He's certainly the best Superman since Reeve. I thought he did an amazing job. From the minute I saw he I believed he was Superman .:supes:

Agreed on your first and last points but I disagree with you second one, buddy.

Reeve's presence IMO was that of a genuinely good guy and when you look at him, you wanna be his friend and you trust him.

Routh however has a presence abt him(in this movie) that is otherworldly and I looked at him in a way I didn't see Reeve...in awe.

LOL, seems like the Reeve-effect is different from person to person. i found Reeve to be awe-inspiring, intimidating but in a good way.

Routh is like a drinking buddy ;)

Routh exudes Post-Crisis Supes.

hmm, maybe that's where we're different. i'm more of a Pre-Crisis follower, and i thought Reeve gave life to Pre-Crisis Supes and gave it added dimension. but to each their own eh? ;)

Can't wait for him to do an "ENOUGH!" scene.;)
you mean Superman finally cutting loose? oh yeah! if there's something i notice about Singer, is he would really want to test the limits of Superman's strength. chucking a continent to space? pfft that was just the start of it.

Again, I commend Brandon Routh on his performance. Routh nailed what Singer asked him to do.

I really enjoyed the movie and thought Brandon did a great job. I've read reviews where they say he's stiff and not charismatic. No way do I think that. I loved every moment he was on screen. The naked hospital part wasn't too bad either. hehehehe I didn't even think about comparing Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh as Supermans during the movie. It never really came up for me. I loved all the scenes and liked how he portrayed Clark. He was funny. It still blows my mind that he grew up like 15 minutes from my house. Crazy! I work with a girl who Brandon and his sister used to babysit!! LOL!!! If she only knew he'd be Superman. I went to Norwalk High School to take my SAT's. He couldn't been sitting right by me!

Awesome movie! Awesome performances!

I voted 4 as Kal-El just because there was not much there outside of the few Smallville scenes.

A 4 as Clark Kent . I liked the way he played Clark he was mild- mannered , goofy and unasuming . I wished there was more for Clark to do in the movie .Brandon was what I think Clark to be. his best scene was the explanation of why Superman left.

I voted 5 as Superman . Like some of you have posted already when he landed the 777 and asked the reporters if they were all right. Then basking in the glory of the crowd cheering that was Superman to me.He looked and acted the part to me .Brandon Routh was simply amazing strong, confident, reassuring, relatable, relevent. I credit the writers more than anything for the Superman here in this movie in that they wrote Superman as a man relevent for our time.

I agree about the Reeve bringing life to Pre-Crisis Supes...as I've said before, Reeve will ALWAYS be my Superman.

LOL! I guess it's true though, I read mainly Post-Crisis Supes and I do feel that Routh brought it to life...I understand where you're coming from. :D

****in' A. The sequel needs to get here FAST.:(

Brandon was perfect. The real problem of this movie is Lex Luthor.

Brandon gave us what was in the script but he didn't give anything more than that something, extra that Chris Reeve gave. I think in the next film be more creative due to him being more comfortable in the role, maybe there just wasn't enough he could do with the script that Singer wrote, which had more emphasis on Lois!

i think he was better than reeves,of course reeves is superman and made us believe a man can fly but its a new timeperiod and routh is the superman

Routh was fantastic as Supes - his presence when he entered the plane after setting it down was unreal. The only time I thought Brandon dropped the ball was the scenes between him and his Mom when he just got back, but that's it.

Routh was a department store mannequin. If he's not obsessively staring, floating around, or lifting something he's lifeless...as Clark Kent or Superman. He has no charisma whatsoever. His acting and line delivery on the farm with Ma Kent was cringe-worthy...sounded like he was reading from cue cards.

I'm honestly starting to think that Singer could see this guy couldn't pull off Clark or Superman so he held him back when it came to dialogue. He barely has a conversation with anybody. Not Lois, Jimmy...hell, even Luthor. How do you face off with Lex Luthor and not say ANYTHING?!? These guys have as much history as anyone and all Superman can do is show up and attempt some half-assed scowl? Give me a break. Routh isn't HALF the Superman/Clark Kent that Reeve was. And I don't blame him completely. I blame the writers for not even giving him a chance to shine as anything more than a statue.

according to the poll.....i think we have our Superman for the new millenium!!! :D

i'll be the jerk and say it...

REEVE HAS NO S AT THE END.

for the love, you people are ccccaaaarraaaazy.

For me, Routh hit God amongst Men status with his Superman in the third act. I mean, when he does the fly away at the end of the film, I got the same reaction as I did when I saw Reeve do the same thing at the end of his films.

But, watching Routh lift that landmass into the spaces....literally sacrificing himself for mankind...and saying goodbye to Lois knowing that he might not make it....Routh's Superman became bar none next to Reeve as the Superman.

As for Bosworth, she's getting thrown under the bus mainly because her Lane is drastically different than the previous ones because her life isn't the same as it was. With the child and Richard and Superman swooping back into her life, she's a woman on a serious emotional trip. She's basically split three ways; split one way to Superman, one way to Richard, and the most important way Jason. With that all of that, Bosworth was great. It's going to be very, very interesting to see where her character goes in the sequel.

Brandon Routh IS Superman :supes:

The Legacy of Christopher Reeve now lives on in him. :supes:

Routh is a definitive version of Superman for me. Reeve is a definitive version of Superman for me...as well as Cain.

You are allowed to have more than one definitive version of Superman :)

I'm not going to compare Routh to Reeve... I don't feel that one actor's performance adds or takes away from the other's. What I will say is this... at no point during Superman Returns did I ever feel that I wasn't looking at Superman, Clark Kent or Kal-El. Routh was just right in each performance, and all I can really say is that I can't ask for anything other than that. Routh was fantastic, even if the movie didn't live up to all of my expectations.

i think routh has done a brilliant job. naive, sincere and righteous.

the only complaint would be it wasn't enough and i want more! :D

^^ i dunno, he still looks like Routh to me :p

damn, those are dark. is that from the bootleg version?

Routh completely blew me away. There was only one Clark Kent moment that I got a Reeve vibe, the rest of the time I feel he completely owned the role and made it his own.
