I was interested that Wayne Manor was burned down, yet obviously the Bat identity is still secret, so whoever attacked did not share knowledge with the world.

During my second watch I thought about that. I reckon they'll tackle it in the solo film. Which I think will either be a prequel or modern day with prequel flashbacks. Personally I'm down for either.

Even the cop in the beginning where we first see Batman lurking in the corner admits it's the first time he ever "saw him" while the other cop mentions to not shoot at the "good guys". I liked that scene.

batman can't kill?
superman should have done all the right thing?

well, you will barely find one.

but you will find a lot of "things should be done this way and that way..."

Why did Lex want Batman dead? Just because...?

Why did Lois throw the spear into the water? And subsequently, how did she know they would need to it defeat Doomsday? And, not a plot hole, but the fact that she did both of those and managed to get herself trapped somehow is pathetic on her part, and poor writing.

If Superman died, how did he mail the ring to Lois at the end? When did he have time to do that?

The whole fight between Superman and Batman could have been avoided if Superman had just said "Lex has my mother, help me stop him."

Please explain why Lex had a server room that was right across from the kitchen in his house. And if he had access to such vital information, why did he have ZERO security on it? No guards, no locks, no cameras, nothing. It doesn't take the world's greatest detective to walk into an open room with access to all of the information and plug something in.

Diana gets off the plane to go help Batman and Superman fight Doomsday. Practically speaking, her luggage was already in the cargo area of the plane and all she had was her carry on. I'm making a couple of assumptions here, but I don't think she would leave her sword and shield behind. So she must have gotten them through security at the airport in her carry on. I am both impressed and scared.

Or they could have covered their butt by emphasizing the thing Lex said.. "it will be broadcast so if you try to say anything Martha dies"

Among the little things that bug me....
-Batman doesnt steal the kryptonite at the dock for the sake of having a showcase for the batmobile.....
-He places a tracker on the truck and could have broke in to steal it once it got to its destination, which would then lead to a vehicle chase if script need be..

We don't know how sophisticated what Batman plugged in was. Wasn't your average flash drive.

Why did Lex want Batman dead? Just because...?
He wanted Superman dead. Not Batman. I mean, Lex knew Batman has Kryptonite. He didn't expect Batman to defeat Superman? If anyone could do it, it's Batman. If Clark attacks Bruce, he will be enraged even more. And he was. Why Clark attacked? He wanted to calm down Batman, convince him he can't do anything and needs to listen. It was a mistake on his part, but he wasn't aware of kryptonite.
Why did Lois throw the spear into the water?
She was afraid for Clark. What if someone else gets it to hurt him?
And subsequently, how did she know they would need to it defeat Doomsday?
A bit of a stretch (it needed a little bit more exposition), but she was talking before that how Lex's ship is drawing energy from the city. She knew there's something wrong going on. At that point nobody knew what, but when the beast appeared, it's pretty clear she could solve 2+2 and figure out that that thing is from the ship and Krypton. And Kryptonite can help against it. Even as just a guess.
And, not a plot hole, but the fact that she did both of those and managed to get herself trapped somehow is pathetic on her part, and poor writing.
It's your opinion, I think it's quite believable.
If Superman died, how did he mail the ring to Lois at the end? When did he have time to do that?
Any time before the battle against Batman?
The whole fight between Superman and Batman could have been avoided if Superman had just said "Lex has my mother, help me stop him."
He tried.

Who freaking cares about this insanely minor ****? Should Lex really be worried if some cooks or rich guests are going to connect complex technology to communication lines and steal heavily encrypted **** from his servers? Like other fantasy and sci-fi movies don't have similar nonsense... Explain to me sonar or finger blueprints reconstruction from a bullet from TDK first... Or magic leg-brace. Or vaporiser in Batman Begins... Or Thor's hammer's logic. Jesus. Nitpicking is absurd. I wish all movies were picked apart like this.

I'll take it as humor nitpicking.

Then Batman would kill Superman. The end.

He wasn't fast enough? They were relocating it. So he put a tracker on it.
He places a tracker on the truck and could have broke in to steal it once it got to its destination, which would then lead to a vehicle chase if script need be..
He couldn't know where they're relocating in. So how does he know it will be a cakewalk or even possible? It's easier to get it now, than count chances later.

I've seen it twice and was still confused about a number of things.

1. Was Lex always in control of the big piece of kryptonite in the Indian Ocean? So the import license was denied by Finch but he was still able to bring it to America?
2. What did the returned checks actually accomplish? Bruce steals the kryptonite after getting them so I was confused why Lex was sending those. Was he egging him on to steal the Kryptonite?
3. What was the main purpose of the capitol bombing? Superman was absolved very quickly after so it wasn't to set him up. Was it just to hurt Superman psychologically?

