I saw trailer. It looked meh!!! A little better than I thought.

I love POTC2!!!!! Best movie of the summer. I liked superman also, but Pirates has it beat.

For those of you who liked/loved/understood this movie explain this to me.
Jack ditching the pearl. What the **** was with that? I thought that was so out of character. The first one was all about his love for the Pearl, I can't believe he ditched it for any reason. I realize he came back, and i realize that Jack "looks out for himself." But in POTC it was shown that the Pearl was important to him. I really didn't get that scene, can someone explain?

I think at that point he really wanted to go back for the heart of Davey Jones. But realized that it made no difference either way, so he just accepted it and decided to stand his ground.

I think basically they're building up his heart and just surprising people that he'll do the right thing.

i'm about to go see it, i'll vote afterwards

In a summer of weak movies, the Pirates rule! This was the summer's best movie, but it wasn't great. It was really good, but not great. I felt there were too many rum jokes, and some of Davey Jones' crewmembers looked goofy, due to CGI. Also, I don't remember any explanation on how he became a fish thing. The movie still had a good story, good cliffhanger, and was solid.

Also, bad poll choices. I feel it was the summer's best movie, but the first was easily better.

The first movie blew, I really weep for modern society. These phoney, adversity-less wuss *****e nozzles like Orlando Bloom and Jake Gyllenhaal and worst of all Zach Braff get these lame masses of annoying people to reward their awfulness with top leading man careers. They're more like power bottoms. **** them and **** their fans

Did anyone else notice that this movie was a 2 hour and 40 minute set up for the third. Nothing was resolved at all. Every story line that was started wasn't finished. It's one thing to have a cliffhanger but when the whole plot is left unanswered it's a bit annoying. I did enjoy seeing Barbosa again. That was pretty cool.

All in all I enjoyed the movie. I'm not a fan of the plot as you can read above but there was lots of action and amazing special affects. Not better than the first but no worse either. Great summer flick.

self-preservation

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" is a wonder to behold and certainly improves upon the sequel. This film is bigger and better than the entertaining first entry into the trilogy. A more accurate way of describing the movie is to call it the "Empire Strikes Back" of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga. It's more darker and much more deeper. Captain Jack is back in a big mess with the famed supernatural sea captain known as Davey Jones, who is wonderfully played by Bill Nighy. Nighy's Davy Jones will go down as one of hollywood's greatest villians. Yes, he is that good.

Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) return as well and they're thrust back into Jack's world to ensure their freedom from Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander). Hollander manages to make Lord Beckett a slimy villian that we usually see in the Bond films. Along for the ride are some old regulars from the last film, including former Commodore Norrington (Jack Davenport). Norrington. Orlando Bloom seems much more confident in this film and Keira Knightley looks to be having alot of fun with her character. In the first film, the two young actors seemed cautious with their roles, but in "Dead Man's Chest", we finally get to see characters and not just caricatures. Ah! And how can I forget the wonderful Jack Sparrow?! He was the strong point of the film and without Johnny Depp's memorable performance, there would be no sequel(s). Here, he continues to remind us why we love the mischevious scallywag known as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Zimmer's score beautifully expands on his protege Klaus Badelt's score for the first film without treading on it and creating a completely different tone. It is more epic and more emotional. The story is quite complicated but if you take some time to analyze it, you will understand it. Alot does happen and sometimes it can make your head spin, but it's not enough to make you go crazy. I do have some minor quibbles about the film and one of them is that I felt some scenes dragged on like they did in "The Curse of the Black Pearl". The film could've shaved off 10-15 minutes, but I still enjoyed the film thoroughly. It is the best mainstream summer film.

Rating: 9/10

I thought this was probably the movie of the summer. It was very great and fun all around, but I also found it kind of annoying how you have to wait for the 3rd to resolve just about every plot line. It's a bit much to remember. Depp was great as usual, and the action scenes were much fun. Very shocking ending, and I can't wait to see how everything is resolved. I went to the midnight showing thinking that I'd fall asleep, but this kept me up for every minute of it. Almost everyone in the theater clapped at the end.

Rating: 9/10

What's with all this impatience. The story is being told still. Lots of Spoilers in below message.

I mean there are tons of new interesting questions to ponder. Note these questions are building on the characters from the first movie & were not introduced until this film. I also think the stories introduce merrit more than 2 hours & 30 minutes. Hence the cliff hanger whetting the appetite.

1. Why would Jack want the "Black Pearl" raised by Davy Jones?
2. Did he have a deeper connection to it than just a ticket to freedom?
3. Does the Pearl have some mystical lore to it that attracts all these wild stories.
4. Davy Jone's back story: Who is this cruel love who made him so cold?
5. What will EIT dude do with Davy Jone's heart now that he has it?
6. How will Will save his pop?
7. Will Norrington be redeemed?
8. Why does Tia Dalma have the same locket as Davy Jones?
9. Did the ring Jack took from her have any play in his fate?
10. How is Barbosa now enjoying apples & not pushing up daisies?
11. Yes will Will & Elizabeth reconcile?
12. What transpired during those 28 years Jack was not Capt of the Pearl?
13. What merrits a soul being sent to Davy Jone's locker & how is that worse than being crew on the Flying Dutchman?
14. What is at World's End?
15. What did the compass show Jack to be his heading for what he truly wanted?

Lots of fun and interesting story to be told.

Great Movie!

Thwipp!

I guess that means Empire Strikes back is 2 hour 5 minute set up for Return of the Jedi. What was resolved in that movie?

Is Depp not in it as much as the first? That's what I read in one review.

He's in the bulk of the film just like he was last time, and Knightley has plenty of screen time too despite what I'd heard before seeing the film.

One question, I will put spoiler tags on it just in case:

When Jack, Will, and Norrington are fighting over Davey Jones' heart Will wants the heart so he can kill Jones and save his dad. Norrington wants it so he can take it back to Port Royal and get his old life back. But what does Jack want to do with it? Why doesn't he let Will kill Jones?

People thought SR was a long winded rehash....

Not a bad flick, but vastly inferior to the original, and the Empire Strikes Back for that matter.

Metacritic is right on the money with this one.

I'm sure Barbossa would know. Since it seems he sailed them. And that's how he's enjoying apples.

Jack wanted to negotiate with Jones. He could make Jones do anything he wanted him to with the heart in his posession. I thought they made it very clear.

Anyway, was a sweeet movie. 2 hrs and 40 minutes? Didn't feel like it, and if anyone would know it'd be me needing to desperately drain my bladder about half an hour in. :(

I finished off my Nestea waiting in line for the moofie, so... yeah, it really sucked. But I tried that new trick where you think about sex to make the urge go away. It actually works.

i think he wanted it to bargain with davey about having the black spot taken off...and then maybe killing jones anyway or making another deal with him
