Radio host uses the N-word repeatedly

This whole word needs to go away. NO ONE should say it. Whites, Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, WHATEVER!

It's a stupid word made up by a bunch of rednecks, probably because they couldn't say Nero (Spanish for black btw).

Funny thing is that Redneck is and offensive term also.

And I think you mean negro is Spanish for black, and that comes from the Latin word niger.

Actually the N-word originally meant ignorant person. They said it in Europe way before the 13 colonies separated from England.

Unless you have the ability to erase it from the minds of every person in the world, it's not gonna happen. The word itself has been etched into people's brains spanning decades, so there is little to no chance of that word ever being stripped from vocabulary. Racism itself is an issue that has plagued people for generations, you can gather people, protest, fight, whatever. It's still gonna persist, the best way to combat racism is to not give into it. Any word can become a slur depending on how you say it.

There's slurs for every ethnic group in the world. Blacks don't have the monopoly on it.

what people fail to realize is that we owe alot to every race. Each race has it's place in the world because each one has contributed something that every race can benefit from. So any one being stating that their race did everything and deserves all the credit is truly ignorant.

Yup, blacks also aren't the only ones who use said racial slurs amongst themselves as a term of endearment either. It's just in the general consciousness more so because of black comedians and hip hop music.

Ah, I always figured some moron hurt a Spanish/Latin American guy calling a black guy "Negro" & that's how the n word started. Fail for me.

I have Black friends and when the topic of race comes up it's like they have a big chip on their shoulder. No Blacks living today have no idea what it's like to be a slave at all and the ones that are 30 and younger have no idea what it's like to have dogs turned on them or what its like to have high pressured fire hoses turned on them. It's cool for them to remember that s*** , but learn from it and don't let it dominate you. My grandpa could've told the Army recruiters to f*** off when they asked him to enlist during World War 2 while his family was placed in an intermit camp , but he didn't. Instead of being angry about it he fought for change.

What's funny is that very few people mind the many, many slurs against native americans that are around us in culture.

Why?

Because the whites succeeded in killing enough native americans that they no longer make up a sizable voting block.

So, before we deal with the N-word, maybe all of you who are offended should try to ban the native americans slurs first...but you won't...because you don't really care...and only act offended by the N-word in casual use because it's PC to do so. So, until you guys take a stand against native american slurs...realize that you are hypocrites.

I get what you saying, but at the same time, just because blacks have it better doesn't mean they don't still deal with racism to this day. It's far less likely to be the in your face "go back to Africa" stuff of the past but it's still there. Housing discrimination, redlining, pay and medical discrepancies based on race are still very real problems that minorities face today.

I have quite a bit of respect for Native Americans, the land was theirs first. Had a couple of friends who were full blooded Native Americans, cant remember what tribe that their family was from, but they were very cool down to earth people, can drink a person under the table :cwink:

My grandfather was full blooded cherokee...but you wouldnt know it by looking at me. The point is...NO ONE has been persecuted in America like the Native Americans have...and yet we name our sports teams after racial slurs...and few whites or blacks care at all.

I agree to an extent...Thing is unless you live in certain parts of the country odds are you've never met someone who is Native American before. It is a bit hard to know that something is an offensive term when the people you'd offend aren't around to complain about it.

I myself live in the southwest where there is a pretty sizable Native American population so certain issues are much more a part of my consciousness than it would be for someone who lives in Vermont.

Though when it does come to national attention it's pretty much met with what you would expect, the majority doesn't care and thinks the offended parties are being hypersensitive.

I hardly think it is acceptable to basically say "Americans dont care about racist slurs against the indians because we killed most of them". In fact, it's worse.

And you're right...every time the native americans mention how offensive it is to name sports teams their version of the n-word, Americans laugh and say "go back to your teepee".

My great-grandmother was also Cherokee but I couldn't tell you if I inherited that as well. Native Americans do deserve alot of credit, but we never see anyone go out of there way to give them that credit.

I'm not saying it's acceptable, I'm just saying that's the reality of the situation. If there were more Native American's around and they had more political clout I'm sure it'd be more of an issue. Like I said, I live in the Southwest where there's a large Native American population and that's probably the only reason I even know some terms are offensive.

I've only met 3 Native Americans so far. One is a Christian fundie , the other one was dressed in full Native garb and the other one was the stereo typical drunken Indian. Of course I didn't care for him because he was hitting on the same chick I wanted.

As I stumbled onto before, the Hype has blocked the word *****rdly even though it has ZERO connection to black people or racism. The word means reluctant to give or spend; stingy; miserly and dates back to the 1520's, before slavery existed in America...and before America even existed as it's own country. So, why does this word get blocked? Why did a professor who used it end up in a national scandal? Because the word kinda sorta looks like a word used to degrade black people? That is stupid.

*****rdly isn't blocked though, if it was the rdly wouldn't appear. It's just that n**** is blocked so it doesn't appear in the word, even though they're unrelated.

I have a perfect solution for dealing with race!!!

Not giving a **** what people say!

They have some great names too. I have a documentary-drama made by the BBC on three 'legends' of the Wild West. General Custer and the Battle of Little big Horn, Billy the Kid and his shootings and Wyatt Earp with the shootout at the O.K Corral. The segment to do with Little Big Horn and the indian leaders such as Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull is in part explained by an articulate, intelligent and fascinating man with a superb name: Ron His Horse is Thunder!

I'm going to state an unpopular opinion which may be unpalatable for others. Which is that I think the hysteria surrounding the use of the "N" word is ridiculous and banal. The fact one isn't allowed to type it shows a lack of maturity. It seems when someone makes a gaffe by using the word there's a sudden uproar and certain figures from the "African-American community" (why not "American"?) will begin to cry and try to play the victim. It's irritating, childish to the extreme and utterly self-serving. It isn't a nice word, in fact it's a vulgar word used to disparage people who only have darker skin pigmentation. Of course we know that. However, the extreme reaction to the use of the word isn't justified and it only reinforces the belief of some that we live in a society highly geared towards political correctness where freedom of speech isn't practiced because there is risk of causing major offence to one section of society. This infantile response must stop otherwise nothing will change.

The people who cry fowl when the word is used today. Try living in the 1800s when you were whipped or raped and had to live on a plantation, enduring baking heat while doing back-breaking work. Think of their struggle for emancipation and equal rights so that successive generations could enjoy the same basic freedoms and rights as everyone else. This is how they treat that gift? Crying out like children as if they've suffered hardship? Dr. Martin Luther King, a man who was a visionary, one of high intellect and reason, who delivered a stunning speech on the steps of Lincoln memorial. His speech which easily gives me the chills through its sheer power and clarity would be dismayed that the word is still used today, he would also be dismayed at the political correctness surrounding it too. Unfortunately for black Americans, they're bound by shackles they'll probably never break.

Well said Mach2Infinity. It would appear that many groups use past things to shackle themselves.

The Feminist movement in many way alienates woman who choose to be stay at home moms. Wasn't the point to the whole movement. To have freedom of choice?

Black people look down upon other blacks who choose to educate themselves. They say they are acting too white.

It is just insane.

Correction, some black kids look down on a formal education.

I'll let somebody else field the above commentary, I'll get carpal tunnel responding to it.
