Radio host uses the N-word repeatedly

Where's the confusion.

blacks using the N-word = reminder of common struggle

whites using the N-word = reminder of centuries of persecution

I think some whites make it more confusing than it is.

Have you not read any internet sites, read a newspaper, watched the news....the majority of the world lives in a state of confusion about everything.

Well if the two choices are:

1) Use the word in multiple contexts including solidarity

2) Preserve the word exclusively for persecution

I'd prefer the first option.

I prefer the 3rd option...NO ONE use it.

I could not choose an option, neither is good. But you bring up an interesting point.

Even if every minority in the world stopped using racial or other type of slurs(like the f-word) or symbols like swastikas ...white supremacist or racists or bigots would still use those words and symbols to belittle and demean others. Once the negative meaning is there, there's no way to really purge ourselves of it...

I prefer the 3rd option...NO ONE use it.

If white bigots agree to never use the N-word then maybe blacks will do the same. But I don't see white bigots signing such a treaty anytime soon.

And that's the difference between you and me...I call for all people to act together and not use an offensive racist word......and you call for one group to do it first.

It won't matter if blacks stop using it. Racist whites will never let the word go.

You're denying reality.

I'm denying nothing....but you seem angry about it. If ONLY racist whites were to use the word....then there would never be a question as to it's intent or meaning. Then anyone who used it would be announcing to the world..I AM A RACIST. They wouldn't be able to hide behind shady meanings or percieved nuances....if anyone used the word, they would be racist. And I am saying that the non use of the word has to start somewhere. I don't use it. I don't allow my family to use it. If I hear someone use it in public I let them know I disapprove. When it comes down to ONLY racists using it....then there will be no question by anyone that it is an offensive term that does not need to be said.

Sorry but I don't see any advantage to preserving the word for persecution.

If anything, blacks using it for solidarity is the last thing white racist would want. As confusing as that may be to the white public it does serve as an effective counter-measure.

White racists aren't worried or sad that blacks use it too...they laugh about it and use it as another thing on thier lists of what's wrong with minorities.

Racist whites can spin it however they want, it doesn't change the fact that blacks use it for solidarity in a way that counters the intended use of the word.

Your intent may be for solidarity...but I think it is doing the opposite. Not only does it seperate many blacks...but the racists are glad you use it too. You are strengthening them in thier racist views.

Racist will use everything about blacks as fuel for their hate speech, even our lips and noses. Would you suggest plastic surgery as a solution?

Now you're just being argumenative and silly. I keep speaking of doing things to end racist behavior and you seem to be encouraging it. We have nothing else to discuss. Good day.

So it's ok for Blacks to use the N word for solidarity , but no Whites can use it because that would be racist ? That sure makes alot of sense there.:whatever:

I don't even know what fictional group you're talking about. Dont really care either.

My point was that people use words or symbols however they please. The Nazis took a symbol of the Hindu faith and used it incorrectly as a symbol of hate. That does not make the symbol evil. So, I created a fictional hate group that used the Ghost Busters logo as an example.

I created a fictional slur...Nugget...and suggested that the word alone is not a slur...but ANY word used in the appropriate negative context is a slur. If I look at a black guy and yell "You stupid NKJGYFY" then that just became a slur...but it is stupid to give that collection of letters power over your emotions.

Symbols and words only have the power we allow them to have over us.

Remember when a professor used the word *****rdly and got fired and caused a massive uproar??? *****rdly means "stingy". It has NOTHING to do with black people. However, people gave that word the power of bigotry for no reason other than ignorance of it's real definition.

So yeah...in a conversational or educational context, the N-word is not a bad word to use. When using it as a weapon against someone's emotions, then it is...but ANY word can be used as a weapon.

My US History professor used the N-word in class during one his lectures. Sure it was in a historical context , but there was some big black dudes in the class. It took balls of steel to do that. I've had respect for him ever since then.

When blacks use the term with each other it loses its persecutory connotation, so it does make sense. :yay:

Why did it take balls for him to do that? Seriously it's not like it's some trigger word that sends black people into a violent rage. I think some of you guys watch too many movies.

It's because back in my day if a white guy said that , no matter the context , he tended to get his ass kicked. That's why I said it took balls for him to say it.

It took balls because people get fired over saying that word...even if it is in an educational way.

I had a friend who was manager at a store. One day he overheard employees saying some off color things. At the next store meeting, while they were closed and no customers were in the building, he said something like "hey guys, lets make a point to never say anything that can be deemed offensive by our customers on the sales floor. Saying words like *** or ****** could hurt someone's feelings if they overheard you and we could lose that customer"

My friend was fired for saying those words.

He had to say it because he was quoting some dude and the n word happened to be in there. I kinda doubt he would've been fired since he's been saying it for years.

That's a much different situation than what Scourge2099 described. The situation you're talking about was in business setting, while the the situation Scourge brought up was in an educational institution that focuses on history.

Working in a business environment you have to know how to tread carefully when it comes to some topics. You friend could have gotten fired for saying other profane words also, so it's wasn't exclusive to the n-word. It's sucks but that's how the business world can be sometimes.

In a classroom setting certain things HAVE to be discussed so some things can't logically be censored all the time. If you're in a history class and you get the certain periods of time the word is going to come up.

It's because back in my day if a white guy said that , no matter the context , he tended to get his ass kicked. That's why I said it took balls for him to say it.

But that obviously isn't always the case otherwise there'd be tons of reports of white guys getting the crap beaten out of them in the south from the 1960 and onward.

It'll be pretty disgusting if she keeps her show after this. She completely ignored the woman's problem-which is her ****ing husband was sitting there and letting his friends insult her-just so she could go on a stupid political rant and use the n-word for shock value. Maybe someone should call her up and spout the k-word 11 times since Mel Brooks makes Jew jokes all the time. *****.

I'm white (as hell) my wife is even whiter, I don't give a damn about blacks reserving the n-word for themselves. I get the irony that is meant by it. It's just like me calling myself white boy or whatever. People who whine about blacks using it when they "can't" use it say that because they want to say it and mean it. At least that's how it comes off to me.

Regardless that woman's husband should have told his friends to stop disrespecting his wife or the blackest things in his house would be their eyes after he got through with them. What kind of MAN lets people insult his wife? *****e.
