Red Dawn Remake

while we're at it...why don't we just remake The World, the Flesh and the Devil?

watched it again the other night for the first time in ages

i would like a remake only because i want to see it done better
more realistic but still about young people TRYING to get the town back

i want this movie to scare the pants off of people who watch it
i want to really feel for the characters and id like the death scenes and the reactions to the killings being very real

The Wolverines are gathering.

Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki have been cast in MGM/UA's remake of "Red Dawn," set to begin filming in September. They join the already cast Chris Hemsworth in the story of a group of teenagers who form an impromptu insurgency when their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers.

Peck will play Matt Eckert -- the role originated by Charlie Sheen -- the hotheaded younger brother of Hemsworth's Jed Eckert and star quarterback of their Spokane high school football team. Palicki will play Toni, the role first inhabited by Jennifer Grey. She's a tough fighter the brothers encounter who develops romantic feelings for Jed, a Marine home on leave and the group's unofficial leader.

Dan Bradley, a stunt coordinator and second-unit director on "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "Quantum of Solace," will direct the revamp based on the 1984 Cold War-era film co-written and directed by John Milius. Jeremy Passmore and Carl Ellsworth penned the updated screenplay.

Contrafilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are producing, and Vince Newman is executive producing. The film is scheduled to hit theaters Sept. 24, 2010.

Peck, who is repped by UTA and the Collective, most recently appeared in "The Wackness," "Drillbit Taylor" and "What Goes Up." He again has provided the voice of Eddie in the animated sequel "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," which Fox releases July 1.

Palicki, repped by UTA and Anonymous Content, co-stars on "Friday Night Lights." She next appears in the Screen Gems thriller "Legion" in January.

Hopefully no Chinese villains this time.

I really think Red Dawn is a dated concept. I really don't know how they will pull this off without any kind of Communist paranoia, oh I know the Fox crowd will eat it up, but what about anyone else?

Yeah, I agree. I really don't think it's going to work a second time around. Hell, I'm not even sure it really worked the first time around.

Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Edwin Hodge are the newest Wolverines to join MGM/UA's "Red Dawn" remake.

They join Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki in the revamp of the 1984 action movie about a group of teenagers who form an insurgency when their town is invaded -- this time by Chinese and Russian soldiers.

Hutcherson will play Robert, originated by C. Thomas Howell, and become the group's tech geek. Lucas is Erica, head cheerleader and the Peck character's girlfriend whom he desperately hopes to spring from an internment camp. Lea Thompson played the character in the original.

Cruise is playing Daryl, the son of Spokane's mayor and Robert's best friend. And Hodge will play Danny, the coolest kid in school and star wide receiver who helps establish the resistance.

The young cast heads off in a few weeks for military training in an undisclosed location.

Dan Bradley is directing from a screenplay by Jeremy Passmore and Carl Ellsworth. Contrafilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are producing. Vince Newman and Kevin Halloran are exec producing.

The film is scheduled to begin filming next month in Detroit for a Sept. 24, 2010 release.

Hutcherson, repped by ICM and Ric Beddingfield, starred in "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "Bridge to Terabithia."

Lucas, repped by UTA and Sharron Meissner in Australia, recently appeared in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

Cruise, the 14-year-old son of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, debuted in December as the young Will Smith character in "Seven Pounds."

Hodge, repped by Global Artists Agency and Luber Roklin Entertainment, has a recurring role on Fox's "Mental" and recently appeared in the feature "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane."

Isabel Lucas? I guess showing your panties in TF2 is a good way to get noticed.

Yeah, I agree. I really don't think it's going to work a second time around. Hell, I'm not even sure it really worked the first time around.

:hehe:

Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("Watchmen") is in final negotiations to join the cast of "Red Dawn," the MGM/UA reboot of the 1984 film.

"Red Dawn" follows a group of teenagers who band together to fight back when their home town is invaded by an joint force of Chinese and Russian soldiers. Morgan will play the leader of the U.S. Special Forces team who discovers the teens' stronghold while behind enemy lines.

Morgan's currently on location in Puerto Rico as star of Joel Silver's "The Losers" for Warner Bros. and recently completed production opposite Hilary Swank in Hammer Films' thriller "The Resident."

Dan Bradley is directing "Red Dawn" from a screenplay by Carl Ellsworth & Jeremy Passmore. Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson from Contrafilm are producing with Vince Newman and Kevin Halloran exec producing.

The film is currently shooting in Michigan and will open on September 24, 2010.

Morgan is repped by UTA and Precision Entertainment

Connor Cruise? Looks like he's getting into the family business, since his dad, mom and stepmom are all actors.

At least this version of the film is not in the middle or redneck country, Colorado. I do disagree that the idea is a dated concept. If done right an invasion could seem plausible if the Chinese invaders are using it as a distraction instead of a mode of conquest. The game World in Conflict does this well with a Soviet invasion of Seattle, New York City, and a few others but does not go any further than those two cities. They serve as a distraction to continue the already heavy fighting against NATO forces in Europe during a World War III scenario.

I keep hoping this is actually RED DAWN: THE MUSICAL.

They should've switched it from a communist invasion to an alien invasion or something. That way no one gets offended.

Ha. I just read about this Aussie adaptation in pre-production

It looks like Stuart Beattie’s Aussie war epic “Tomorrow: When the War Began” has found its leading lady in 19-year old Caitlin Stasey, who will play the film’s (and possibly trilogy’s) female lead, a teenage girl name Ellie Linton. The books that the movie will be based on, John Marsden’s bestselling “Tomorrow” series of young adult reads, is told from Ellie’s perspective as she and her fellow Down Under kids help the adults repel an invasion of their homeland by unidentified forces. And yes, Aussies, she is one of you, so no need to go out into the streets to protest.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, this will be Stasey’s first feature film. Her previous ]credits include turns on Aussie TV’s long-running Neighbours show, as well as something called The Sleepover Club. She’s also currently filming a movie called “Wonder Boy”.
“Tomorrow: When The War Began” is the first of an expected movie franchise that will chronicle the invasion and occupation of Australia by a foreign power. Like the kids of “Red Dawn”, the kids of “Tomorrow”, led by teenager Ellie Linton, wages a guerrilla war against the enemy stationed in their town. Stasey is the film’s first official casting, and probably it’s most important, since the movies will probably be told from her perspective, much like the books were.

Well Mr. Nivek, for once it seems you and I are in agreement.

Worlds may collide.:csad:

They could have also remade it for a Soviet invasion again and set in back in the 80s.

I really enjoyed the original Red Dawn, I think it's a lot of fun. But I don't think a remake would work. The "Soviet Threat" has been dead since the late 80s. An invasion of Chinese and North Korean forces is a little more believable than Chinese and Russian, as Russia is no longer a communist country. They could set the movie in the 80s of course, and stick more or less to the original script. But the "USA vs The Commies" thing just doesn't have the same appeal today as it did back then.

China and North Korea will never top the Red Giant only known as...The Soviet Union!

That would've been a better idea. It would probably still offend Russians though. I wonder how this movie is going to play over there.

I wonder if this going to be dedicated to Swayze...