He was attempting to get it legally imported, but being denied, simply smuggled it in.
My only problem with this is that Bruce was onto the White Portuguese (the ship, though Bruce thought it was a person, the K-rock was smuggled in on) BEFORE Lex resorted to smuggling the Kryptonite in on the ship. So, why was the White Portuguese on Bruce's radar in the first place? Maybe Lex already had things set in motion to be ready to smuggle the K-rock if he needed to resort to it?
Or maybe he was already smuggling things on the ship, like the original sliver of Kryptionite he had?

2. What did the returned checks actually accomplish? Bruce steals the kryptonite after getting them so I was confused why Lex was sending those. Was he egging him on to steal the Kryptonite?

He was stoking Bruce's rage. I guess Lex did not know that Bruce wasn't seeing them til recently, but that did not prevent them from serving their purpose once he did see them.

I still think that Lex wanted Batman to steal the Kryptonite. I just wish we actually got to see him steal it. Instead we just get a Batarang left at the crime scene. Because, you know, Batman needs to make it knows when he breaks the law.

3. What was the main purpose of the capitol bombing? Superman was absolved very quickly after so it wasn't to set him up. Was it just to hurt Superman psychologically?

While people knew that he did not cause the explosion, it still served it's purpose to further divide people on Superman, and further show the potential dangers he attracts.

Also, the philosophical question the scene was meant to pose, if Superman knew about/detected the bomb, why did he not do something about it. And if he did not know about the bomb, why not? Even Clark asks this of himself after.
It was meant to play off the omniscient/omnipotent dichotomy. Obviously Superman is no all knowing, nor all powerful, but relative to a human, he may as well be from their perspective.

So either Superman CAN'T save everyone, or he won't. Lex wanted to put that in everyone's faces, as well as the repercussions of Superman's actions and interventions, even his mere existence.

I don't see how people can be confused by seeing people respond irrationally to such an event, when we see precisely that every single day in our world.

People reacting irrationally/emotionally to events we can see clearly are not Superman's fault is not a plot hole, nor bad writing. It's exactly the opposite. It's reality.

Thanks for the answers. Clears some things up. I too was confused about the White Portuguese since Bruce was onto it from the very beginning.

WOW. Brilliant explanation of the purpose of that scene. Damn, I have to start appreciating it now. I didn't appreciate the scene before since it robbed Superman of a chance to voice his POV and thoughts and feelings but well now I can't unsee it from this new perspective that Lex wanted the world to see that Superman wasn't all knowing and all powerful.

Thanks for your explanation!

Probably same way he figured out Superman was Clark Kent.
It's never really shown.

Speaking of secret IDs, I was disappointed we never got anything with Bruce figuring out who Superman was.
I mean the point of the film was about how blinded and single minded he'd become, and figuring out his secret ID might have conflicted with how they resolved their fight.
Of course he could have learned who he was without learning everything about his life.

They kinda gloss over the revelation that Superman knows who Batman is.
I guess it's implied that he deduced it after the party scene, listening in on Bruce snooping.

They could have had Bruce throw out a verbal nod to their party conversation, indicating he had figured out he was the reporter, or something. I don't know.

Bruce finding out who Kal is has always been one of my favourite moments in other media adaptations and comics.

Yeah, I totally agree with this! I don't understand why Batman was the only one to not know the other people's identities. Sure, I can understand that Clark used his X-ray vision to find out who Batman was when they faced off or when he met him for the first time. I understand Luthor could have picked up on Bruce and Clark through his various methods of surveillance and the fact that he is supposed to be a super evil genius.

But Batman, the greatest detective on Earth couldn't figure out who Superman was. Now I get the point that they were saving that reveal for the fight when Superman says "Martha" to have a major impact on Batman, but still it irks me that he was the only one left in the dark up till that point.

Luthor knowing the identities of the entire league before they even form is also a bit of a stretch and a very weird plot point.

Good questions. Here's mine...

I keep reading that Lex had daddy issues and this was his reason for hating Superman. I seem to have missed that. Can someone shed light on what he said.

Was it stated why Lex created Doomsday?

I too have that first question but in a slightly different manner. I would like to know exactly who this Lex Luthor is. Is his father the real Lex Luthor and is this Alex Luthor Jr.? Is this the final Lex that we know and love or will his father have anything to do with Superman in the future? In the comics was his father's name Lex Luthor too or was it Lionel Luthor like in Smallville? I'm really confused about the father son Lex situation.

And to answer your second question, "If man won't kill God, the Devil will do it." He wanted to kill Superman at any cost.

