Red Dawn Remake

Who cares how ridiculous it is. What is with people today that things have to be believable or logical in order for it to be good. I don't blame them for changing it, China is a good market for money, North Korea eh not so much plus right now We are on decent terms with China, North Korea eh not so much.

Except that North Korea is a tiny, backwards country, which can barely manage its own existence.

China is a rising superpower, with more than a billion people.

Canada has a better shot of invading and occupying the States than North Korea. Hell, Saskatchewan has a better chance than North Korea. A North Korean invasion of Japan would be pushing believability.

The premise of North Korea invading America, would be great, if they were making a comedy.

North Korea , lol.

Ah well. It still looks decent.

Once again who cares about believablity. It's a fun what if scenario and looks really good

A lot of people.

The "what if" scenario only works if it's remotely plausible.

Like say Germany invading Great Britain in World War II.

While it would be great to see America invaded by something other than aliens it seems impossible to have an even plausible one done.

The filmmakers had something when China was the enemy
coming to collect on their debt in a weakened America.
but now with North Korea not sure how that works out.

Water scarcity is another way to do "invasion" film in a future United States but have it as a civil war as regions in North America fight to control drinking water and water resources. Now having a divided United States may not be appealing for a large movie audience.

That might make for a better video game where you pick which of the 5 regions to fight for, each offering different missions.

Well sort of, but being a history fan I find that rather implausible as well. Since by 1944, the Germans were on the brink. And even if D-Day had failed, they'd be up to their neck in Soviets, so they wouldn't have the means to invade Britain.

The latest a plausible British invasion could be, would be 1940. Maybe 1941.

Unless of course history started changing earlier, and the Germans had invested more in plans to invade Britain (perhaps foregoing their invasion of the Soviet Union or the Balkans).

I admit I have high standards when it comes to historical correctness.

What's next a movie where iceland invades the us?

Also the average north korean soldier is about 5'3" and greatly malnourished no joke. I wonder how these "super-soldiers" are going to be depicted in this film?

By comparison the average South Korean is 5'8".

Communism, stunting growth since 1917.

Movie looks decent. I know Jamie says that FilmDistrict is letting it out to die this Thanksgiving, but it may be effective counterprogramming against the final Twilight movie (it'll have a big second weekend drop like its predecessors) and maybe Skyfall.

But it's opening with four other movies on the same day. If the studio had any faith in the movie, they'd move it up to next month or October. In its November 21st spot, it'll get hammered.

Wow...that trailer just wow. :hehe:

MGM or whoever it is now has got to be happy it sat so long that Hemsworth and Hutchinson are now stars. The original was right wing jingoistic propaganda, but making it N. Korea only makes it even funnier. And it missing that 1980s earnestness from teen films makes it just seem off.

Esh. This movie looks awful. But I'm really curious about the original now.

I'd hold off until the fourth of july despite having seen and loved the movie (along with those I saw the movie with), because despite being corny at times manages to do so with the same 'today we declare this day, OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY!' impact.

Is it just me or does Hemsworth look like he's having trouble with the American accent here? He didn't seem to in Cabin in the Woods... was this made before that film?

Maybe Chris is due up for his Sam Worthington performance, lol.

This was made a few months after Cabin was done shooting in 2009.

The only way this would work is if North Korea is merely a puppet ally to China, like Cuba was to Russia in the first film. I swear I saw a Chinese flag in the trailer so hopefully they keep China involved in some way.

If it's JUST North Korea, then this whole thing is ridiculous. What, North Korea would skip South Korea and go halfway across the world (unnoticed!) to occupy a country that has about a hundred times the money, people, resources and land-mass that it has? This whole film is a giant facepalm.

Ugh American exceptionalism.... :o That movie was pretty bad after the White House explodin' first half.

North Korea can't even invade its neighbor to the South let alone invade America. Why would they want to invade the American mainland unless it was some extremely elaborate scheme to preserve it owns sovereignty?

It's like in that video game Homefront. N. Korea got the drop on us how exactly?

The problem is this film was originally shot with China invading and then they got cold feet and digitally replaced the flags and altered the dialogue to make it North Korea. I guess they're not worried about the actors cause "all asians look the same" mentality.

The odd thing is, a few actors playing the Chinese invaders are actually Korean...

As an action movie, it looks solid. I'm betting there'll be more sex in this one. I dunno, RED DAWN was always kind of a ridiculous, half-baked idea with some decent thematic and character exploration of an absurd concept. This looks like more of the same. Could be entertaining.
