away the powers from the godliest hero imo.

1) What the **** is "616 Superman"?

2) Superman is not their "godliest" character. The Spectre, Darkseid, and Dr. Fate all dwarf him.

3) I find it highly unlikely that the loss of powers is permament.

He lost his powers due to an unexplained event that will be shown in Infinite Crisis #7. The "Up, Up, and Away" arc running through both Superman books picks up one year after the end of Infinite Crisis, and I get the feeling that we'll soon see Kal-El back in the familiar red and blue. During the miniseries '52', we'll see how Superman tried (and failed) to get his powers back during the missing year.

im pretty sure 616 is the superman in the main comic storyline.
either that or im getting mixed up with marvel characters.

First of all, 616 is mainstream Marvel earth. So there's no 616 Superman. The mainstream DC Superman is Earth-1 Superman (or Post Crisis Superman, if you will -- but that's basically the same thing now).

And yes, it's the mainstream Superman who lost his powers. So far as I know, it hasn't yet been revealed how he lost them. (The DC titles all just jumped one year ahead, and the stuff that happened in the missing year is gradually going to be revealed.)

Obviously he's going to get his powers back eventually. Do you really think they're going to just stop having Superman be super? It's just a temporary storyline.

And no, it won't destroy DC comics, any more than killing Superman did back in the '90s. That was only temporary too.

Unfortunately, Darkseid hasn't dwarfed Superman for some time. He's a pushover now. :o

More like stillborn, since he's still being written as a pansy today. :(

616 Superman would be Sentry

616 Superman could be a lot of people. Sentry, Gladiator, Captain America. Depends on what qualities of Superman you're looking at.

thanks a lot guys. sorry about the mixup about the whole 616 deal. Anyways what comics should i pick up (other than infinite crisis) that will fill me in?

He'll probably lose his powers in the last issue of Infinite Crisis, actually. He's already powerless by the time 52 begins, which starts at the end of IC and ends at the beginning of all the One Year Later issues of DC's comics. Other than those, just get the Action Comics and Superman issues that say "One Year Later" on the cover and you should be fine.

I would love to see that line in a comic.
(Even if "reckoning" is misspelled.)

Yes Superman lost his powers, and I like it that way for now. Sure he'll have his powers back soon, but for just Clark Kent it opens up a whole lot of doors for what goes on when Big Blue is not around.

Right now clark is gonna have to forced into a situation to get back his powers. I mean he turned down being a frekin lantern.

That was silly to me. How are they gonna justify his getting off his ass even when his powers come back now? He had even better resources at his disposal with the GL ring, but he turned it down in favor of a normal life. I guess the ring will be the turning point, since Hawkgirl and Hal said if he doesn't want the ring he's gotta just be a normal civilian and stay out of the heroes' way completely. Going cold-turkey instead of having one foot still in like he's had for the last year will probably just gradually make him realize that he really does want to get back in the game and then his powers'll return.

Well, I really really loved the way and reason he turned down the ring. I've been totally loving the OYL powerless Superman angle, and I have faith that the Johns/Busiek team can make the return of powers and heroing logical and true to Clark Kent.

great storyline so far, up there with Batman/ Detective and Robin as the best title OYL.

Well it does however look like he gets his powers back next issue because if you notice they show him in his outfit from here on out on the cover and part 5 previews talk about him being Superman.

You mean the issue coming out in May? It's possible he'll get his powers back....

Yea the next AC he gets his powers back which is this Wed. Because if you read the preview for part 5 it says :

After the startling revelations of ACTION COMICS #838, a damaged, vulnerable Clark Kent tries to continue as Superman — even though a legion of villains — including Silver Banshee and Hellgrammite — are coming after him! Meanwhile, Luthor's discovery from last issue may be the key to destroying Superman and seizing control of Metropolis once and for all. Plus, meet the newest addition to Superman's rogues gallery: Virus!

Which leads me to think his powers start to come back next issue.

i really kind of wanted him to take the ring for an issue and so something really badass with it.

I wanted him to take the ring and then have the Guardians recall Hal and be like, "wtf, Jordan?" :p

AC 838 was delayed so are we going to have Superman 652 come out before AC? That will piss me of if it happens.