Yeah the father thing is interesting. I don't think they spent enough time on it.

I was curious about Doomsday because essentially he was creating another Super Powered being that no one would be able to stop, so what was the purpose. Also, by adding his blood to the mix, was that giving Doomsday life since he was using a corpse to provide the body? Or giving Lex control somehow over the creation? I'm lost on that too.

1. What exactly happened in Africa that triggered these senate hearings? How is a bunch of people being shot Superman's fault? He saved American lives and now the government wants him to answer for it because.... why?

2. How does Lex know who Clark is? He apparently has already figured it out since he used Lois as bait, but the fact that it isn't even touched on is odd. Does he know Batman's as well?

3. Why did Superman break the batmobile in the middle of a chase and just let the guys Batman was pursuing go on their way?

4. Why didn't Superman go save Martha after he and Batman reconciled? How did Alfred figure out where he is? The answers to this are probably in the movie, I just can't remember.

5. Why did Lex create Doomsday to begin with? He knew Batman had the kryptonite and set it up so those two would fight. That came out of nowhere and the only real answer is because Snyder wants this movie to have a big over the top 3rd act climax.

6. Why Superman didn't bother explaining the situation to Batman before he decided to start punching back is just ridiculous, but I'm sure there won't be a satisfying answer to this one so maybe I should just scratch it.

7. Why didn't Wonder Woman use the spear against Doomsday? Obviously it's because Snyder and co. wanted that ending but it doesn't make any sense given that there was someone who could physically handle themselves against Doomsday right next to him.

My best answers for your last few questions. Don't know if they'll be satisfying.

4. Batman told him to go to the crash site and deal with Lex. The editing makes it seem like it took him 5 minutes or so to get there because it's all during the warehouse sequence, but I just chalk that up to crosscutting.

5. I feel like he did it as a last resort. He had an intricate plan, but since it didn't work, he activated Doomsday. Could be wrong.

6. He does try, he says, "Lex is trying--" and then gets attacked. After that he surely has a moment to tell him and doesn't. It's just one of those dramatic movie things, unfortunately.

7. Many have asked this too. The best I found is that it was an intense battle, he didn't really have time to strategize with WW while she was battling with Doomsday. He makes a split second decision and does it.

EDIT:
I think with #2, it's implied that Lex just knows everyone's secret, especially because of the contents of the hard drive. I assume that Clark finds out about Bruce when he rips the doors off the batmobile. I'm hoping the extended cut clears up a lot of these things we're asking about.

Thanks for the answers, that did help a bit

Adding to the Doomsday questions, how did Lex know he would be able to create Doomsday with Zod's body? He asked the government dude for the body before he entered the ship, so he must've had it in mind already. But how?

He just wanted a kryptonian body to experiment on and a way to access the ship. The notion of creating Doomsday came after he got all that knowledge.

Lois tells them about the ship, Batman obviously can't get into it and investigate so they sort of assigns tasks. Batman goes for Martha and Superman goes to the ship. I know Alfred said something about how he tracks and finds Martha but I can't rememberwhat he said. Alfred had been listening to everything all that time. Perhaps some other posters could explain.

His plan A was for Batman to kill Superman, and his plan B was Doomsday.

Yeah, he should have tried a little more

The spear is only recovered after Superman almost drowns, when he recovers it you can see WW restraining Doomsday with the lasso, so she was too busy fighting him, Superman doesn't know who she is, he doesn't know if she could get killed or hurt, and superman being superman wouldn't put the burden on her or risk a life. I also think he feels a little guilty in a way because that monster was kryptonian.
At least this is how I saw it.

I only watched the movie once, so i've been wondering a few things like: Why didn't Superman go save his own mother, instead of fighting Batman? I really don't remember if there was a reason to it.

This is discussed in all those interviews. His presence triggered the killings, he's not blamed for being the one who killed them, I mean, all that village was obviously shot, Superman doesn't kill people with bullets, the matter in discussion was his mere presence which cause the killings. They were discussing if Superman should be allowed to intervene in foreign affairs. If he should be allowed to work on his own.

In that specific case it lead to an entire village getting killed. This is why that interviewer asked senator Finch if the next time a girl needed to be rescued they should tell her parents "sorry, we have laws that won't allow him to intervene, she's gonna die" or something along those lines.

He didn't know where she was. Lex didn't know where she was either since he told his henchmen not to reveal the location to him. Her mouth was taped IIRC so she couldn't scream out for Clark.

Oh, ok. He should be able to sniff, like a dog.

And how did Batman know where she was? Well, he's Batman...

Alfred managed to locate Anatoli at the warehouse by tracking the signal of his phone.
