Justice League Real Talk - Where does the DCEU go from here? - Part 1

With JL on track to under perform at the box office, what ramifications will this have on the DCEU going forward? Surely, this will influence WB's decision to greenlight films such as Gotham City Sirens and other lesser known DC characters...

Bummer. I've gone from unbelievable levels of hype in Feb 2013 to utter numbness and apathy toward the DCEU.

this thread is turning into panic mode thanks to a newbie poster claiming to have connection with WB.

Sorry, but I'm not going to trust someone with the username literally being "wbconnections". :funny:

Unless they present some concrete proof, I'm always gonna be on the skeptical side.

It seems like WB was bracing for JL disappointment from a while back.

Wasn't it some months ago WB said how future DC films wouldn't really even be connected to the JL movie universe?

Yep. Quite foretelling once you think about it.

JL isn't killing the DCEU, if anything it kills the chances of a team up film anytime soon. We still have Aquaman, Shazam and Wonder Woman 2 to look forward to. There's also Reeves Batman which will likely launch with a new actor. Jury is still out on Flash, Superman and Cyborg getting solos but they've all been well received in JL so there's that. Suicide Squad 2 will likely be the only ensemble film we get in the foreseeable future.

Also I can't believe there are actually people who want to recast Gal Gadot, especially with someone like Daddario or Jamie Alexander.... Crazy!!! :loco:

I think WB is in a tough position. They can't scrap everything because Aquaman finished filming and Wonder Woman is largely the biggest success out of all these movies.

WB has mismanaged DC properties so much that a Justice League movie is on course to do worse than the solo movies. It should do better because you are getting more characters and more of the universe in a single movie. Instead the first ever Justice League movie comes out to no hype and does the lowest opening weekend of all the DCEU movies have done so far.

This is what happens when you build your house on a shaky foundation.

I still can't believe they went straight from Batman v. Superman's reception to having Snyder film this in London six weeks later.

I missed it what happened? :funny:

Their hands were unfortunately tied by that point. They had a release date staked out and tons of licensing and merchandise partners.

Which just goes to show there was a certain amount of hubris in scheduling an immediate sequel for a movie that wasn't out yet.

Many of us were aghast at this last year. They should've delayed it and regrouped.

Could have, should have, would have. What's done is done. I'm just praying that the other solo projects are safe.

Well I wouldn't mind an Elseworld WW movie with Daddario R rated

That Vulture article

and "it's DC Films NOT DCEU"

well if they've prepared for it, but still hinted at Remeckis/FP, that's a positive sign that they have a plan and not going to react in panic mood

Lmao at "wbconnections" saying that they'll take Aquaman off :funny:

So they can lose 200M+ and waste everyone who was involved's time?

"Sorry Mr. Wan, we're taking the movie off schedule because of JL. You can go back to doing whatever."

:funny: sure

A lot of the WB people making these decisions won't be around to make them soon. Especially with the AT&T deal going through soon.

Also, Cavill confirmed today that he still has a Superman movie on his contract (I'm assuming Amy does too)

"Go back to that Insideous universe you came from, because another film flopped"

Edit: so Henry had 4 on his contract?

They will go to James Wan and tell him he needs to reshoots half of his movie.

The scary notion is that I wouldn't be surprised if this happened.

But thankfully Wan has enough influence in the studio to tell them to back off.

a few sharks, jigsaw killer traps and annabelle should be enough for KT to wet his pants

Critics weren't happy, the fans like me aren't happy. If this is the direction of the DCEU, I don't care if it continues. Shut it down. WB are so reactionary and weak.

Wan should be fine because I don't see him making the creative choices that causes the studio to panic about the state of the movie in the first place. James Wan knows how to work in a franchise.

It's all about money. WW2 will make money, or at least should. Set it in the past, no problem with it being tricky to move forward (tonally, aesthetically, others making it crowded etc), personally i would like 70's or 80's.

AM, if it's a good movie, which we trust it will, shall make bank.

Then, start a new universe with MR as director of The Batman. Keep it as grounded as possible, in the sense of reality. No CGI backgrounds, we want it set in a world we can relate too. Biggest gripe of JL, the CG and the last half hour feeling like a cartoon - it's even more apparent when you go back and watch MOS or the first half of BvS.

Let's say 2020 is the year The Batman Hype, that would be 7 years since MOS, Cavill would be 37 and not really the actor to give another decade - would the audience want another ten making his superman around for 17 years?

Start fresh in 2020, pains me to say.

37 is young for superhero actors these days though :oldrazz:

If he's embraced enough for JL's version and hit it off with a quality director, then 15 years should be fine.

Though I agree he might be the casualty of the b.o., let's see how it does for the next 1-2 weeks first.

I think you are putting too much weight on the director. JL failed because the directors clearly failed, the writing failed, edition-wise was a failure too and the cherry on top was the obvious hand of WB mishandling the product. I wont trash-talk about the actors, but I cherry-pick just a few as good ones.
