In your opinion.

In mine :

ultimate spidey has been outshining 616 for a good while now.

Ultimate x-men is better than 616 (though i am trade waiting for brubaker)

And ultimates vs new avengers? Well make mine ultimate again.

I dropped 616 FF post waid so I dunno but millar's run has been excellent.

Its a lot easier to write something when you font have to deal with 40 ****ing years of continuity and where your character hasnt even turned 16 after 6 years.

We're not discussing ease of writing, we're discussing quality of story. I really don't care if a writer had to struggle for days to make something work or sneezed it out in an afternoon as long as the quality is there.

Regardless continuity is a double edge sword IMO it makes somethings more difficult and somethings easier. In that one could say its easier to write things that have been written before than something new.

When has the Ultimate Universe ever been better than 616? Even with Marvel's lagging quality lately, 616 still outshines Ultimate by a wide margin.

Since it, you know, started.

Marvel was in a slump till the ultimate titles came along and revitalise it. I know it brought tonnes of people back to comics and marvel, while 616 was getting boring. The only title in 616 im remotely interested in is civil war, and even then it has a defining writer from the ultimate titles on it.

LOL! Youre funny, the Ultimate titles didnt bring Marvel out the slump, the movies did. And as you can see today almost every 616 incarnation of ultimate titles outsells its ultimate counterpart, so really you have no basis for that statement.

ULTIMATE WOLVERINE VS. HULK is simply another example of Marvel being so desperate to attract the "cool kid" writers from Hollywood that they'll throw them ANY project under the sun, regardless of the fact that for most, comic writing is clearly their 'hobby' job and they're under little obligation to not let issues fall very, very late. Marvel made this mistake with Kevin Smith and hasn't learned since.

Of course, when the EIC of Marvel apparently has no idea of how his day-to-day schedule will compound his ability to write/draw a monthly mini series, perhaps expecting them to be more efficient in planning series elsewhere is asking a bit.

The bottom line is the first two issues sold well. They got your money. So its a success. Issue #3 will come out on the 11th of "whenever the hell we feel like it" and it'll sell well too, and whatever. The reason why Marvel is so quick to spit out books without seeming to be able to fathom whether they'll ship on time or not is simple; they want your money, and to strike while the iron is hot. One could say that some "setbacks" are impossible to predict, but on the other hand, a failure to be able to predict certain setbacks in the current comic medium, espeically when things like late books are hardly a "new" problem, is inefficient at best.

I agree that Marvel needs to stop hiring hollywood talent who don't understand what a deadline is. I think Peter David would have done a fine job with the series si nce he has written kick ass wolvie/hulk fights before.

Yeah well by that logic, peter parker and co should be 60.

so are you saying that when the ultimate titles came out, they weren't top of the sales charts for years? I have back issues of wizard that proves you wrong. Go back and look at the charts. Ultimate spidey, x men and the ultimates OWNED the charts for a long, long time.

I dont know about ultimates recently, i havent read them in forever except ultimates, and I know that out sells almost everythign at marvel when it eventually hits market.

Maybe when they first came out yes, but im talking about today. Check out the sales charts if you dont believe me.

Nice beginning to this story, but I could care less if it ever finishes now. Same thing happened with Secret War and Spidey/Black Cat.

Yeah, but 616 doesn't even care about those 40 years of continuity anymore. Look at Amazing Spidey, his origin's changed, Gwen's become a ****e, or Captain America, Bucky didn't die, he was found and brainwashed by Russian scientists, Xavier formed another X-Team while the original was MIA with a third Summers brother, continuity don't mean $#!t these days in Marvel, if something doesn't fit, just change history in a flashback.

Oh I dont doubt that today they have gone down in chart sales...the stories seem to have gotten ALOT weaker (x men from about ult. x men volume 7 , blockbuster). But when they first come out they helped marvel kick ass again. It was down to the movies too, but they boosted marvels sales a lot and kicked ass for a very long time.

Even today's top selling marvel titles are written by the top ultimate talent such as bendis and millar, and whenever a n issue of ultimates comes out it ususally sits top of the charts.

Ok. I never said they did, and im not talking about retcons. Im talking about that in titles like USM, Peter Parker will most likely be 15 for another 5 years, unlike in 616 where they gradually aged them.

I hope you realize Bendis and Millar didnt start their Marvel careers on Ultimate titles.

No, but what made them mega starts?

Ultimates, Ultimate X Men and Ultimate Spidey.

I don't think that's up for debate, is it?

It could be, but I wont.

Please do. I dont mind being wrong, but I genuinely dont think or recall any title of theirs selling as well as said ultimates title, and for as long periods of sucess as the ultimate titles.

No, I dont think any other titles sold through the roof like Ultimate did.

Thats what I meant.....because that's ultimately what makes a writer rise in companies like marvel. But even the most ardent ultimate haters cant say the titles were badly written (for the first few years anyway) can they?

Millar started out with stuff like skull kill krew, so moving up to that position is really a testament to his talent, imo.

hey Horrorfan, what happened to Lost being overrated and people who like it being sheep?
